Chapter 47: Chapter 47 Something is Not Quite Right_1
Qian Duoduo, hands behind her back, bounced over to the BMW M6, and extended a friendly hand, "Sir, please present your driving license and vehicle registration."
"Hey, Qian Duoduo, is this really necessary?" Zhang Xian inquired as he furrowed his brows.
"Sir, I’m just doing my duty. I hope you’ll cooperate and not make my job more difficult," Qian Duoduo said, barely suppressing a chuckle.
Mo Shaoyun sat in the passenger seat, her demeanor as cold as the eternal snow atop a mountain.
Zhu Qing, Dong Qian, Mu Cheng, and now another stunning woman, even in uniform. How many beauties could Zhang Xian possibly attract? Could they all be this gorgeous?
"Um, Qian Duoduo, we’re friends, right? This isn’t really necessary," Zhang Xian said, smiling coyly.
"Sir, I repeat, please present your driver’s license and registration. If you can’t produce them, I’ll have no choice but to detain your vehicle," Qian’s expression went even colder.
Zhang Xian’s smile twitched involuntarily. As he was about to ask Mo where the registration was, he noticed her ice-cold expression. "So, Mo Shaoyun, what’s this all about? You’re seething. It’s just a driver’s license. Do I owe you a fortune or something? As a wife, you have to be emotionally prepared for things like this," Zhang Xian queried.
"I’ve already gotten into character," Mo Shaoyun shot Zhang Xian a fierce glare, drew out the vehicle registration, and handed it over to Qian Duoduo.
"Right, that’s the vehicle registration. And the driving license?" Qian Duoduo checked the paper, handed it to Zhang Xian, and asked, "Don’t you have it?"
Zhang Xian nodded and sighed in annoyance.
Even though he had done Qian Duoduo a favor, why did she persist on picking on him? What was even more frustrating was that he kept running into this traffic policewoman.
"Off you go!" Qian Duoduo flashed a smile, "This is a one-time thing."
"You are ruthless." As soon as Zhang Xian started the BMW M6, he sped off, afraid that Qian Duoduo might change her mind.
Perturbed by Qian Duoduo’s actions, he thought she showed no pride and took it to the extreme to avoid feeling indebted. He was utterly defeated.
"Zhang Xian, don’t you have a driver’s license? Why wouldn’t you say so earlier?" Xiao Nan, who was sitting in the backseat, asked.
"You never bothered to ask," Zhang Xian responded.
"Well, I assumed you had one. Doesn’t everyone have a license these days?"
"I should have one, but in reality, I don’t," he replied.
"What kind of logic is that? You drive without a license and see it as a privilege?" Mo Shaoyun snapped with a sigh.
"Hey honey, is this how you talk about your husband?" Zhang Xian blew a raspberry, "Moreover, why are you so mad? It’s just a minor issue. Have a heart, will you?"
"I’m not angry over such a petty issue. It’s just that..." Mo Shaoyun began, then suddenly stopped and turned to look out the window.
"What is it?" Zhang Xian asked, "Can you not leave your sentences halfway? I hate being left hanging."
"I knew you wouldn’t understand, making me worried about your emotional intelligence!" Xiao Nan snorted, "Shaoyun is not as petty as you are over some driver’s license. Shaoyun is concerned about your relationship with that policewoman. The more women around you, the more dangerous our relationship becomes."
"Believe me, there’s nothing going on between me and that traffic policewoman. You’re overthinking." Zhang Xian said, laughing awkwardly.
If Xiao Nan hadn’t mentioned it, he wouldn’t have guessed that Mo Shaoyun was mad because of Qian Duoduo. He thought Shaoyun wouldn’t bother about such "trivial issues".
"Each of your relationships with women is ’pure,’ except for ours."
"Hold on, what do you mean ’ours’ is not pure?" Zhang Xian asked in surprise, "Mo Shaoyun, just because we are engaged doesn’t mean you can tarnish my reputation. I’m very ’pure.’"
"You..." Mo Shaoyun lifted her fist to strike Zhang Xian but stopped midway.
Xiao Nan watched in contempt. Some guys really have no shame, having a relationship with a goddess like Mo is the kind of thing most guys would dream of.
But there he was, acting as if he couldn’t shun the situation quickly enough, as if he’s the best-looking man and doesn’t care about women.
...
Half an hour later, the BMW M6 pulled up in front of a restaurant.
As Mo Shaoyun emerged from the BMW, she took a few deep breaths to suppress her anger, then linked arms with Zhang Xian and warned, "Don’t blow our cover."
"No worries, my acting is top-notch," Zhang Xian responded, though he was a bit puzzled.
Their relationship was a pretense, so he felt that Mo Shaoyun was taking this acting to another level. Not only was she overacting, but he could clearly feel her soft breasts pressed against his arm.
Shouldn’t Mo Shaoyun be maintaining a reasonable distance from him under these circumstances? Why was she clinging so tightly?
"Let’s go! Our folks are having dinner inside." Xiao Nan smirked and took the lead into the restaurant.
