Chapter 502: Chapter 502: About to Become a Spirit? _1

The evil cultivator, hearing the screams from within, furrowed his brows tightly, not knowing if Zhang Xian had the strength to deal with the powerful zombie inside.

With his two zombie bodyguards, he held a fair bit of confidence. Fleeing, if not fighting, should be no problem. If the two zombies got scared, his only protection was Zhang Xian.

He staked his fortune and life on Zhang Xian.

"Good lad." Zhang Xian did not know the evil cultivator’s thoughts, grinned, and swiftly walked inside.

The evil cultivator hesitated for a moment, yet continued to follow.

Lai Zi and the young man, fearing to stay outside, were forced to follow.

After crossing a passageway over two meters high and wide, there suddenly appeared a spacious, circular stone chamber. Hanging from the center of the cone-shaped dome were six Luminous Pearls the size of fists, arranged in a circle, emitting a faint white light which illuminated the stone chamber. Directly in front of the entrance was another passageway, from which flowed an intense wave of yin energy.

"Why is there nothing in here?" Zhang Xian frowned. "Has this tomb been looted?"

Lai Zi shook his head, "Not necessarily. In actual fact, the most important part of a tomb is the main burial chamber. The other areas might not necessarily contain anything. Their existence could merely be a show of grandeur or, as arranged by some grandmaster, laid out according to a certain celestial pattern, commonly known as a formation."

"Forget about the formation..." Zhang Xian said with a bitter smile.

The excavation for the construction of these empty stone rooms, he did not doubt. As for the formation, he did not detect the slightest spiritual power fluctuation in this ancient tomb.

Without spiritual power fluctuation, what formation? The main energy of a formation is spiritual energy from heaven and earth, which is a crucial condition of a formation.

"Should we go in or not?" The evil cultivator asked.

Zhang Xian looked towards the inside, saying: "The two groups have already joined together. Among them is an innate expert."

The evil cultivator was surprised: "There’s an innate expert? You mean, that big zombie inside can’t even handle an innate expert? How powerful it must have been when it was alive!"

"I don’t know much about zombies, but I have read about it in some ancient texts."

Zhang Xian stated: "You should know that after death, if a person becomes a zombie, their body will be tempered by yin energy to become incredibly resilient, impervious to blades. Now, if a person was an innate expert while alive, after their death and consistent tempering with yin energy, their body will become stronger by the day. Would an innate expert be able to break through its defences?"

"Innate expert..." The evil cultivator’s eyes shone, like a thirsty man looking at a nude woman.

Zhang Xian’s words were true. Even a regular person turning into a zombie after death would be horrifically powerful. If an innate expert turned into a zombie, their strength would increase exponentially, making them even more terrifying than an average zombie. Especially their startling defensive capabilities. They were innate experts in life, so their defence was not weak to begin with. After death, it would strengthen thoroughly.

If he caught that zombie and refined it, it would definitely exceed the innate realm. He too could become an expert comparable to that of the Grandmaster Realm in an instant.

However, remembering the strength of the zombie inside, he winced once again. Even an innate expert and a group of people working together couldn’t handle it, so how was he to subdue that large zombie? The more powerful the entity, the more difficult it was to control. Let alone the difficulties of refining, he didn’t even have the ability to take the large zombie back at the moment.

"Very powerful?" The young man and Lai Zi trembled.

The evil cultivator glanced at the two of them, didn’t explain anything, and didn’t know how to explain to these absolute outsiders.

"Really powerful!" Zhang Xian nodded, and ran into the stone chamber.

"Damn, we’re in for trouble." The evil cultivator slapped his forehead and followed Zhang Xian into the chamber.

The large zombie inside was his ultimate favor. Even though he knew that going in was flirting with death, yet he still rushed in without any hesitation. No venture, no gain, right?

"Let’s go...." The young man and Lai Zi gritted their teeth and quickly followed.

In the stone chamber, the fight had already stopped.

On a golden coffin, a middle-aged man in a golden robe, with loose hair, fair skin, and exceptionally red lips, stood stiffly without any expression.

Eight thick chains as thick as an infant’s arms sprouted from his head, hands, legs, and waist, each held by a burly man.

A relaxed old man with messy hair and multiple injuries stood in front of the golden-robed man.

"Hey..."

Suddenly, a young man rushed in, standing beside the golden-robed man with keen interest.

"It’s you?" The old man turned around, looking surprised.

Isn’t this guy the very same Zhang Xian they were intending to eliminating in Tiandu? How did he end up here? Moreover, grinning from ear to ear; so annoyingly smug.

Zhang Xian turned his head. "You know me?"

"Not really, but have seen you." The Third Elder thought quickly and shook his head in response.

Zhang Xian didn’t know the Third Elder. Seeing that the latter had only seen him before, Zhang Xian didn’t pay much attention and instead looked at the golden-robed man curiously. This guy was indeed an innate expert in his lifetime.

