Chapter 306: Chapter 314: Breaking Free and Showing Power

"Catch them!" William Armstrong didn’t expect that James Brown and Helen Wilson could break out despite being surrounded by a dozen bodyguards. He bellowed in a fury; being their base, most of the people here were his, his shout prompted some waiters and the security of the venue to rush over, trying to stop James Brown and Helen Wilson.

However, their strength was far inferior to that of William Armstrong’s bodyguards. They initially intended to stop James Brown, but instead, James charged forward, grabbing a person and throwing him backward, then grabbing another to do the same, effectively using these people as barriers against the pursuing skilled bodyguards.

Helen was also able to manage by seeing James do this, she started to imitate him by pushing people behind her instead of throwing them, as she lacked the strength. Although slower, this method still significantly helped impede those chasing them from behind.

But when the trio reached the main hall, there were still a few skilled people blocking the way, realizing a direct chase was futile, they had circled around to the hall to wait for James and his company.

"Oh, so the police have come to go undercover at my place," William Armstrong said with a sinister smile, his gaze fixed on James Brown and Helen Wilson.

Helen Wilson shouted fiercely: "You know I’m a police officer and you still dare to block us?"

William Armstrong spat fiercely on the ground and said viciously: "Not just police officers, even if the King Father himself were blocking my wealth today, I’d finish him off too. Everyone, attack them; kill them outright."

These thugs were holding weapons, about three-foot-long military spikes, which were bayonets attached to rifles on battlefields. They were deadly sharp, designed to go for the kill with deep blood grooves on either side. If they pierced the body, blood would flow down these grooves, leading not necessarily to fatal woundings but to rapid blood loss leading to death.

James Brown was quite familiar with such items; he used to enjoy handling military spikes. Seeing them now sparked a certain familiarity, but Helen Wilson was massively alarmed upon seeing them. Such weapons being shown meant they were intent on killing them, and neither she nor James were significantly stronger than their foes, particularly unarmed, making the situation extremely perilous.

At this moment, she suddenly thought of the Mysterious Figure. If that Mysterious Figure were here, they would undoubtedly be able to easily handle this trouble, but seeing the current circumstances and no sign of their apparition, Helen Wilson wasn’t hopeful.

At this moment, Emily Jenkins was completely dazed. She had never encountered such a situation all her life; it seemed like something that only happened in movies and on TV, making her feel as if she were on a film set, witnessing a movie being shot rather than reality.

"James Brown, I’ve caused you harm! I’m sorry." Helen sighed deeply, grabbing James’s arm, filled with intense guilt.

James Brown pulled out a cigarette case, flicked a cigarette into his mouth, and lit it suavely with a lighter, saying, "Talking about this now is useless. Let’s focus on how we’re going to get out of here."

Helen gave a sad smile and said, "We have no chance now, but there’s something I must tell you before I die."

"What is it?"

"Actually... I think you’re quite alright."

James Brown was momentarily speechless, but he understood the subtext of Helen’s words. Helen was not good at expressing herself, she had always been hostile towards James, even if they had been intimate, she never admitted it; now she was revealing her true feelings.

James Brown laughed heartily, saying, "For those words alone, I can’t let you die here. Come on, let me take you out today." James, cigarette in mouth, hands spread apart, grabbed Helen Wilson with one hand and Emily Jenkins with the other, striding towards the door.

William Armstrong waved his hand, and those thugs immediately charged at James Brown and the two women, their military spikes mercilessly stabbing towards James, Helen, and even Emily.

James Brown let out a long laugh, holding firmly to both Helen and Emily’s hands, his feet launched a series of kicks, pulling both women to dodge the thugs’ military spikes, while his own kicks mercilessly hit those thugs.

Ever since James Brown returned to the city, he had never harbored a real intent to kill, no matter how infuriating the situations he faced; he dealt with them using regular means. However, facing these extremely vicious foes, he genuinely felt the urge to kill, his kicks packed powerful force, especially aimed at critical points of the thugs.

"Thump thump thump!" At that moment, James Brown was like a tiger released from its cage, while those blocking his way seemed like a herd of sheep, barely able to fight back. In the blink of an eye, the opponents’ thugs were already knocked down, and James had already charged to the door of the karaoke bar.

"Stop him! Kill him!" At this point, William Armstrong could no longer keep calm. A man with two women had laid down his seven to eight heavily paid bodyguards, are they even human?

By then, James Brown had already dashed out the main door, quickly blending into the night, leaving them unable to pursue.

"You useless bunch! Can’t even handle one person, you all boasted about your skills, what are you pretending now? Get up and chase after him!" William Armstrong roared, kicking the bodyguards lying on the ground, but they were unresponsive.

"Boss, they... they seemed to have fainted." A few subordinates went to check and realized the condition of the bodyguards, secretly terrified; a single strike causing fainting, and if any harder, it could directly lead to death.

