Chapter 201: Snatching the Red Heart Fruit_1

Chapter 201: Chapter 201: Snatching the Red Heart Fruit_1

Atop the Camel’s Peak, in front of a certain cliff.

A dark figure rushed over and stopped in front of a small cave on the cliff.

"Wasn’t there no cave here before? How did this opening suddenly appear?" The dark figure muttered while standing at the cave entrance.

After hesitating for a while, the dark figure suddenly crouched down and crawled into the cave.

"Let’s go, follow him."

Not far away, an old man with white hair waved his hand, slowly approached the cave entrance, and after waiting for a little while, he also crouched down and crawled in.

Following closely behind them were a man and a woman.

Perhaps for fear of being discovered, the three of them maintained a certain distance from the shadow, neither daring to get too close nor to fall too far behind, as they slowly advanced deeper into the cave.

...

The cave was eerily dim, only illuminated by the flashlights of numerous cell phones.

Zhang Xian stood by the pool, trying to see his surroundings clearly. However, despite the brightness of the flashlight, its range was limited and he could hardly see beyond the illuminated area.

"There weren’t any spirit herbs or medicines when we searched the mountain top – could they be in this cave?"

Hesitating for a moment, Zhang Xian released his spiritual consciousness, casting it over everything in its range. Not finding anything, he slowly moved forward, continuing his search.

Zhu Yan and Lin Ruoyi always stayed close to Zhang Xian, not daring to stray away.

Even Du Xinyan, who was at odds with Zhang Xian, was also keeping close behind him.

This place was pitch black, the visibility was very low, and Zhang Xian was the only one who could provide a sense of security due to his superior martial arts skills.

"Damn, is that a Red Heart Fruit?"

All of a sudden, a half-meter-tall peculiar plant appeared within the range of Zhang Xian’s spiritual consciousness.

The plant’s stem was as black as ink, curved irregularly, and the leaves shone with a dazzling purple hue. Between the stems and leaves, there were thumb-sized, blood-red fruits.

"How come he hasn’t surfaced yet?"

Wang Lei’s gaze was fixed on the pool. He had almost reached the middle of the pool, but the unknown creature had yet to show itself.

Ji Yongzhe also furrowed his eyebrows, keeping a hawk-eyed watch on the pool.

Though he didn’t want to approach the pool, and believed that the creature should show itself in due course, they had reached the midpoint of the pool. If the creature suddenly emerged, it would not be conducive to him making a quick escape.

A cold glint flashed in his eyes as he slowly positioned himself beside Xia Xiaohua, waiting for the right opportunity.

"Eh? Is there something here? Why are there three less Red Heart Fruits?" Zhang Xian’s spiritual consciousness was focused on the Red Heart Fruit tree.

After careful observance, he was certain that the plant growing on the opposite cliff was indeed a Red Heart Fruit tree. However, he noticed that three fruits were missing, likely plucked by something or someone.

"First, let’s pluck the Red Heart Fruits."

Zhang Xian hesitated for a second, then prepared to jump over and pick the Red Heart Fruits.

Compared to the Black Mandala, which only yielded a powder that had no amplifying effects on cultivation efforts, the Red Heart Fruit was considerably more precious. This fruit could be used to enhance one’s prowess.

"Ah..."

Suddenly, a scream echoed as Xia Xiaohua lost her footing and fell into the pool.

"Ah... Xiaohua..." Zhu Yan was holding her cell phone and upon seeing Xia Xiaohua fall into the pool, she anxiously yelled, "Zhang Xian, quickly go rescue Xiaohua, she fell into the pool!"

Lin Ruoyi, Du Xinyan, and the other students were also quite frightened. However, the darkness inside the cave deterred everyone from attempting a rescue.

"Damn..."

Zhang Xian, who was about to pick the Red Heart Fruits, immediately noticed Xia Xiaohua fallen into the pool, and without any hesitation, he jumped in and grabbed her.

Ji Yongzhe stood on the shore, laughing coldly in his heart.

Xia Xiaohua had been pushed into the water by him, intending to lure the terrifying creature out and get Zhang Xian killed.

Wang Lei, unaware of Ji Yongzhe’s trickery and since it was too dark for anyone else to see clearly, noticed Zhang Xian and Xia Xiaohua jumping into the water together. He knew a horrifying creature was at the bottom of the pool and had readied himself to run at the first sign of something amiss.

"Ah..."

Xia Xiaohua struggled, but when she realized someone was holding her, she instinctively clung onto Zhang Xian like an octopus with its tentacles.

Zhang Xian said in annoyance, "Xiaohua, can you please let go of me?"

Xia Xiaohua was stunned for a moment and then let go of her grip.

Regaining his freedom, Zhang Xian quickly swam to shore, trying to push Xia Xiaohua onto land.

Just at that moment, an enormous creature suddenly burst out of the pool.

"Damn it..."

Zhang Xian was already aware that there was something in the cave, but he wasn’t surprised. Instead, he hurled Xia Xiaohua ashore quickly and yelled, "Retreat, all of you retreat."

The crowd was still in stunned silence, their eyes glued to a rapidly growing black shadow in the pool.

Wang Lei and Ji Yongzhe had already snapped back to reality and they immediately turned around and started running without hesitation.

The thing indeed emerged from the water.

And currently, Zhang Xian was still in the pool. If this creature attacked him in the water, they didn’t believe that Zhang Xian would survive and be able to escape the cave.

"Damn it..."

Zhang Xian instantly kicked off, rushing rightwards for about three to four meters.

"Splash..."