"Good stuff..." As the evil cultivator sensed the strong yin energy emanating from the golden-robed man, he couldn’t help but exclaim in admiration.

But taking down this thing wasn’t an easy task. One Innate expert plus eight post-natal others, yet they still couldn’t subdue this zombie.

"Roar..."

The zombie retreated unconsciously when it saw Zhang Xian.

"Eh?" Zhang Xian was a little curious, "This creature seems to fear me. What’s going on?"

The evil cultivator also noticed the zombie’s extraordinary behavior. He expressed his surprise, "Brother, this thing’s about to become sentient. It must not be allowed to stay. Either subdue it or destroy it."

"Sentient?" Zhang Xian turned his head to look at the evil cultivator, "You mean, it’s about to develop its consciousness and can think independently?"

The evil cultivator nodded, "Yes, once a zombie becomes sentient, it will be extremely terrifying. Initially, they only think independently, but once it reaches a certain level, they even acquire wisdom."

"Brother, shall we join hands and eliminate this thing?" The Third Elder turned his head to face Zhang Xian.

Zhang Xian stroked his chin, saying, "No, this zombie is meant to be captured by my brother and taken back for refining. If you kill it, won’t we lose a super-powerful warrior?"

"Can you capture this thing? Are you daydreaming?" The Third Elder expressed disdain.

Upon hearing this, the others looked at Zhang Xian with eyes full of contempt. Couldn’t they see that several of them had already died, even though they were nine against one?

"Brother..." The evil cultivator looked at Zhang Xian, "If you can, give it a try, but let’s not force it. It’s just a big zombie, not worth risking one’s life. I can’t afford that."

Zhang Xian turned to face the evil cultivator, and upon seeing a hint of sincerity in his reddish eyes, he cracked a grin. "Just for what you’ve just said, I am determined to catch this thing."

"Overestimating yourself..." The Third Elder was somewhat vexed.

In a battle between masters, capturing and killing are two completely different concepts. This naive bastard doesn’t fear anything!

"Third Elder, let’s destroy this thing together." A middle-aged man gritted his teeth and yanked the iron chain.

His eyes filled with rage, the Third Elder wished he could rush forward and give the man a sound smack.

Sure enough, the previously still zombie suddenly leaped towards the Third Elder, his arm swiped like a dragon’s tail creating a terrifying force.

There were no techniques, nothing fancy. Yet, this simple swipe sent chills down their spines and made their hairs stand on end.

"Damn..."

The Third Elder gathered the Innate True Qi into both hands and put them in front of his chest.

"Um...Boom..."

A massive force hit him. The Third Elder groaned as he was flung backward, crashing into a wall. He spat out blood from his mouth. Just one hit nearly knocked him unconscious.

"Hold him..." The eight people pulled on the chain together, trying to restrain the zombie.

The zombie let out a roar, and with one swing of his arm, two middle-aged men were sent flying into the wall.

Facing the powerful zombie, the strength of those in the post-natal stage was of little use. A casual swing of his arm or a step would always send one or two people tumbling at the other end of the chain.

"Hehe..." Zhang Xian gazed at the zombie.

Being stared at by Zhang Xian, the zombie once again retreated, looking wary. By now, it was no longer just a mindless lower life form that knew only slaughter; it had begun to show signs of independent thought. From Zhang Xian’s body, it felt an unsettling aura. A terrifying power that it dreaded was hidden within his frail body.

"This fellow’s sensing ability is too strong, no wonder it was generated from an Innate expert transformed into a zombie." Zhang Xian observed this, frowning.

Regardless of how strong he was, even if a grandmaster from the Grandmaster Realm came, they might not be able to sense him. However, this little zombie could sense the hidden power inside him.

"Brother, don’t you think it’s time to make a move?" The Third Elder bellowed.

As to why the zombie dreaded Zhang Xian, he had no idea, but previous investigated information had confirmed that this scoundrel killed the Second Elder and his skills were not bad at all.

Now there was an opportunity right before his eyes. He wanted Zhang Xian to go first, seize an opportunity to seriously injure Zhang Xian, and then capture the zombie.

Although the current Nangong family head was not from an evil cultivator lineage, it had always intended to branch out in that direction. For the evil cultivator, the zombie in front of them was a rare existence. If they were lucky enough to capture it alive, the Nangong family head’s strength would increase once again. In the near future, they might even be able to unlock the ancient gates of cultivation.

Zhang Xian turned around and said, "Why should I make a move?"

"Eh..." After being taken aback for a moment, the Third Elder glared at Zhang Xian and shouted in anger, "Brother, what do you mean by this? Are you trying to reap the benefits later? Although your idea is good, I have to remind you that relying solely on us might not be able to take down this zombie. You won’t be able to gain any advantage."

"That’s my problem." Zhang Xian didn’t particularly like this old geezer, certainly much less than the evil cultivator.

When they initially entered, the evil cultivator had the zombie both in front of and behind them to protect them. This guy kept crying for ’together,’ but didn’t even move a finger. If you don’t want to move, then shut it!
