Chapter 426: Chapter 433: Encountering the Bane
The Senior Advisor was charging forward, and as John Brown’s elbow struck back, even though John Brown wasn’t particularly fast, the relative speed was incredibly high. Furthermore, John Brown’s move was extremely swift, and the Senior Advisor had clearly seen John Brown’s action, but it was too late to react.
However, the Senior Advisor was indeed a true master. Even at such a moment, he could still make the wisest choice. He violently leaned back, inhaled, and focused all his strength on his chest. Unable to dodge, he could only choose to take John Brown’s hit head-on.
But John Brown’s move turned out to be a feint, with the real fatal strike coming from below. His right foot spun, and his left foot swung horizontally.
All of the Senior Advisor’s strength was concentrated in his chest, and his legs were moving forward entirely out of inertia. Even if he sensed the attack, he could only hastily react, channeling the strength from his chest down to his legs.
However, the reaction was too hurried, and he couldn’t gather much strength. When their legs collided, his leg felt like it was hit by a sledgehammer, lifting both his legs off the ground involuntarily, sending his body flying.
At this moment, John Brown’s elbow turned from a horizontal sweep to a downward strike, hitting the Senior Advisor’s chest.
The combined actions were so quick that the two resulting sounds were indistinguishable, and the Senior Advisor was already lying on the ground, with a broken leg and three fractured ribs, blood trickling from his mouth, glaring fiercely at John Brown.
He acknowledged his defeat; in this situation, he had no strength left to continue fighting.
But his defeat was so humiliating, as he hadn’t executed a single move against John Brown, and was taken down by the stealthy methods of this young man.
"Kid, you’re clever!" Despite his outrage, the Senior Advisor’s tone was tranquil. He fully understood John Brown’s tactics now. Earlier, John Brown had deliberately shown weakness, lulling him into complacency, and then striking unexpectedly, catching him off guard. From those moves, he realized that even if John Brown was weaker, he wasn’t far off. Even in a direct confrontation, it would have taken significant effort to defeat John Brown.
John Brown chuckled and said, "Apologies, if we fought face-to-face, I’d probably be the one lying here. I hope you won’t mind, sir."
The Senior Advisor inhaled, causing sharp pain in his chest that almost made him cough, but he forcefully held it back and said, "Since you’ve won, do as you please, whether to kill or not."
John Brown shook his head and said, "This is a lawful society now. How could I kill you? But you should find your own way out, I’m leaving first."
With that, he dragged Lucy Campbell into the car, disappearing in the blink of an eye.
Only then did the Senior Advisor cough audibly, filled with frustration, and the most frustrating part was that he couldn’t move, hadn’t brought a cell phone, and with no one around, it was hard to find help.
It wasn’t until an hour later that someone discovered him. By then, not only was he in pain from his injuries, but he had also been under the sun for over an hour, nearly baking off a layer of his skin.
The Senior Advisor was sent back to the Brownie Family, which shocked everyone there. Though not the top fighter, he was among the best in the family. His devastating defeat made everyone wonder just how formidable John Brown was, and why Lucy Campbell didn’t stop them from directly confronting him.
William Johnson was furious but suppressed his anger. The household’s advisors were too precious, only used for major events. Suffering losses due to someone like John Brown was unjustifiable. Therefore, William ultimately didn’t deploy the remaining advisors, considering the matter settled for now.
John Brown and Lucy Campbell sat in the car, and Lucy suddenly burst out laughing. "I have to say, James, he’s so old, yet you still ambushed him?"
John Brown chuckled and said, "That old man’s martial arts skills aren’t weak. If we fought, it would be troublesome. If I can knock him down with minimal effort, why not take the easiest route? Besides, I’m just an ordinary person now; being too formidable would just cause more trouble."
Lucy gently shook her head, saying, "You’re not an ordinary person to begin with. If you insist on being one, it won’t be easy."
"Anyway, I really enjoy my life now, and I don’t wish to get involved in fights unless someone provokes me first."
