Chapter 154: Chapter 154 Love is in the Heroic Rescue_1
The youths accompanying Fong Chao were the same ones at the restaurant yesterday.
Having now seen Zhang Xian, they were all quite frightened. After all, the guy they were facing was one who could pierce marble with chopsticks!
"Are you going to leave on your own, or should I kick you out?"
After swigging a bit of alcohol, Zhang Xian, who held a chicken leg in his hand, chewed on it while chuckling, "It seems, your hand hasn’t healed yet."
Fong Chao glanced at his bandaged palm in frustration. However, acknowledging Zhang Xian’s prowess, he dares not boast. Whether to leave or stay put, it was all incredibly embarrassing.
Gao Longfei laughed lightly and asked, "Brother-in-law, where did these kids come from? They have quite some swagger!"
Shen Nanshan sneered, "Swagger, my ass. These brats wouldn’t stand a chance even if I took them on single-handedly."
Upon hearing this, Fong Chao was as dark-faced as could be. As a minor leader in this area, he might not have been utterly invincible but he carried some prestige. When had he ever been treated like this?
Damnit, what a bunch of assholes. If he weren’t cautious of Zhang Xian’s abilities, he would’ve beaten these three fools to a pulp. They dared to belittle him.
Zhang Xian glanced at Fong Chao, sneering, "So, you don’t feel like leaving?"
Fong Chao’s mouth twitched a few times, he waved his hand hesitantly and took his men away. With Zhang Xian around, there was no way they would come out on top.
Seeing Fong Chao and his men leave, Yu Wenhui could finally breathe easy.
However, after looking at Zhang Xian’s group, she felt a bit uneasy. It seemed these guys weren’t upstanding individuals either.
And her daughter seemed to know them.
Zhang Xian, unaware that Yu Wenhui had classified him as a delinquent, was merrily eating away.
Gao Longfei, Shen Nanshan, and Xu Lei, seeing the other group leave and having not started a fight, appeared disappointed. Chatting casually over beer and barbeque.
"Ah..."
Suddenly, a shriek rang out.
When Zhang Xian turned his head in curiosity, he saw a woman collapsing to the ground, holding her chest as if she couldn’t get any air.
"What’s happening?"
"Oh no, it looks like she’s having an asthma attack!"
Onlookers made way, forming a circle around her, but no one offered to help.
Seeing this, Du Xinyan immediately put her work aside, ran into the crowd to help the woman up, and asked, "Can anyone please help call an ambulance for this lady?"
"This girl..."
Zhang Xian swiftly walked through the crowd, squatted down, and told Du Xinyan, "Let me take a look."
Du Xinyan narrowed her eyes at Zhang Xian, "What do you think you’re doing?"
Zhang Xian replied, "Of course, I’m going to help her. What else do you think?"
"Are you a doctor?"
"No."
"Then what can you do?" Du Xinyan gave Zhang Xian a cold glare, not letting go of the woman.
In her eyes, Zhang Xian was just trying to play hero, which would be utterly useless and might even endanger the woman.
Zhang Xian said, "Who says only doctors can treat people?"
Du Xinyan didn’t believe him, "Anyway, I’m not letting you do it. It’s none of your business. If you really want to help, call central hospital’s emergency number on your phone."
Zhang Xian saw that Du Xinyan wasn’t letting go, let out a bitter smile and without bothering further, he reached out to cure the woman.
Du Xinyan was about to call for help herself when she saw Zhang Xian reaching out. She immediately grabbed his arm, "What... What are you doing?"
"Obviously, treating her." After shaking off Du Xinyan’s grip, Zhang Xian caught the woman’s wrist, channelling Spiritual Energy into her.
After that, he quickly poked a few random points on her body to cover up his miraculous method.
"Cough... Cough..." The woman coughed once, her originally flushed face quickly regained its normal color, and her rapid breathing steadied.
Feeling her breath returning to a normal pace, she quickly recovered and thanked Zhang Xian profusely. "Young man, thank you so much! Without your help, I might have died right here."
Du Xinyan looked at Zhang Xian, then at the woman, somewhat surprised.
The onlookers also turned surprised glances towards Zhang Xian. How had this kid casually poked at the woman and cured her asthma?
"That guy seems pretty good!"
Yu Wenhui had initially intended to step in to help. Seeing the woman suddenly recover, she was somewhat surprised.
Before, she had assumed Zhang Xian was just another punk, but it seemed she was mistaken. Not to mention a punk wouldn’t demonstrate the kind of goodwill Zhang Xian did, the skills he displayed weren’t something a punk would possess.
"It was nothing more than a helping hand." Zhang Xian waved dismissively and returned to his seat, continuing to eat heartily.
The woman walked over to the table and kept thanking him profusely before finally leaving.
Du Xinyan was somewhat curious and wanted to ask Zhang Xian a few questions. However, due to pride, she felt too embarrassed and only stole glances at him from the side.
