Chapter 456: Chapter 463: Beat You to Death, You Big Pervert
John Brown had no idea that just two random pedestrians nearby would make Gina Lopez think he was still involved in some secret doings. Even less did he expect Gina’s current indifference toward him wasn’t due to a lack of feelings, or treating him as a stranger, but rather a form of care.
Gina Lopez’s attitude led John to believe she had completely given up on him, signaling the inevitable collapse of their marriage.
John gave a self-mocking smile and lightly shook his head. He hadn’t expected this marriage to end so quickly. He truly felt a pang of reluctance regarding Gina, but since she had already made up her mind, he wasn’t going to force her. After all, a forced relationship never ends sweetly, and given all his current entanglements, this marriage was indeed difficult for Gina to endure.
Exhaling deeply, John felt a wave of relief. Without the constraints of marriage, he wouldn’t need to overthink things anymore.
John unlocked his phone, and immediately, a slew of notifications poured in—over a hundred, mostly missed call reminders. The majority were from Emily Berns, though there were also a few from Emma Campbell. Emma hadn’t called many times, only a handful. Despite missing John, this girl was cautious, afraid to disturb his life. The few calls she’d made recently were likely out of worry, realizing she hadn’t managed to reach him.
Also among the missed calls were those from Gina Lopez and Emily Lopez. But these were from right after he’d left YODC City; afterward, there were none, further confirming John’s assumption—Gina had completely given up on him, so much so that she wouldn’t even call.
To his surprise, Melody Yoody hadn’t called either, though John wasn’t shocked. Ever since this woman became pregnant with his child, her pride had only grown. If John didn’t seek her out, she was resolute enough not to contact him either.
John brought up Emma Campbell’s number and dialed. The phone rang twice before Emma answered, "Big Brother Brown, why... why have you kept your phone off these past few days?"
Hearing Emma’s deeply concerned voice, John felt a surge of warmth and guilt as he responded, "I’ve been out these past days, it wasn’t convenient to keep my phone on. Sorry for worrying you."
"Ah, that’s good, that’s good."
John could picture Emma lightly patting her chest, relieved. His heart warmed further—regardless of others’ attitudes or his past actions, Emma always treated him unconditionally well.
"Emma, are you busy today?"
"Not busy, not busy!" Emma replied, eagerly.
John smiled faintly, saying, "Then I’ll meet you at the school gates shortly."
"Okay, okay, I’ll head out right now."
After hanging up, John hailed a cab and arrived at the entrance of Emma’s school. She was already waiting at the gates, her timing quicker than his. Her heaving chest and the sweat on her forehead were clear indicators she’d sprinted all the way here.
"Big Brother Brown!" Emma shouted upon seeing John, quickly running toward him. However, as she neared, she instinctively halted, glancing around.
John stretched out his arms, smiling warmly at her. A blush appeared on Emma’s face as her lips pressed slightly together, and then she suddenly threw herself into John’s embrace, tightly hugging his waist as if trying to merge into him.
Holding Emma, John felt an unexplainable happiness. Being with Emma carried no burdens; this girl was entirely devoted, without even the slightest ulterior motives.
Especially here at the school gates, where Emma—usually a shy girl—could boldly embrace him without concern for watching peers. For her, this act required tremendous courage.
Leaning down, John kissed Emma softly on her hair and whispered, "Emma, let’s go home."
Emma raised her head, her blush deepened, but her eyes now carried a hint of flirtatious charm. She softly agreed, taking John’s arm. In that moment, at this place, John belonged solely to her, and she was no longer afraid of others’ gazes.
Just then, the sound of a door unlocking reached John’s ears. It was the distinct sound of a regular key turning a lock. Emma didn’t notice it, but John’s heightened senses, which had recently returned, picked it up even in this pivotal moment.
The person casually entering had to be Sarah Grandy, that cheeky young girl.
