Chapter 434: Chapter 441: I’ve Given Birth to a Daughter for You
"Because... I’m pregnant."
When Emily Berns said these words, it was like a sudden thunderclap, leaving John Brown’s ears buzzing. Only then did he understand why Emily had endured so much hardship. Emily’s family was significant, and the N Family was strict with their children. For a girl like Emily, being pregnant before marriage was an exceptionally serious issue. Naturally, Emily wouldn’t dare to tell her family, so she had to secretly run away.
As a woman herself, Gina Lopez understood how painful such an unplanned pregnancy could be. However, at this moment, she was more concerned about another issue and asked nervously, "Then what happened next?"
Seeing the shocked expressions on John Brown and Gina Lopez’s faces, Emily suddenly felt a burst of satisfaction. Tilting her head and smirking, she replied, "Of course, I gave birth."
"What?!" John Brown, Gina Lopez, and Lucy Campbell all exclaimed loudly at the same time.
Emily’s mood improved further, and she spoke slowly, "I hate you. But since I couldn’t find you, I decided to give birth to your child. Then, every day, I beat him up so your son could atone for your sins."
Chills ran down John Brown’s spine. This woman’s thought process was simply too malicious.
Lucy Campbell interjected then, saying, "Emily, you’ve been in the entertainment industry for the past two years, and I’ve never seen you bring a child around."
Emily curled her lip and said, "I’m in the entertainment industry—how could I let anyone know I’ve had a child? Especially an illegitimate one! That would completely ruin my career. Hmph, I wanted to have a son to torment him; but guess what? I gave birth to a daughter instead. That infuriated me even more."
Hearing this, John Brown felt a sense of relief. At least this meant Emily wouldn’t vent her anger on her daughter. He asked urgently, "Then where is the child now?"
"Hmph, it was hard enough for me to secretly give birth to her—you expect me to raise her too? I’ve already sent your daughter away."
"What?!" John Brown slammed the table and stood abruptly.
"What’s the matter? Angry? You got me pregnant and abandoned me—you think you can just leave me to raise the child alone? You wish."
"Who did you send her to?" John Brown asked, visibly furious.
"I’m not telling you. If you have the ability, find her yourself."
The angrier John Brown became, the more thrilled Emily felt. Swinging her legs with a smug smile, she was brimming with delight.
Gina Lopez could tolerate John Brown’s past indiscretions, but now a child had been brought into the equation, making her deeply uncomfortable. Her face began to darken.
Lucy Campbell, however, furrowed her brows and remarked, "Emily, if you were an ordinary person, I might believe you managed to secretly give birth to a child. But given your status, sneaking out to have a baby without anyone finding out seems way too far-fetched."
Lucy’s words immediately struck a chord with John Brown and Gina Lopez. Gina quickly commented, "Don’t try to use this child to manipulate my husband. If you truly have a child, bring them here, and my husband will acknowledge them. But if you can’t, it only proves you’re fabricating this story."
John Brown also calmed down. Though he believed Emily could be extreme enough to attempt such a thing, it seemed implausible for her to have had a child while maintaining her entertainment career.
Seeing their disbelief, Emily suddenly stood up, lifted her shirt, and exposed her abdomen. "You don’t believe me, huh? Then look—I had a cesarean section. At the time, no one took care of me, and I left the hospital before my wound healed, leading to an infection."
John Brown and Gina Lopez, seated directly across from her, could see it clearly. Lucy Campbell, who was nearby, leaned over and saw the horizontal scar on Emily’s abdomen. Though not overly prominent, it was certainly noticeable.
Gina frowned and said, "Maybe you had surgery for another reason?"
Emily scoffed and replied, "You’re a woman—you should know where this scar is located. This is the uterus. Aside from childbirth, surgery here is only needed for severe medical conditions. If I had a normal illness, wouldn’t my family have sent me to a hospital? Lucy Campbell, with your skills, pulling up my medical records shouldn’t be difficult."
Lucy nodded, beginning to believe Emily’s claim that the scar was indeed from childbirth. If Emily had been seriously ill, she would have been treated by her family in a top hospital, and the records would be easy to trace.
John Brown realized this as well and slumped back into his seat. He took a long drag on his cigarette and said bitterly, "Emily, I owe you an apology. But how could you take out your anger on an innocent child?"
Seeing John Brown in this state, Emily’s resentment transformed into excitement. Squinting her eyes, she retorted, "I want you to understand what kind of price you have to pay for hurting someone."
John Brown took a deep breath and asked, "Fine. Are you satisfied now?"
"Not even close! Absolutely not!" Emily snapped. "To give birth to the child, I couldn’t let my family know. I had to hide—not just in the city, but in a remote village. Do you know how hard it was for me? I’ve never slept on a dirt bed before; I’ve never lived in a house without air conditioning. I couldn’t eat well, couldn’t sleep well, and every night mosquitoes circled around me. I barely slept and woke up covered in bites every morning. I had to endure strange looks from people too. Do you know how hard that was for me? Do you know what kept me going?"
The hardships Emily described might seem trivial to John Brown, but for a pampered woman like her, they were overwhelming. He sighed and said, "I understand it was difficult for you. But the child is innocent. If you don’t want to raise her, tell me where she is, and I’ll take responsibility. I failed to be a father when she was born, and now I won’t stand by and watch her suffer."
"Don’t even think about it," Emily replied resolutely.
Gina Lopez interjected, "Emily, what exactly is it that you want now?"
Emily glanced at Gina and then John Brown before grinning suddenly and announcing, "It’s simple—I want this jerk to marry me."