To her surprise, although the guy was annoying, he was incredibly good-looking. His handsome face even outshone some of the actors on television.
"Young man, I never knew you had medical skills!" Yu Wenhui approached the table and asked with a smile, "Since you know my Xinyan, you must also be a student at Tsinghua University, right?"
Zhang Xian nodded with a smile, "Yes, I’m studying at Tsinghua University as well."
"Studying Medicine?" Yu Wenhui laughed, "What you did awhile ago was quite magical! You miraculously cured that lady’s asthma just by touching her."
Zhang Xian said, "Well, aunty, I’m not a medical student per se. I just happen to know a few tricks. Honestly, it was pure luck it worked out like that."
Yu Wenhui nodded, her impressions of Zhang Xian becoming better.
At Zhang Xian’s age, many people like to show off their skills at every opportunity, but it was rare to see someone as humble as him.
With a slight smile, she said, "Young man, I just realized that I don’t even know your name."
"Uh..." Zhang Xian said, "My name is Zhang Xian, Xian as in ’evident’."
"Nice name." Yu Wenhui added politely, "Since you and our Xinyan attend the same university, I hope you won’t mind looking after her if any troubles arise."
Zhang Xian was momentarily startled before he responded, "Aunty, don’t worry. If Student Du ever has any trouble, I won’t just stand by and do nothing."
Upon hearing this, Du Xinyan’s face changed dramatically. She ran over and asked, "Mom, what are you talking about? Who needs this guy to look after anyone? I’d be grateful if he didn’t cause me any trouble."
"Oh, shut up!" Yu Wenhui rolled her eyes at Du Xinyan.
Yu Wenhui had witnessed Zhang Xian’s confrontation with Fong Chao earlier, and knew that Fong Chao had been a constant nuisance to Du Xinyan. If Zhang Xian could step in and help, it might resolve the whole issue.
Du Xinyan retorted, "I don’t need his help, and this has nothing to do with him. I can handle my own affairs."
Yu Wenhui asked, "And how exactly are you going to handle it?"
"I..." Du Xinyan faltered for a moment before insisting, "I’ll find a way."
"Don’t be stubborn when you clearly can’t handle it. What if something happens? Do you taste the bitterness of regret then?" Yu Wenhui gave Du Xinyan a stern glance, before turning back to Zhang Xian with a smile, "Zhang Xian, Xinyan has always been like this, putting on a tough front and suffering in silence. Even as a child, she’s always forced her way through everything and never listens. As for that guy you saw earlier, if it’s not too much to ask, could you look out for her when you’re at the university?"
Zhang Xian glanced at Du Xinyan, chuckled and said, "Aunty, don’t you worry, I’ve got it covered. That guy won’t dare to create any trouble."
Seeing Zhang Xian intentionally annoying her, Du Xinyan’s teeth were gnashing in frustration. What infuriated her even more was the fact that despite knowing Zhang Xian was deliberately annoying her, there was no appropriate way for her to retaliate.
...
The late-night snack was over in no time.
Zhang Xian was pretty moderate on the drinking, except when he wanted to get drunk.
However, Gao Longfei, Xu Lei, and Shen Nanshan couldn’t handle their alcohol well. After a few bottles of beer, they weren’t drunk, but they were noticeably wobbly.
Walking side by side, all four friends headed down the relatively quiet streets, enjoying the cool night breeze. Compared to Tiandu, Yantai was significantly cooler.
"Let me go..."
As they entered an alleyway, the four of them heard a woman’s distressed voice.
Without a second thought, they headed toward the source of the noise, their heroic instincts ignited in the dead of night.
"Fuck, if you dare to yell again, I’ll stab you," a middle-aged man with a knife held against a beautiful woman’s stomach snarled, "Brother Shan wants to see you. Just come with us."
The woman shrieked in fear, "What do you want? I don’t know any Brother Shan! Why do you want me to go with you?"
"Just shut the fuck up and do as we say or else," the man with the knife threatened. "And don’t think about being smart or anything."
Three other men blocked the woman’s retreat, leaving only one direction available. At the end of that direction was a parked minivan.
"You guys are already being stupid," came a voice out of nowhere.
The men were taken aback and turned to see four young men approaching under the lamplight. Zhang Xian, the leading young man with crossed arms and a faint smile on his handsome face, quickly attracted their attention.
"Zhang... Zhang Xian? Why are you here at this hour?" the woman asked, surprised.
Zhang Xian recognized the woman under the lamplight with a shock and was about to reply when the man with the knife swung the blade menacingly, warning, "Little punks, go home and sleep, some things aren’t for you to interfere with. If you can’t take a hint and dare to speak out of turn, I promise you won’t have a good ending."
"Fuck, aren’t you a chatterbox!"
Shen Nanshan’s mouth twitched. He took off his flip-flop, stepped forward, and smacked it across the man’s face, "If you’re going to fight, then fight! Stop yammering!"
