Chapter 40: Chapter 40: This Guy is Big Time?_1
Zhang Xian stood at the door, his face expressionless and silent.
Now backed by the police, Tan Xiaofu was even more arrogant than before. He stepped forward, slapped Zhang Xian’s face and sneered, "Little thief, you’re still too green to fight against me."
"Don’t be smug..." Zhang Xian swatted away Tan Xiaofu’s hand, saying coldly.
"I fucking should be smug, what can you do about it?" Tan Xiaofu grabbed Zhang Xian’s collar, chuckled coldly and said, "I’m curious to see how high you can jump today."
"What can I do, you ask? This," Zhang Xian gripped Tan Xiaofu’s neck and lifted him off the ground with one hand. "In the eyes of others, you may be high and mighty. But in my eyes, you’re not even worth a damn. To put it kindly, you’re just a privileged second-generation official. To put it bluntly, you’re nothing more than a wastrel who relies on his father’s power to cause mayhem."
"You..." Tan Xiaofu’s face turned beet red, whether from holding his breath or from anger, it was hard to tell.
Wu Dalong, the captain of the criminal police squad who came with Tan Xiaofu, was furious. He stepped forward and grabbed Zhang Xian, asking, "Little thief, dare to lay a hand on him in my presence?"
"Why wouldn’t I dare?" Zhang Xian scoffed. "You’re supposed to be a people’s policeman. Even if you don’t serve the people, you shouldn’t aid and abet evil, act as accomplices to the wicked. Do you still deserve to wear that uniform? Besides, you’re just a lapdog who came following his master. You intend to take me back and give me a good beating anyway, even if I behave myself."
"You..." A few involuntary twitches appeared at the corner of Wu Dalong’s mouth. He turned to the other policemen and ordered, "What are you standing there for? Why aren’t you arresting him?"
The policemen moved forward to apprehend Zhang Xian.
At that moment, a piercing pain suddenly struck them. Their butts were on fire.
"Shit, my ass..."
"Ah... my butt’s on fire! Put it out for me!"
"Damn it, my ass is burning too! Who the hell lit it up again?"
In an instant, the policemen were in chaos, shouting in pain while trying to put out the fire. They were caught in a frenzy.
When Wu Dalong realized what was happening, he was baffled.
Everyone else was confused as well. The sudden rapid flare-up on those policemen’s butts was odd. It was too quick to be human-caused.
If it wasn’t human-caused, then...
No way, was this a daytime haunting?
Zhu Qing knew that this was Zhang Xian’s prank. She was somewhat expectant, hoping that this eerie magic would scare these policemen away.
Zhang Xian ignored the chaotic policemen. He retreated into the room, took out his phone, and dialed a number. "Who is this?" replied a steady, hoarse voice from the other end of the line.
"It’s me, Zhang Xian," he responded.
"Haha, it’s the Divine Doctor! Why did you decide to call me today?"
"Didn’t you say to call if I ran into trouble? I’m in trouble now, I just don’t know if you can solve it."
"What’s the trouble? Let’s hear it."
"I crossed paths with the police. They’re trying to arrest me now. I have a feeling both of you are pretty influential. That’s why I called."
"Tell me what happened first. I’ll give you the answer afterward," said the voice on the line after a moment’s hesitation.
"It’s actually a trivial matter," Zhang Xian said. "There’s a guy claiming to be Mayor Tan’s son. He was harassing my friend. I stepped in and taught him a lesson. Now, he’s brought the police. If you can help, just get this sorted out. I don’t want to cause too much of a stir. Consider it payback for last time. If you can’t, that’s okay. I have ways to handle them."
"Tan Yaowei?" There seemed to be astonishment from the other end of the line.
Soon, however, the voice continued, "where are you, Divine Doctor?"
"I’m at Jinwan KTV."
"Alright, hold on. I’ll send people to help you immediately. It will take at most half an hour."
"Okay, I’ll stall them," Zhang Xian laughed, hung up, and walked back to the door.
The fire on the policemen’s rear ends had been extinguished. They all had varying degrees of burns. One unfortunate fellow’s butt was completely charred black.
"What happened? How did you mess this up?" Wu Dalong raged.
"Captain, I... I don’t know."
"Yeah! We were about to make the arrest when our butts suddenly caught fire. It still hurts!"
"Captain, can we go to the hospital first? It’s quite serious!"
All of them were clueless about how their butts had caught fire suddenly without any sign, quietly and unobtrusively, seemingly of their own accord.
Watching their pitiful state, Wu Dalong knew staying here would be of no use, so he simply waved his hand to dismiss them. Afterward, he took out his phone and called several police officers over.
These officers were nearby, hence they arrived quickly, within just a few minutes.
Upon seeing several more officers arrive, Tan Xiaofu immediately regained his confidence, angrily instructing, "Damn it, cuff that bastard."
"Hold on," Zhang Xian advised, "I suggest you reconsider touching me. Regret is a bitter pill to swallow."