After stepping forward, Zhang Xian asked: "Elder Sister Shaoyun, should we go over our story one more time? There seem to be a lot of questions from the journalists. I don’t want us to be unable to answer them."
"Call me Shaoyun, not Elder Sister." Mo Shaoyun shot Zhang Xian a glance and said: "We don’t need to go over anything. Is there anything unclear about our relationship? As long as you don’t reveal that our relationship right now is a sham, the other journalists know clearer than you. Seeing the two of us together, they won’t have much to ask; everything will happen naturally."
Zhang Xian nodded, not asking any more questions.
...
It was the peak time for dinner, and the restaurant was bustling.
By one of the tables sat two men and a woman, eating and chatting quietly.
When the woman looked up and saw a man and two women entering the restaurant, her face changed slightly. She nudged the middle-aged man beside her and asked, "Bro, is that Mo Shaoyun and Xiao Nan?"
The middle-aged man turned his head and jumped up abruptly, saying: "Damn, it is indeed! I didn’t expect to run into them here. I’ve found what I’ve been looking for without any effort!"
"What do we do? Should we confront them directly?" the other young man asked.
"What are you saying? There are so many people here. Aren’t we going to make fools of ourselves if we confront them?" The middle-aged man spoke: "I’ll go have a talk with them first."
"Well, I think I should be the one to go!" The woman stood up, "This is not suitable for you men to handle."
"Wait a minute..." The young man was puzzled, "Didn’t the rumors say that Mo Shaoyun and Zhang Xian were on bad terms and that Zhang Xian was cheating? Why are they now together and seemingly very loving?"
"Damn, what’s going on here?" The middle-aged man also felt something was off. How could Zhang Xian and Mo Shaoyun be hugging each other looking so affectionate?
"I’ll go over first and see if I can arrange an interview or something." The woman smiled and was about to head over.
No matter what the nature of Zhang Xian and Mo Shaoyun’s relationship was, they only needed the truth. As long as they broke the news before other journalists did, they’d be the winners.
"Sit down..." Suddenly, a middle-aged man pulled the woman back and sat down, coldly saying, "I don’t care which field of journalism you guys are from. You mustn’t leak the harmonious relationship between Zhang Xian and Mo Shaoyun. Just sit here and eat your meal honestly. If you want to expose anything, you can only talk about the scandals of Zhang Xian with other women."
"Who are you to boss us around?" The young man angrily asked.
"Haha, you’re not qualified to know who I am." The middle-aged man laughed heartily: "Even The First wouldn’t dare to release this news, do you dare? Do you think The First doesn’t know anything?"
"Journalists from The First were zeroing in on Zhang Xian and Mo Shaoyun?" The woman asked in surprise.
The middle-aged man smiled coldly without responding and stood up, "I’ve delivered the message, you figure it out yourselves. There are some people you can’t afford to offend."
His words echoed the air as he casually turned and left without a trace.
The middle-aged man and the young man looked at each other, faces full of wry smiles.
While they didn’t know the identity of the man who just left nor had they seen him before, Mo Shaoyun was of no ordinary status. Could anyone daring to confront Mo Shaoyun be just an ordinary clown?
They, as insignificant underlings, couldn’t afford to offend such people. Their initial excitement vanished in an instant.
...
Zhang Xian, Mo Shaoyun, and Xiao Nan had already sat down and were not being pestered by the press.
The journalists were eating oblivious to their surroundings and showed no intention of coming over. They were stationed in a quite conspicuous location, so it was unlikely that they hadn’t been spotted.
"What’s happening?" Xiao Nan asked with a slight frown.
"Why aren’t they coming over?" Mo Shaoyun was also perplexed, "Earlier, I noticed them glancing over here. They’ve clearly noticed us."
"Sigh, how unfortunate are you guys?" Zhang Xian took a sip of tea and grumbled: "When you want them to come, they don’t. When you don’t want them to come, they stick around. Speaking of Sister Nan, are you sure those guys are journalists, not here for traveling or visiting relatives or something? It’s not unusual to see cars from Yanjing in Tiandu, is it?"
"I’m certain." Xiao Nan insisted, "I only noticed they were following at first, but after some investigation, their identities have been confirmed."
"That’s strange, then why aren’t they coming over? Want me to go ask?" Zhang Xian turned to Mo Shaoyun.
"No need. They must have some kind of constraint, possibly threatened by someone." Mo Shaoyun frowned, "It seems the battlefield has shifted from Yanjing to Tiandu."
"If that’s the case, do we need to continue our charade?" Zhang Xian questioned.
Mo Shaoyun looked at Zhang Xian, hesitated a moment, and was about to speak.
Just then, several middle-aged men in suits rushed over and surrounded Zhang Xian’s table, each of them brimming with hostility, their eyes filled with venom.
"What are you trying to do?" Xiao Nan asked, taken aback.
The middle-aged man leading the group didn’t respond to Xiao Nan. Instead, he glared at Zhang Xian and said coldly, "Little Thief, you’ve got some nerve! Even daring to hit our young master, it seems you’re tired of living."