James Brown indeed had shown restraint, if he had wanted, he could have killed these people, but he was no longer the number two person in Hawk Squad. Back then, to complete a mission, he could kill directly, but now as just an ordinary city man, killing was not an option. Thus, he restrained his power, temporarily incapacitating them instead.

This time, they had gathered enough evidence, definitely ensuring these people couldn’t escape; natural justice would take its course, so why should he bother going further and create trouble for himself?

James Brown led Helen Wilson and Emily Jenkins zigzagging, quickly losing those chasing thugs, then they took a taxi straight to Helen Wilson’s house.

When Helen Wilson arrived at her home, she gulped down two large glasses of water to calm herself down. She then took out the surveillance devices. Seeing that they were intact, she breathed a sigh of relief and then fixed a piercing gaze on James Brown.

James Brown chuckled and asked, "Why are you looking at me like that?"

Helen Wilson grabbed James Brown by the collar furiously and said, "You’re so capable, why did you keep it a secret from me?"

James Brown lifted his head proudly and replied, "I’ve always been capable. Remember that day at the bar? I took down seven or eight thugs by myself. Didn’t you know about that?"

"I knew about that, but this time we were facing thugs with military daggers. How can you compare them with those street thugs? With so many of them, I can’t even imagine how we could have gotten out safe."

James Brown said with confusion, "Were they that formidable? I didn’t feel like they were much of a threat at all. Maybe... my cosmos exploded?"

Helen Wilson didn’t believe James Brown’s explanation. She thought she knew him well, but now she discovered that there were still many things about him she did not know.

"Ah!" A sudden scream from behind them startled both James Brown and Helen Wilson, who turned to look at Emily Jenkins, only to see her face pale and tears streaming down her cheeks.

"Emily, what’s wrong?" James Brown quickly sat next to Emily Jenkins, checking her body carefully, but she didn’t seem to be injured.

"Big Brother Brown!" Emily Jenkins turned to look at James Brown, then suddenly threw herself into his arms, holding his waist tightly and sobbing loudly.

James Brown patted Emily Jenkins’ back, smiling and saying, "It’s okay now, no need to be scared anymore."

"Big Brother Brown, it’s all my fault. If I hadn’t called out to you guys randomly, we wouldn’t have faced this danger. I’m so sorry."

If it hadn’t been for Emily Jenkins, James Brown and Helen Wilson would indeed have completed the mission perfectly, but blaming Emily Jenkins now was useless, especially since she was already terrified. Stroking her hair, he spoke softly, "It’s nothing, we completed our mission anyway. It was just a minor mishap at the end, which really didn’t affect our plans."

"Really?" Emily Jenkins immediately looked up at James Brown with a hopeful face.

"Of course it’s true. When has Big Brother Brown ever lied to you?" James Brown asked with a smile.

"Never, Big Brother Brown has never lied to me." Emily Jenkins immediately cheered up, and in her excitement, she suddenly leaned in and kissed James Brown on the face.

"Hey, hey, isn’t that a bit too exciting?" James Brown managed a laugh.

Emily Jenkins was just that kind of carefree person. Given that James Brown had taken the blame off of her, she believed she was not at fault and chuckled, "Well, Emma isn’t here anyway, so a kiss doesn’t matter, does it?"

James Brown was speechless. Emma might not be here, but Helen Wilson certainly was; it’s not like she could be treated as non-existent. He gave an awkward laugh and said, "You are really outrageous. Alright, rest here for a while; I need to talk to Officer Monaghan."

"Sure, go ahead, I won’t interrupt," said Emily Jenkins, suddenly seeming very obedient.

James Brown and Helen Wilson exchanged glances, then both entered the bedroom and closed the door. Helen Wilson immediately folded her arms and glared at James Brown fiercely, saying, "Wow, another flight attendant to your list."

James Brown hastily said, "There’s nothing between us, you saw, she just kissed me unconsciously, I didn’t react at all."

"Hmm, you say that, but if you dare have any ideas about her, I’ll..." As Helen Wilson spoke, she made a scissor sign with her fingers and gestured between James Brown’s legs.

James Brown instinctively clenched his legs together, chuckling bitterly, "Can’t we be less violent?"

Helen Wilson ignored him, pacing around and saying, "Now that they’ve discovered us, we need to quickly hand over this evidence. Otherwise, if they run away first, catching them won’t be easy."

At that moment, James Brown rubbed his nose and added, "It’s not whether they will run or not that worries me now. What I’m afraid of is... the higher-ups might come after us first, to prevent us from posing a threat to them."

Helen Wilson was startled; she hadn’t thought about this issue before, but what James Brown said was entirely possible. This smuggling ring had deep connections. Now that they knew they were about to be exposed, would those involved resort to drastic measures?

"Thump, thump!" Just then, the sound of someone knocking on the security door rang out. Helen Wilson and James Brown shared a look, both revealing a bitter smile.
