Chapter 320: Chapter 328 Emily Lopez Whistleblowing

On Friday, aboard the airplane bound for ASCS City, James Brown, Gina Lopez, and Emily Lopez were seated together in economy class.

Gina usually flew first class, but Emily insisted on flying economy for a simple reason; first class seats were arranged in pairs, whereas economy had rows of three seats, allowing all three of them to sit together. Moreover, she made sure James was seated in the middle.

Gina had generously stated last time that she didn’t mind her sister competing with her for James’s affection, so she couldn’t really say anything now. She had to let James sit between them and enjoy the envy of other men.

And the trio certainly attracted a lot of attention. A pair of identical twins, both stunningly beautiful, no matter where they were, they made others envious. And with James sitting between them, the envy was even greater.

As soon as they boarded the plane, Emily was chattering away with James, talking about everything under the sun, and they just seemed to hit it off well. Gina hardly got the chance to join in—the bewildering thing for her was how talkative James could be with Emily, and how easily they could find common ground, whereas with her, it seemed that the only thing they could talk about was work.

This filled Gina with frustration. She tried to join the conversation a few times, but James would only respond briefly before resuming his conversation with Emily.

Emily would call him "Brother-in-law" repeatedly, making it clear to everyone that James was the husband of the beautiful woman beside him. But the intimacy between a brother-in-law and his sister-in-law raised suspicions about the nature of their relationship, and some unsavory thinkers even speculated that James must have conquered both sisters.

This uncomfortable situation for Gina finally changed when they got home. Their parents were delighted to have the three of them back. Mrs. Lopez held Gina’s hand, inquiring about their life, asking about wedding plans and pregnancy.

"cough... Why aren’t you pregnant yet? You don’t have any problems, do you? Should you go for a medical check-up?" Mrs. Lopez had been coughing incessantly as she spoke today.

Gina detested this topic and quickly said, "We’re both fine, but having a baby isn’t that easy. Some people take a couple of years, you know. And mom, why are you constantly coughing? Have you been to the doctor?"

"It’s nothing, just the unusual weather these past days, making me cough due to the wind."

Gina insisted, "You can’t ignore that. I’m back now, and I’ll take you for a check-up tomorrow if your cough doesn’t stop."

"Alright, I’ll go check it out tomorrow, and I might as well take both of you with me."

Gina’s face darkened immediately, "You get your check-up; why do you need to check us too?" The thought of going for a check-up terrified her—if it came to light that she was still a virgin, her secret would be revealed.

Mrs. Lopez’s eyes widened as she said, "If you don’t go for a check-up, neither will I."

Gina was at her wit’s end and looked at James for help. He quickly interjected, "Mom, if Gina and I were to get a check-up, we’d have to go to a specialized hospital. But there’s no rush. Your health, however, cannot be compromised, let’s go for a check-up tomorrow."

Although their marriage certificate was a sham, James had started to call Gina’s parents mom and dad.

"Then I won’t go tomorrow; it’s my birthday, and who goes to the hospital on their birthday? I’ll just get some cough medicine later; it should soon pass."

At that point, neither Gina nor James dared to discuss the topic further, to avoid being taken to the hospital for a check-up. Besides, it was just a cough, probably just a minor cold.

Gina had never been so eager to retreat to the bedroom with James, but she couldn’t stand her mother’s nagging. Shortly after dinner, she excused herself to rest, and given her mother’s cough, the mahjong game wasn’t set up, and with Gina’s parents eager for grandchildren, they sent James back to Gina’s room as well.

Emily watched her mother coughing non-stop, and her eyes began to roll around, conjuring up a mischievous idea.

"Mom, I’ve got a secret to tell you," Emily said as she entered her parents’ room and closed the door, lowering her voice.

"What secret are you talking about?" Jonathan Lopez and his wife looked confusedly at Emily.

Emily hopped onto the bed, sat cross-legged, and whispered, "You have to promise not to make a fuss or shout and disturb sister and brother-in-law after I tell you."

Jonathan laughed, "What could be so secretive? Is it something to do with your boyfriend?"

"No, no, it’s about my sister and brother-in-law."

"What’s with them?" Mrs. Lopez frowned and then coughed twice more.

"Mom, Dad, I have to tell you, my sister and brother-in-law aren’t actually married," Emily revealed.

