Chapter 393: Chapter 400 Emily Lopez’s Cunning Plan Succeeds Again
"Why didn’t Emily come over?" John Brown asked while eating. That little foodie can follow smells here, so it was obviously strange that she didn’t show up today.
Lucy Campbell took a sip of porridge and said, "She had a flying mission this morning and left early. She doesn’t even know I’ve helped her move yet."
Sandra didn’t know Lucy had moved in either, so she immediately grew curious and started asking about it. John Brown explained briefly, and Sandra pouted and kicked him under the table.
John Brown pretended not to notice and didn’t respond to Sandra.
After the meal, everyone headed to the office. Recently, John Brown had stopped driving Lucy Campbell’s Porsche. He felt the car was too flashy, so he started using company vehicles to get to and from work. Lucy had left quite a few cars behind when she joined the company, so nearly every manager had access to one.
Gina Lopez was strict about company regulations, though. Lately, she had issued a rule forbidding personal use of company cars. Even for John Brown to use a car, he had to file paperwork at the office.
While it seemed inconvenient, this significantly reduced waste. After all, maintaining vehicles could cost a company a considerable amount of money.
Still, as the company’s CEO, Gina Lopez had some privileges. She occasionally drove company cars but always followed proper filing procedures. The car John Brown was driving happened to be Gina’s.
In recent days, Gina had discussed buying a car with John. On this matter, Gina was exceptionally considerate — even though it was technically her money, she always consulted John before purchasing anything for their home and never acted entitled.
However, they hadn’t had time recently and hadn’t picked out a car yet. So, they decided to delay the purchase for a while.
The office was relatively quiet today. Lucy Campbell fully demonstrated a secretary’s capabilities, making sure John Brown, as a manager, was entirely at ease.
In the meantime, male employees at the company were constantly finding excuses to approach Lucy Campbell, making John Brown annoyed. He eventually put up a notice at the door, stating that anyone entering his office for non-work reasons would have their bonuses docked. This instantly made the male colleagues behave much better, though some clearly held grudges against him.
The HR department, however, strongly supported John Brown’s approach. When they came to his office, it was always for legitimate work reasons, such as project updates or approvals. Employees from other departments didn’t have as much justification.
Later in the day, John Brown drove home. This time, the car belonged to Lucy Campbell. It was just a Mercedes-Benz 350L, priced slightly over one million dollars — a completely new vehicle. After learning Gina Lopez’s company regulations, Lucy Campbell had been quietly impressed. For convenience, she specifically prepared this car to help facilitate everyone’s commutes.
Employees noticed John Brown and Lucy Campbell leaving together and getting into the same car. This stirred quiet speculation — nobody knew what their relationship was. They arrived at work together, left together, and spent the entire day sharing an office. They were practically inseparable.
But seeing Gina Lopez leave with them as well puzzled everyone even more. Some guessed Lucy Campbell might be related to Mr. Lopez somehow. In this scenario, John Brown was probably just acting as a driver.
Since Lucy Campbell was around, Gina wasn’t worried about people gossiping about her and John Brown. She felt comfortable leaving work together.
The trio later picked up Sandra. As soon as Sandra got into the car, she pouted.
John Brown asked with a smile, "What’s wrong?"
Sandra immediately replied, "An expert visited school today and said my feet are damaged from years of dancing. If I continue like this, it may affect my walking in the future."
Gina Lopez was instantly alarmed. "How could that happen?"
Sandra turned around, her eyes a little red, and said, "The expert explained that for dancers like us, the most damage occurs to the feet and legs. If we pay attention to maintenance and regularly get massages, it won’t be a problem. But I didn’t know this before, so I never paid attention. What am I going to do now?"
Gina quickly said, "From now on, after work, you’ll get daily massages. I’ll cover the cost." No matter how strict Gina seemed, she deeply cared for her sister and was the first to panic when Sandra had a problem.
"But I’d have to go to a massage clinic after work. That’s so inconvenient," Sandra pouted again.
At this point, John Brown was expected to chime in with his skills, but Lucy Campbell suddenly interrupted, "I’ll hire a professional masseur for you. They’ll come to your home every day to give you massages."
Gina immediately said, "Thank you so much, Mr. Smith."
Sandra was stunned; the plan she’d cooked up with John Brown had suddenly been thrown off course because of Lucy Campbell.
John Brown, amused, didn’t rush to intervene. He was curious to see how Sandra would navigate this.
Sandra gave a sweet smile to Lucy Campbell. "Thanks, Mr. Smith, but having someone visit at home feels too inconvenient. How can I trouble you like that?"
Lucy Campbell’s smile grew even sweeter. "It’s no trouble. Leave everything to me."
"That won’t work," Sandra said. "It’s just me, my sister, and my brother-in-law at home. We’re used to being casual there. If the masseur is a man, I won’t be comfortable, not to mention it would make my sister and brother-in-law uneasy. If it’s a woman, then my brother-in-law would feel awkward."
Gina frowned and said, "Awkward or not, what’s more important than your health? This isn’t up for discussion. We have to hire someone."
Sandra, seeing her sister angry, grew even more upset. Her eyes turned red, and she said, "I already feel bad about my health. You don’t need to shout at me."
Gina softened her tone immediately. "I’m not shouting at you. I’m just worried."
"You were shouting. You’re bullying me." Sandra started throwing a tantrum like a little kid.
Gina was at a loss. John Brown finally spoke up at the right moment. "Actually, I know how to do this kind of massage."
Gina said with surprise, "Really?"
While driving, John Brown explained, "During my time in the military, our muscle conditioning needs were even greater than Sandra’s. We learned massage techniques to relax our muscles, along with soaking our feet after training. It was quite effective for relieving fatigue."
Gina said excitedly, "That’s perfect! Sandra, you’ll let your brother-in-law massage your feet from now on, right?"
Unexpectedly, Sandra immediately objected. "No way! He’s my brother-in-law, not my husband. How can I let him casually touch my feet? What would people think?"
John Brown was stunned. Sandra presented this argument with such conviction, even though he’d already massaged her feet numerous times in the past.
Gina, unaware of this secret, rolled her eyes at her sister. "What nonsense! He’s your brother-in-law; what’s so bad about it? John, say something."
John Brown could only cooperate by saying, "Alright then, I’ll do the massage for Sandra."
Sandra begrudgingly agreed, and Gina finally felt relieved. However, John Brown noticed through the rearview mirror that Lucy Campbell was giving him an enigmatic look. His heart skipped a beat. Could this clever woman have figured things out?