Right at that moment, an enormous creature suddenly burst out from the water. Its gaping mouth snapped shut, but it missed its target.

"Ah... " A scream rang out.

The students recovered their senses and ran away, their faces as white as a sheet.

Zhu Yan, Lin Ruoyi, Du Xinyan, Luo Xiaoxiao, and Xia Xiaohua, the five girls, didn’t flee. They moved a few meters back and used their phones to illuminate the pond, intending to provide light for Zhang Xian.

"What the hell is this thing?" Zhang Xian spread his divine senses, somewhat surprised.

In the pond, there was a gigantic creature, nearly five meters in length. It somewhat resembled a crocodile, but not entirely. A crocodile-like body, claws like eagle claws...

The monster stared fixedly at Zhang Xian in the pond, its blood-red eyes unblinking, and mists kept spraying out of its nostrils.

Zhang Xian was also staring at the monster, somewhat worried.

This fellow seemed more formidable than the giant venomous snake he had previously encountered. If Xiao Huo were here, he wouldn’t be afraid. But without Xiao Huo, he wasn’t sure he could handle this fellow alone.

After running a distance, Wang Lei and Ji Yongzhe stopped upon seeing no movement from behind.

Due to the darkness, the form of the creature was somewhat blurred, so they couldn’t see it clearly. However, as there was no fight at that moment, they felt relieved and hoped to witness Zhang Xian being devoured by the monster.

"Roar..."

Suddenly, the monster let out a low groan, its huge body lunged at Zhang Xian.

Right at that moment, a black shadow abruptly shot out from the darkness, incredibly fast, and stepped on the monster’s head.

Under the impact, the monster had no strength to retaliate and was kicked back into the pond.

"It’s that old guy again..." Zhang Xian frowned.

The old man in front of him was none other than the black-robed old man who had helped him before. Though he had some good feelings for this old man, his sudden appearance now made him a competitor.

He knew that this old man and that Old Man Jiao were both after the Heart Fruit. And he too was hoping to get the Heart Fruit.

"I didn’t expect there to be a monster here."

Three shadows shot in, it was Jiao Long, San Shui, and Hun Aomei.

Seeing the gigantic figure in the pond, they were somewhat surprised, but not amazed. Clearly, they were aware of the existence of things like monsters, though such beasts were sparse in the present age.

"Both of these old guys know about monsters?" Zhang Xian was somewhat perplexed.

He only knew about the existence of monsters thanks to the information from his inheritance. The fact that these two old guys knew meant that such magical creatures still existed today.

The giant python from Stone Village and this monstrous creature from Camel’s Peak were solid proof that, while there might not be many monsters in this world, they certainly existed.

"Awesome..."

The students were in shock, shocked by the strength of Qiu Yun.

One kick was enough to knock out a huge monster. How strong did he need to be?

"Damn it..."

Wang Lei and Ji Yongzhe were annoyed.

They realized the two old men who came after them seemed unafraid of the monster in the pond. That implied they had the ability to deal with it, and their plan might go awry.

"Old Man Jiao, what are you doing here?" Qiu Yun chuckled.

"Why can’t I be here? Your question is a bit strange!" Jiao Long responded with a sardonic smile.

In reality, he hadn’t intentionally come to search in the mountains; he had been following Qiu Yun. He knew that if there were any treasures to be found, Qiu Yun would surely find them.

And that’s how he ended up here, following Qiu Yun.

"Hehe..." Qiu Yun gave an eerie chuckle, turned to Zhang Xian and said, "Kid, you’re doing well to keep calm in this situation. You have potential for martial arts."

Upon hearing this, Zhang Xian couldn’t help but smile bitterly.

His own identity and abilities were far from simple. Although Qiu Yun and Jiao Long were powerful, he was no pushover either. If they were to really fight, the outcome would be uncertain.

Moreover, he had seen true experts. These two old guys at best could only be considered Innate masters.

His own master was already beyond the Innate level and had entered a higher realm for many decades, making him many times stronger than these two old guys.

At present, he felt capable of battling either of these two old men, but in front of his master, he was utterly devoid of any thought of combat. If they were to fight, his master could easily send him flying with a backhand.

"There really is a treasure..."

Jiao Long suddenly looked in a certain direction, his eyes flashing with excitement.

Others might not be able to see clearly, but his eyesight was extraordinary, and he could see a fuzzy silhouette even in the dark.

On the wall of the pond on the other side, he spotted a Spirit Fruit, its red color striking even under the dim light.

"Hehe..." Qiu Yun had also noticed the Heart Fruit.

However, neither of them had Zhang Xian’s unusual ability to ’see’ clearly in the dark, which was even clearer than what they could see with the naked eye.

"Humph..." Jiao Long snorted coldly, and shot out, aiming straight for the Heart Fruit.

The monster wasn’t stupid. While it might not be as intelligent as a human being, it was far smarter than ordinary beasts. At once, it opened its mouth and lunged out when it saw Jiao Long’s intentions.

The Heart Fruit belonged to it – one a day. How dare a human steal its food?

San Shui and Hun Aomei also moved. Their target too was the Heart Fruit.

"What are you trying to do?" Qiu Yun chuckled and stepped in front of San Shui and Hun Aomei.

Zhang Xian did not budge, but stood quietly on the side and watched. He knew Jiao Long and Qiu Yun didn’t regard him as a threat. As such, he could catch them off guard and snatch the Heart Fruit.

If he showed his full strength too early, Jiao Long and Qiu Yun would certainly guard against him and view him as an enemy, which would not be advantageous in the final scramble for the Heart Fruit.