"What?" Both parents were shocked, their eyes widening, and they couldn’t help but exclaim, but Emily was prepared and quickly covered their mouths with her hands.

"Didn’t I tell you not to make a noise?" Emily glared at her parents.

"What’s going on?" Emily Lopez’s mother snatched away her hand and asked anxiously.

Emily relayed the story of how James Brown and Gina Lopez had fabricated a fake marriage certificate, which made both Jonathan Lopez and his wife deeply frown. They had thought they were about to have grandchildren, but it all turned out to be fake. Emily’s mother was even more annoyed, saying, "How could Gina do this? How could she?"

Emily giggled and said, "Don’t be in such a hurry, I actually have a plan. I know my sister likes my brother-in-law quite a bit now, but there’s been no progress between them. Without giving them a strong push, they just won’t move forward."

"A strong push? What kind of strong push?" Jonathan Lopez and his wife looked at Emily with puzzled expressions, knowing that their daughter often had crafty ideas.

Emily giggled again and said, "No pain, no gain. If we’re not prepared to sacrifice, we can’t expect to win over the brother-in-law."

Jonathan slapped Emily on the arm and said, "What kind of nonsense are you spouting, you little rascal?"

Emily said proudly, "This is a golden opportunity, lean in and I’ll tell you."

After Emily chattered away with an idea, the expressions on Jonathan Lopez and his wife’s faces were a bit strange, and Jonathan hesitantly said, "Is this really okay?"

Emily’s mother glared and said, "What’s not okay about it? I like that boy James, and I want him to be my son-in-law. Besides, Gina has pretended so many times that she’s already stayed with him. If she doesn’t marry him, who will she marry?"

Emily nodded in agreement, adding, "Exactly, exactly."

Jonathan said with a wry smile, "But still, I feel that using this method... isn’t it going a bit too far?"

Emily’s mother was completely supportive of Emily’s plan, waving her hand and saying, "What’s too far about it? It’s none of your business. If there’s any blame, let it fall on me; you just stay out of the way and don’t mess things up."

With that, the matter was decided. After giving her parents some more instructions, Emily returned to her room, triumphant. The very thought of what was about to happen made her so excited that she danced around and struggled to fall asleep for a long while.

It wasn’t yet nine o’clock; James Brown and Gina Lopez were also wide awake, both lying in bed in their pajamas. Gina’s pajamas were made of real silk with a very open neckline and no bra underneath. In front of James, she no longer cared much, after all, they had been together for a while, and he had pretty much seen everything, almost done everything too.

Sharing a bed with James, Gina felt quite relaxed. It was like a husband and wife sharing a bed. She furrowed her brow and said, "You don’t think there’s something wrong with my mom, do you?"

James casually replied, "It’s just a cold with some coughing, what could be wrong?"

"My mom is usually in good health. Even if she catches a cold, it’s never as bad as this time. And with the weather being so nice now, her coughing like this really worries me."

"Then we should get her checked out properly. If she doesn’t go tomorrow, we’ll accompany her the day after."

"But we need to get back the day after; there are so many things to deal with at the company."

"Then let Emily stay and accompany Mom for the check-up."

"Mm..." Gina nodded, her worry for her mother not overly strong since it didn’t seem to be a serious illness, then she looked at James with a smile, "You’ve gotten quite good at calling her ’mom’."

James rolled his eyes at Gina and said, "I’m just doing it to help you."

"Since you’ve gotten so good at it, there’s no need for you to change it later," Gina said with a thicker smile.

"If you don’t mind me having one more mother-in-law, I wouldn’t mind either," he retorted.

"Get lost!" Gina kicked James’s leg and glared at him.

James chuckled, stretched lazily, and said, "Enough chit-chat, let’s sleep."

Gina glanced at James, her cheeks suddenly flushed with color. She reached out to switch off the bedside lamp, plunging the room into darkness.

After more than ten minutes, Gina heard the faint sound of James’s snoring, which made her feel uncomfortable. After all, she considered herself a beauty, yet this guy James could lie in bed with her and be so unmoved. Was her attraction really so lacking?

The more she thought about it, the less she could bear it. She sent a delicate finger across James’s face, intending not to let him sleep soundly since she couldn’t herself.

After a few strokes, James indeed woke up; however, he rolled over and pinned her beneath him, startling Gina into a flustered stammer, "What... what are you doing?"
