Lin Ruoyi sat on the couch, her head bowed, and her face chilled.

Across from her, Lin Zhengyang’s face was equally unsettling, dark as a pot’s bottom. But he was more helpless than anything else; he would not have wanted it this way if there was another option.

Qin Shuya remained silent, sighing incessantly. How could she force her daughter into something if they didn’t have a disaster looming at home?

After a while, Lin Zhengyang finally asked, "Ruoyi, I heard you’ve been around a young man recently, is that the case?"

"Who told you?" Lin Ruoyi asked.

Lin Zhengyang replied, "It doesn’t matter who told me, just answer my question."

"This is my business." Lin Ruoyi turned away, looking irritated. At the same time, she cursed Ji Yongzhe in her heart.

Though Lin Zhengyang didn’t say, she knew it must have been Ji Yongzhe who revealed it. Two days ago when she went to Camel’s Peak, Ji Yongzhe was there; he probably suspected that something was going on between her and Zhang Xian.

"Hmph!" Lin Zhengyang snorted coldly, saying, "You are now Ji Yongzhe’s fiancée, if you are involved with another man, doing something disgraceful to the Lin family, I won’t let you off."

Lin Ruoyi retorted, "Dad, are you mistaken? Since when am I Ji Yongzhe’s fiancée? I am part of Lin family, I need to make it clear that although I belong to the Lin family, I am not born for the Lin family. I have my own life, don’t you think it’s unfair to make me give up my life for the Lin family?"

"You..." Lin Zhengyang was irritated, but he had no rebuttal.

Qin Shuya sighed deeply, saying, "Zhengyang, Ruoyi, can you two not have a proper talk?"

It made no sense. Out of nowhere her parents were pushing her into a marriage with Ji Yongzhe, which was vastly different from how they had treated her in the past. She suspected there was more to the story than they were letting on.

Sighing, Qin Shuya responded, "Nothing much, just that the company has run into some problems lately and we need a lot of capital. Your dad had no choice but to resort to this."

Lin Ruoyi exclaimed, shocked, "Because of financial problems, you want to marry me off to Ji Yongzhe?"

Qin Shuya nodded, unable to meet her daughter’s eyes.

Lin Zhengyang also turned away.

As a father, he knew he had failed irrevocably. He was essentially selling off his own daughter!

"I won’t agree." Without giving it a second thought, Lin Ruoyi stood up and made to leave.

Lin Zhengyang swiftly got up and barked, "Where do you think you’re going?"

Stopping in her tracks, Lin Ruoyi responded, "You’re willing to sacrifice my happiness for the company, I will not agree to that, nor will I ever marry Ji Yongzhe."

"Whether you agree or not, you have to get married." Lin Zhengyang said, "Moreover, you don’t have to go to school these days, stay at home."

Turning, Lin Ruoyi stared at her father and asked angrily, "Dad, what are you implying? Are you planning on confining me?"

Duan Hong sat on the bed, idly watching television. Lately, someone had been watching her, so she didn’t dare go out. The only entertainment she had was watching the television to pass the time.

"Knock, knock, knock..."

Suddenly, there was a knock at the door.

Thinking it was Zhang Xian, Duan Hong quickly went to the door and opened it.

It wasn’t Zhang Xian standing outside, but a group of middle-aged men.

Upon seeing Duan Hong, they pushed open the door and entered the room in single file.

Duan Hong recognized a few of these men, two of them were Tao Jinbao’s bodyguards. She was so frightened that she stepped away, asking, "What do you want?"

"Miss Duan, our boss wants to see you, please come with us." One of the middle-aged men blockaded the door, speaking coldly.

Backing up to the edge of the bed, Duan Hong frowned and asked, "Did Tao Jinbao send you?"

The middle-aged man nodded, "Yes, he wants you to return."

"Return? Return to where?" Duan Hong sneered coldly, "Go back and tell Tao Jinbao, I have nothing to do with him anymore."

The middle-aged man shook his head, saying, "You have to come back with us."

"Why?" Duan Hong looked at the bodyguard and asked, "Are you planning to use force on me? Who gave you such guts?"

"Quit your damn talking, do you still think you’re the boss lady from before?" The middle-aged man grabbed Duan Hong and started dragging her out. He didn’t dare to waste too much time, fearing that Zhang Xian would suddenly show up.

Tao Jinbao had been beaten several times by them already. They knew that Zhang Xian was formidable. If he showed up, not only would they not be able to take Duan Hong, it would be questionable whether they could even leave safely themselves.

"Sheesh, what a damn woman who needs a good beating." The middle-aged man saw Duan Hong become docile after the slap, and he couldn’t help but laugh with a face of disdain.

Because Tao Jinbao often messed around outside, his relationship with Duan Hong wasn’t good, and they often received arrogance from Duan Hong, never receiving a kind face.

Due to Duan Hong’s former status, they didn’t dare to show off. Now that Duan Hong had been abandoned, did they need to be courteous? Before they came here, Tao Jinbao had instructed them—they could use force.
