Chapter 331: Chapter 339 There is one more
Gina Lopez hadn’t noticed how conflicted James Brown was feeling there; she was still thinking about having a child soon to cheer up her mother and hadn’t even considered how to get pregnant, nor realized that she was truly married now—truly James Brown’s wife. She hadn’t thought about the fact that even if she and James Brown were no longer together, she would be labeled as a divorced woman.
In the past few days, Gina Lopez hardly slept well, staying by her mother’s side constantly. Now, sitting in the car, she unwittingly fell asleep, and James Brown, who had wanted to have a serious talk with her, missed the chance.
The car continued its journey to YODC City, and Gina Lopez didn’t wake up; she was simply too exhausted.
After parking the car, James Brown gently nudged Gina Lopez, saying, "We’re home now, wake up."
"Hmm...we’re home?" Gina Lopez murmured sleepily as she opened her eyes, pushed the car door open, but didn’t immediately step out. Instead, she rubbed her forehead and said, "I feel a bit dizzy."
James Brown felt Gina Lopez’s forehead and it wasn’t hot, but judging by her appearance, she likely felt unwell. He got out of the car and helped Gina down.
Gina Lopez walked unsteadily, seemingly in discomfort, which made James Brown worriedly suggest, "Should we go to the hospital?"
"No need, I’m just really tired these past days. I’ll feel better after some rest at home."
James Brown knew Gina Lopez was stubborn; once she made up her mind, it was hard for anyone to stop her. He felt she probably wasn’t seriously ill, so he continued to support Gina Lopez all the way to her house. She leaned heavily on James Brown throughout, her eyes barely open.
After helping Gina Lopez to the bed in her room, she immediately lay down, saying, "I’m thirsty, could you get me a glass of water, please?"
James Brown agreed, and when he returned, Gina Lopez struggled to sit up, looking very weak. James Brown helped her sit properly and brought the glass of water to her lips. After a couple of sips, she shook her head indicating she didn’t want any more.
"I’m still tired, I’m going to sleep a bit more," Gina Lopez said as she lay back down.
James Brown hesitated for a moment, then asked, "Aren’t you going to change your clothes before sleeping?"
Gina Lopez acknowledged with a sound and began to undress on the bed.
Any man would find a beautiful woman undressing in front of them exciting. If this had been a few days ago, James Brown would have admired the sight, but today, he felt an intense fear and quickly turned around, not daring to look at Gina Lopez.
Gina Lopez took off her outer clothes and pants, now only in her bra and underwear, and then pulled the covers over herself.
She had been absent-minded these past two days, paying no attention to things she normally would. Moreover, having shared a room with James Brown recently, and after several intimate encounters, she didn’t mind exposing herself in front of James Brown.
Shaking his head, James Brown left the bedroom and sat in the living room, still trying to figure out how to face the sudden change in their relationship, but he couldn’t come up with any good solutions.
Seeing it was getting late, James Brown went back into the bedroom and checked Gina Lopez’s forehead. Her head wasn’t hot, so she likely wasn’t feverish, and he assumed there was no problem. Just as he was about to leave, Gina Lopez’s phone started ringing in the living room, and James Brown quickly went to check it.
Normally, it would be impolite to do so and akin to prying into someone’s privacy, but James Brown, worried the ringing would wake Gina Lopez, checked the caller ID. If he recognized the number, he would answer; if not, he would turn it to silent mode.
The call was from Emily Lopez. James Brown immediately picked up and said, "Emily, what’s up?"
Emily Lopez said, "Brother-in-law, have you guys arrived home?"
"We’re home, your sister is so tired, she’s already asleep."
Emily Lopez let out a sound of acknowledgment and said, "You’re all asleep? Then I must be bothering you." Although she mentioned bothering, she had no intention of hanging up the phone.
James Brown said, "I’m not asleep. Is it Mom’s health...?"
"Mom’s fine. I just wanted to check if you guys got home safely. Also, Mom is looking forward to you guys having a baby, so you better work hard at it."
James Brown broke into a cold sweat. When a younger sister-in-law brings up this matter with her brother-in-law, it always adds an ambiguous air. Moreover, he had a little flirtation with this sister-in-law a few days ago. Discussing this topic now felt even stranger.
"We will." As he spoke, James Brown felt at a loss for words with Emily Lopez, as his mood had been too heavy these past few days.
"Brother-in-law..." Emily Lopez called out tentatively to "Brother-in-law" and then fell silent.
"What’s up?" James Brown asked instinctively.
"Nothing, I should be wishing you a happy marriage today."
A bitter smile involuntarily appeared on James Brown’s face, and he said, "Thank you."
Emily Lopez then asked, "Brother-in-law, do you feel a bit reluctant?"
"Emily, don’t speak nonsense. If Mom hears this, she will be unhappy."
"I’m in my room; Mom can’t hear. Tell me, are you reluctant to marry my sister?"
James Brown sighed and said, "I wouldn’t say I’m reluctant, but it just feels a bit awkward to get married so suddenly."
"Hehe, you’ll get used to it. My mom says that in the past, couples would get married without even seeing each other much and still live happily. My sister isn’t bad either; you will slowly adapt to each other, and soon you’ll start feeling the happiness."
James Brown shook his head and said, "I hope so."
"Brother-in-law..." Emily Lopez’s tone suddenly became coy, "If my sister is lacking in some way... she still has a younger sister, you know."
James Brown’s heart stirred abruptly. What Emily Lopez said was just too... suggestive. What does it mean ’she still has a younger sister’? Could it be implying that if her sister falls short in some aspect, her younger sister would make up for it? That would mean...
Thinking back on how good Emily Lopez had been to him recently and how she not only didn’t get angry over their little flirtations but often took the initiative, made James Brown feel especially excited.
"Emily..." Just as James Brown was about to say something, he realized that Emily Lopez had already hung up the phone.
Holding the phone, James Brown’s feelings were in complete disarray. With his marriage to Gina Lopez, he had always been conflicted and distressed, but this was the first time he felt an indescribable thrill and anticipation.