Lucy looked at John Brown again, didn’t say anything, and then said, "There’s still time this afternoon, accompany me to buy some more things. I need to bring gifts for Gina and the others. I’ve borrowed her husband, so I should acknowledge it in some way."
John Brown readily agreed, driving Lucy Campbell to a large shopping mall.
Lucy laughed lightly and said, "Haha, seeing that you’re buying for your wife, you came to such a place. You’re clearly exploiting me, aren’t you?"
John Brown laughed heartily and said, "You have so much money, exploiting you a bit won’t cause any heartache. If I don’t exploit, it’s a waste!"
"Haha, fine, I’ll spend a bit more to satisfy you today."
The two strolled while shopping, and John Brown didn’t hold back, having Lucy buy quite a lot. Not only for Gina Lopez and Emily Lopez, but also for Emily Jenkins. Lucy didn’t mind at all and was actually quite happy. Being able to shop with John Brown and enjoy a normal life, Lucy found herself quite liking it.
"I’m going to the restroom." Reaching the third-floor bathroom entrance, Lucy entered.
John Brown waited at the door, and a woman with wide brown sunglasses walked out from the bathroom and bumped into John Brown. Seeing her, he was startled and quickly turned his head away.
The woman brushed past John Brown and walked away, letting him breathe a sigh of relief, thinking she hadn’t recognized him.
However, just moments later, John Brown noticed the woman turning back, heading directly towards the restroom area. Alarmed, he realized she must have recognized him.
This woman was one of the women John Brown most feared, Emily Berns, whom he had encountered at Nathaniel Johnson’s party. While John Brown dodged her then, not letting her see him, he never imagined she’d show up in YODC City and have another chance to meet him. The world truly is small; even a casual trip to the mall led to crossing paths with Emily Berns.
Emily Berns had just brushed past John Brown, merely glancing at him without much thought. After a few steps, her mind suddenly recalled the detestable man, and she stopped abruptly. Wasn’t the man she just encountered that scoundrel?
The more she thought about it, the more convinced she became. She quickly turned back, rushing to the restroom entrance, but there was no sign of John Brown.
Emily Berns was close to the restroom entrance, and since the restroom was located in a corner, John Brown would have to pass by her if he were to leave. Seeing as he hadn’t exited, it meant he must be inside the restroom.
"You asshole, I’ve finally caught you, let’s see where you can run now." Emily Berns cursed internally, clenching her small white fists and fixating her eyes on the men’s restroom.
After a while, more than a dozen people went in and out, but not John Brown.
A woman staring at the men’s restroom door made those coming and going quite uneasy, causing many to cast extra glances her way.
Emily Berns wasn’t bothered, keeping her eyes glued to the restroom. "You scoundrel, I don’t believe you can stay in there forever."
But after waiting for over ten minutes and not seeing John Brown, Emily Berns started doubting. Had he slipped away?
But she had been watching the whole time and hadn’t seen him exit.
Clenching her teeth, Emily Berns turned to a man who had just entered, saying, "Mister, could you help me check? I’m looking for someone."
Despite wearing wide sunglasses that obscured much of her face and some makeup, the man didn’t recognize her as the famous star. However, her beauty and sweet voice were enough for him to happily agree.
After engaging a few other men similarly, she had someone check inside to see if anyone remained. Momentarily, the man returned, saying, "There’s no one left inside."
Emily Berns was stunned; it seemed impossible. John Brown had clearly entered the restroom.
Unwilling to give up, she rushed into the men’s restroom, checking each stall, but indeed found no one. She was bewildered.
"Miss, are you done in there? I really need to go," a man called out to Emily Berns from the door.
Blushing crimson, Emily Berns scurried out, her face burning with embarrassment. She nearly fled, but halting abruptly at the doorway, she turned into the women’s restroom.
That sneaky John Brown; she’d seen him, so he must’ve seen her, naturally trying to hide from her. Thinking he might’ve run into the women’s restroom, she’d definitely catch him there!
The female restroom had been unobserved by her before, yet she was certain only women had entered. If John Brown had gone in, he wouldn’t have come out.
