Chapter 491: Chapter 491: Collecting a little interest_1

Noon, in the Cao Family’s mansion.

Cao Yongran, the Family Head of the Cao Family, held his cellphone, dialing a number over and over again, only to be met with a mechanical voice prompt on the other end.

After another attempt, he suddenly hurled his cellphone onto the ground, his rage boiling over.

Wasn’t the Skynet Assassin Organization always reliable? Why had he paid a deposit and now couldn’t get through on the phone? Was that damn bastard planning to run off with his money?

Initially, Skynet had solemnly promised to complete the mission swiftly. Later, they discovered that the target was too powerful and unabashedly demanded more money.

To kill Zhang Xian, he had chosen to acquiesce, money wasn’t an issue.

But now, after he wired the money, the other side had fucking disappeared. That abominable bastard was trying to scam him!

"Damn son of a..." Cao Yongran was teetering on the edge of losing all control, feeling irritated by everything.

He had already spent the money, even if it was only a deposit, but Zhang Xian was still alive and well. This was something he couldn’t accept. Each day Zhang Xian was alive was a day he couldn’t sleep peacefully.

"Bloody hell, I can’t count on those grandsons from Skynet any longer, I must think of another way. Zhang Xian dares to kill my son, he must die."

Cao Yongran paced around the living room, "Cao Zheng mentioned to me a few days ago that Cao Jianxin has a way to kill Zhang Xian. I don’t know if it’s reliable or not. But I can’t trust any promises anymore, I must be more prepared. I will kill Zhang Xian. Anyone who dares to kill my son, Cao Yongran, I’ll make sure they have no place to be buried."

"Uncle, what’s wrong?"

Suddenly, Cao Zheng came in, his face filled with confusion, "Why do you look so upset?"

"It’s nothing!" Cao Yongran took a deep breath, asked, "Zheng’er, last time you told me that Cao Jianxin could kill Zhang Xian, what’s the status now? Has anything been done?"

Cao Zheng laughed, "Certainly! That guy Zhang Xian is destined to die, he is actually in the same department with cousin. Now, cousin has planned to deal with him."

Cao Yongran’s eyes lit up, "Really? How certain is he?"

Cao Zheng said, "Looking at how cousin is brimming with confidence, he should be quite certain, right! Zhang Xian is not difficult to deal with."

"I’m not so sure about that." Cao Yongran sighed, "Apparently, that guy is a formidable foe, and the average person is no match for him. Otherwise, he wouldn’t still be alive and kicking today. Your cousin luckily learned some martial arts skills, let’s hope he can take down Zhang Xian!"

Cao Zheng said, "Uncle, you can count on it. That guy Zhang Xian does not have a fighting chance."

Cao Yongran nodded upon hearing this.

However, having been burned once by Skynet, there was no way he could put all his hopes on Cao Jianxin, he needed to think of another plan.

"Are you guys discussing how to kill me?"

Suddenly, an unexpected voice chimed in. An attractive young man, around twenty-something, had appeared in the living room.

"It’s you..."

Upon spotting the newcomer, Cao Zheng’s eyes widened, "How...how did you get in here?"

"Zhang Xian..."

Cao Yongran was equally taken aback. Although he hadn’t met Zhang Xian face-to-face, he’d seen his photos numerous times. In his study, there were several photos of him, filled with pinholes from needles.

"I came here to ask you for a little interest."

Zhang Xian smirked, "I’m the type of person who can’t stand being at a loss, whoever messes with me, I always think of getting back tenfold. Since your Cao Family hired someone to kill me, it wouldn’t seem right if I didn’t at least show up."

Stunned, Cao Yongran asked, "You...how did you know I hired people to kill you? Without evidence, don’t make such groundless accusations."

Zhang Xian laughed, "I have to say, you overestimate Skynet. Did you know that Skynet’s headquarters has already been destroyed by me days ago?"

"You..." Cao Yongran almost jumped up in shock.

No wonder he couldn’t get through on the phone, the bastard had been taken out!

"Now, prepare yourselves for my wrath," Zhang Xian said coldly, his mouth curled into a smile. Suddenly, he lunged at Cao Yongran.

Shortly after, a blood-curdling scream echoed throughout the mansion, a sound even more brutal than a pig being slaughtered. If anyone were nearby, the chilling screams would cause them to break out in a cold sweat.

"Damn..."

After a long while, Cao Yongran struggled to turn over, his gaze piercing at Zhang Xian, but he could hardly utter a word.

At this moment, he had been beaten to a pulp. Every bone in his body seemed to have been broken, regardless of if they were supposed to be breakable. The most aggravating part was that somehow, regardless of the excruciating pain, he couldn’t seem to lose consciousness and was forced to endure an inhuman torture.

"Shit..." Cao Zheng was also not faring any better.

Now, he had pretty much become a cripple. He couldn’t even say a few cursing words to Zhang Xian, let alone get up.

"Hmm, not too bad, I will take my leave now."

After clapping his hands with satisfaction, Zhang Xian confidently strutted out.