"Ha, who do you think you are, to compare yourself to me?" Tan Xiaofu sneered and laughed disdainfully before addressing the officers, "What are you waiting for? Hurry up and cuff him!"
Without any hesitation, the officers stepped forward, placing a pair of handcuffs on Zhang Xian’s wrist.
Zhang Xian didn’t resist and allowed the officers to lead him away.
While Zhu Qing and Gao Ya, among others, were not arrested, they were concerned and started to follow them outside. They were participants in this incident, and they wouldn’t be at ease until they learned the outcome.
"What is happening here? What’s going on?"
At the entrance, a middle-aged man in a suit climbed out of a police car just in time to come across Wu Dalong and company leaving Jinwan KTV.
"Director Zheng, what are you doing here?" Seeing the newcomer, Wu Dalong quickly walked over to him, smiling.
The newcomer was Zheng Youhua, the director of Tiandu City Public Safety Bureau, who was his boss’s boss, so he had no choice but to be respectful.
"Can’t I be here?" After glancing at Zhang Xian, Zheng Youhua asked Wu Dalong, "Aren’t you from the Xiaoxiang Branch? I heard someone was abusing power here, is that true?"
"Uh, Director Zheng, there’s no such thing," Wu Dalong said, smiling, "And besides, such a small issue wouldn’t require your intervention. We can handle it ourselves."
"I don’t think you can handle this," Zheng Youhua replied with a cold laugh. "I heard that our Tiandu’s mayor’s son is the main perpetrator. I had no choice but to come personally! You were all here earlier, tell me exactly what happened. As people’s policemen, we must serve the people. We cannot fail the uniform we wear."
"This... Director Zheng..." Wu Dalong was quite startled.
He originally thought that Zheng Youhua was just passing by and had dropped in to ask about things. He did not anticipate that he came specifically because of this incident, and had already known that Tan Yaowei was the main perpetrator.
It was only a minor squabble, not a big deal. It has, however, turned serious with the appearance of Xiaoxiang Branch, as this incident was starting to resemble an abuse of power for personal gain.
"Director Zheng, what do you mean by that?" Tan Yaowei asked as he moved forward.
"Yaowei, you’re here too!" Zheng Youhua responded with feigned surprise, "Someone was abusing power and intimidating others just now. Did you see it?"
"I..." Tan Yaowei’s lips twitched unnaturally a few times before he clenched his teeth and said, "Director Zheng, I advise you to back off."
"What are you talking about?" Zheng Youhua’s brow furrowed, "I am a people’s policeman, and I also head the Tiandu City Public Safety Bureau. How can I condone such activity? Are you implying that you’re involved in this? This puts me in a difficult position. Why don’t you inform your father first, and let him handle it? I believe he will definitely adhere to due process and remain unbiased."
"You..." Tan Yaowei was at a loss for words.
"Director Zheng, you’re just in time. Tan Yaowei, relying on the fact his father is the mayor, has been bullying my friend recklessly," Gao Ya stepped forward to say.
"Yes, he was so arrogant. My friend was simply trying to take up my cause, but they arrested him," Zhu Qing added as he approached.
Although the others did not speak, everyone nodded in agreement, serving as evidence.
"Uh-huh..." Zheng Youhua’s expression turned icy as he turned to Tan Yaowei, "Yaowei, did you really do this?"
"So what if I did?" Tan Yaowei looked at Zheng Youhua contemptuously, "Director Zheng, don’t blame me for not reminding you; you’d best not dip your toes in these muddy waters."
"Hmph, as a people’s policeman, do you think I would back down?" Zheng Youhua declared emphatically, "Even if your father wants to harm me, today, I will still do what is right."
Zhu Qing and others finally breathed a sigh of relief as they saw Zheng Youhua stand up against the powerful. For now, Zhang Xian should be safe.
Zhang Xian stood off to the side, quietly chuckling without saying a word.
Earlier, he had called Qian Bo to give it a shot, but he didn’t expect the old man to be so influential, prompting the city’s police chief to personally handle the matter.
"What, you’re not leaving yet?" Zheng Youhua smugly asked, staring at Tan Yaowei.
"Sure, let’s see what you can do," Tan Yaowei’s lips twitched unnaturally a few times before he turned and left.
Today’s events were quite unexpected. His nerves numbed by the alcohol, Tan was in a somewhat confused state. He believed that declaring his father’s status would scare off these low-level officers, but was taken aback when things did not go as expected. Now that the situation had escalated to this point, he knew he would be worse off if he didn’t end this quickly, given he was the son of a city official.
Without any power to lean on, he didn’t believe that a mere city police chief would dare defy him, the mayor’s son. There was definitely something fishy going on!
"Divine Doctor, are you okay?" Zheng Youhua approached Zhang Xian and asked with a smile.
The bystanders’ eyes widened in surprise at this scene. What’s going on? Director Zheng didn’t casually drop in, he had come specifically for Zhang Xian? Did this guy also have some significant backing?
After all, Director Zheng is just a city police chief. Without any significant background, would he dare to offend the mayor for Zhang Xian?