"Sister Emma!" Sarah, who hadn’t stayed here for the past couple of days, had gone traveling with her parents and returned yesterday. Today, she couldn’t wait any longer and came back, only to hear Emma’s cries upon entering.
Emma’s cries sounded painful, which startled Sarah. She thought Emma was facing danger. Boldly, she dashed to the bathroom, grabbed the mop, and rushed into the bedroom to see a man pressing down on Emma. Without hesitation, she swung the mop towards John’s back.
John had assumed Sarah might feel embarrassed about walking in, or perhaps come in throwing a tantrum, but he didn’t expect her to start attacking with a mop. What’s more, she reacted so quickly that he hadn’t had enough time to get off Emma.
"I’ll beat you, you pervert! Sister Emma, don’t be scared—I’ll save you!"
John quickly reached out to grab the mop handle. He couldn’t just let Sarah hit him, and said, "Charlotte, it’s me."
Upon hearing John’s voice, Sarah froze momentarily, then dropped the mop and leaped onto the bed, launching herself at John with excitement, shouting, "Mister, I’ve missed you so much!"
After taking a shower, John felt refreshed and cheerful as he took Emma and Sarah out shopping for groceries.
Emma, as usual, held onto John’s arm, while today Sarah mimicked her by clinging to his other arm. After everything Sarah had done today, John decided not to resist her antics anymore, letting her have her way.
Their presence, with two beautiful women—despite their young ages—was enough to turn heads, especially as both clung to John’s arms. Other men couldn’t help but cast envious glances his way.
After buying groceries, the trio returned home to prepare dinner together, enjoying a delicious meal before settling on the couch to watch TV.
Emma hadn’t seen John for several days and cherished their time together, knowing his marriage made moments like this rare. Unsure whether John would leave tonight, she stayed close to him, savoring his presence.
Sarah, imitating Emma in everything, nestled against his other side. Given that Sarah wasn’t stepping out of line now, John accepted the situation, embracing this fleeting warmth.
Time flew, and by eight in the evening, night had started to fall. Emma straightened up and softly said, "Big Brother Brown, you should head back now."
John smiled faintly and replied, "I’m staying."
Sarah immediately exclaimed with excitement, "That’s fantastic!"
Emma, however, quickly interjected, "Big Brother Brown, you don’t have to stay with us constantly. If you don’t go back, your wife might find out and get upset with you."
John thought back to the way Gina had looked at him earlier, that distant demeanor, and sighed, saying, "She doesn’t need me to go back anymore."
"Why?!" Emma asked, startled.
John smiled faintly and replied, "I’m not the right person for her, so she’s decided not to stay with me anymore. But you, Emma, you’re wonderful—you never find fault with me."
Sarah, even more thrilled, shook John’s arm and said, "Mister, don’t be sad. It’s actually great! Now you can stay with us. Marry Sister Emma as your wife, and I’ll be your mistress. The three of us will be so happy together!"
Emma, however, wasn’t as carefree. She anxiously said, "Big Brother Brown, wasn’t there some misunderstanding between you two? You should try explaining properly."
John shook his head and said, "No need for explanations. Some things can’t be resolved with just words."
Sarah shot Emma a glance and said, "Exactly! She doesn’t understand how wonderful Mister is. Why bother with her? Anyway, you’ve got us—me and Sister Emma—and we’re better than just her alone!"
John playfully slapped Sarah on the butt and laughed, "Stop messing around. Your Mister isn’t thinking about marriage right now. It’s not that I don’t love Emma—it’s just that I have other matters to handle first."
Emma wasn’t disappointed. She never thought she suited being John’s wife anyway. She simply nestled closer to him, whispering, "Big Brother Brown, whatever decision you make, I’ll support you. But please, don’t let me hold you back in any way."
John held Emma’s hand, overwhelmed with emotion. In this world, there were plenty of girls prettier than Emma, but someone as genuinely kind and loving as her seemed impossible to find again.