As he watched Zhang Xian leave, a solitary tear trickled down Cao Yongran’s cheek. The desire to kill Zhang Xian had been brewing for more than a day or two, and he had been making efforts accordingly. But in the end, he was beat up mercilessly by Zhang Xian. What he found even more unacceptable was the fact that he had no idea how Zhang Xian had managed to get in. Were the guards outside eating shit?

...

Longshan, Nangong Mansion.

The Nangong Family Head sat on the sofa, his brows furrowed, not uttering a word.

Standing opposite him were several middle-aged men, all with their heads bowed, silent as well.

The Second Elder and Nangong Luo had been in Yanjing for quite some time, but no word had come from Nangong Wu. He couldn’t figure out what had happened.

Keep in mind, their Second Elder was an Innate master. Although there were people stronger than Innate masters in Huaxia, they were definitely few and far between.

How could the Second Elder have disappeared without a trace?

"Family Head..." a middle-aged man spoke, "When we went to investigate initially, we found out that their small car had exploded and there were several bodies on it. Could it be the Second Elder and the others? Otherwise, why wouldn’t there be any news from the Second Elder? The same goes for Luo’er, we haven’t been able to contact them nor have they contacted us."

The Nangong Family Head frowned, "Do you think that a car accident could kill someone with the strength of the Second Elder?"

The middle-aged man said, "Could it be, they encountered a conflict with a more powerful individual?"

"That does make sense." The Nangong Family Head sighed and then uttered, "However, generally speaking, even those who are stronger than Innate would show some respect to the Nangong Family after finding out the identity of the Second Elder. Their disappearance puzzles me."

The middle-aged man suggested, "Should we invite the Grand Elder out then? If we really run into a strong opponent, we might not be able to handle it, the strength disparity is too great."

"Let’s investigate further first."

The Nangong Family Head responded, "Why would we call on the Grand Elder without even investigating thoroughly? Right now, he is at a crucial juncture of his breakthrough. We must not disturb him unless absolutely necessary."

"What?"

Someone asked in surprise, "Is the Grand Elder about to break into the Grandmaster Realm?"

The Nangong Family Head gave a cold smile, responding, "That’s right, our Grand Elder is about to break through into the Grandmaster Realm. Such a thing hasn’t occurred for hundreds of years! Once the Grand Elder breaks through, the other Four Families will be nothing. By then, we’ll be at the top of the Five Great Families of Huaxia and reaffirm our dominance."

...

The next morning, after having breakfast, Zhang Xian waited at the entrance of the community.

He had originally wanted to help Han Xiangyu persuade Old Man Han yesterday, but somehow he had gotten involved, so now he had to wait here to be Han Xiangyu’s bodyguard.

"Damn it, it’s like looking for trouble for no reason!" Zhang Xian lit a cigarette, leaning against the tree at the entrance, smoking in frustration.

Originally, he had been planning to help Nangong Wu deal with some trouble, but it seemed now that he would have to delay that plan. He wondered if the Nangong Family Head or Ximen Family would initiate any small actions recently.

"Squeak..."

Suddenly, a military jeep drove up from one direction and stopped in front of the community.

Han Xiangyu’s little head popped out from the backseat window, laughing, "Hey Zhang Xian, over here, why are you still standing there?"

"Eh, why is this girl so excited?"

Zhang Xian threw away his cigarette, climbed into the back of the jeep, and said to Han Xiangyu, "My dear, we’re going on a killing mission, not a sightseeing one. Your current mindset won’t do!"

Han Xiangyu laughingly responded, "Don’t worry, I’ve undergone training. I am well aware of many things."

"Big brother..." Xiaolong, the driver, turned his head and greeted with a smile, "Good morning!"

Zhang Xian nodded with a smile, "Good morning!"

In the passenger seat, Cao Jianxin nodded to Zhang Xian with a smile and turned back again without saying a word. He had lost face in a big way at the exchange meeting yesterday!

Right now, he was quite afraid to see Zhang Xian. But in order to eliminate him, he had to steel himself to come over and join the mission.

"What’s the mission this time?"

Zhang Xian looked at Han Xiangyu and asked, "It seems I still don’t know what I’m supposed to do."

Han Xiangyu said, "The mission this time is to destroy a terrorist group. Three months ago, the target committed crimes in various places, claiming nearly a hundred lives, half of which were from the public security department. We received information that the terrorist group had fled to the border. We are going there to eliminate them."

"The border?" Zhang Xian hesitated for a moment before asking, "Is it Sunset Town?"

Surprised, Han Xiangyu nodded and asked, "Eh? You know about Sunset Town? Not many people know about it. Don’t tell me you’ve been to Sunset Town."

Zhang Xian chuckled, "Well truth be told, I’ve been there and I have quite a few friends over there!"

"I heard that the place is quite chaotic," Han Xiangyu said. "However, it’s pretty prosperous and isn’t much different from our big cities, just that it’s a little smaller in size."

Zhang Xian nodded, starting to look forward to the trip.

It had been a while since he last saw Zhu Qing, and he had been thinking about making time to visit her. After all, she could be considered half his wife.

As it turned out, an opportunity had indeed come up. This trip might not be entirely for Skynet’s benefits. At least he could see his wife and check on the situation over there while he was at it.
