The Supreme Soldier in the City -
Chapter 277 - 284: Save You
Chapter 277: Chapter 284: Save You
Christopher Taylor waved his hand dismissively, not wanting to appear ungracious in front of Lucy Campbell, although he was already a soaked mess without any grace left, he said sternly, "James Brown, do you realize if I hadn’t saved you, you would be dead by now."
James found a cigarette on the speedboat, lit it, took a puff, immediately frowned and tossed it, having gotten used to the cigarettes provided by Lucy Campbell, he found other cigarettes uncomfortable now. He glanced at Christopher Taylor and retorted, "Seems like I’m on this speedboat, I don’t need your rescue, do I?"
His words instantly infuriated Christopher Taylor, who angrily said, "You... that’s my speedboat."
"Really? Is your name on the speedboat’s registration?"
"Nonsense, I rented it."
"Then why aren’t you on this speedboat but went to that one?"
"You..."
Christopher Taylor was so angered by James that his face turned livid, but still mindful of his image, he roared, "Get off, or don’t blame me for being rude!"
"Well, I’d like to see how you’ll be rude to me."
Christopher Taylor, by then, had lost his rationality due to his anger, suddenly pushed aside the driver of his speedboat—he could pilot it too—and throttled the engine, directing his speedboat towards James’s.
People around instantly screamed in fear, and while James could dodge, he wasn’t in a rush and didn’t even plan to. He instantly powered his speedboat and went head-on against Christopher Taylor’s.
With a dull "boom," the boats collided, soared from the water, and then capsized into the sea.
At the moment of impact, James had already leapt into the water, while Christopher Taylor and the others on board were thrown into the water, sprawling in disarray.
When James surfaced, he was already beside Lucy Campbell, laughed heartily, and said, "I’m done playing with you guys, have fun!" Saying so, he grabbed the lifebuoy and started swimming away with Lucy.
Meanwhile, Christopher Taylor’s group, in their panic, couldn’t bother with him; they were busy pulling Christopher and a few others back onto a speedboat. By then, James and Lucy had disappeared without a trace.
"My speedboat!" Two drivers, now rescued, lamented their boats that had sunk to the bottom of the sea. Speedboats aren’t cheap, and theirs was their livelihood. The sudden sinking left them in absolute despair.
"It’s all your fault for crashing, you owe us a speedboat," both men demanded from Christopher Taylor.
Christopher Taylor’s face turned green with anger and shouted, "Stop yelling, they’re just two broken speedboats. I’ll reimburse you. Now, chase that kid down!"
The attendants with Christopher Taylor promptly reassured the boat owners of his identity and promised compensation. This appeased them somewhat, and the remaining two speedboats, albeit overloaded, could still operate, though much slower and unable to speed up for fear of overturning.
After they swam away, Lucy Campbell recalled the incident and couldn’t help but giggle, saying, "James Brown, you really are quite wicked."
James, now backstroking while facing Lucy, grinned and responded, "With such people, you can’t be polite. You’ve got to sort them out right away."
Lucy nodded in agreement, "Putting people in their place like that is indeed quite fun."
As they chatted, Christopher Taylor’s two speedboats quickly caught up since James and Lucy hadn’t swum far. Following their direction, the boats easily spotted them.
"James Brown, I’m going to kill you, crash into them!" Christopher Taylor, seeing the two, immediately roared, not even caring about Lucy Campbell’s presence at that moment. He thought, a beautiful woman lost can be replaced, but such humiliation must be avenged, or he would die from his anger.
Lucy turned around and indeed saw a speedboat madly rushing towards them, her face paled, she urgently said, "He really wants to crash and kill us."
James chuckled, "Then it seems, we’ll definitely need to dive underwater for a bit."
Lucy Campbell’s eyes flashed with an excitement hard to notice, and she said with a hint of grievance, "It seems we can only do it this way." As she spoke, she had already twisted her body and plunged into the water.
James Brown quickly untied the rope around his waist and submerged into the water, grabbing Lucy Campbell’s hand. The two of them dived deeper together. The sea was remarkably clear; James Brown looked back and saw their lifebuoy flying up at that moment. If Lucy Campbell had been on the lifebuoy, she might have been severely injured.
Lucy Campbell saw all this too, her complexion turned rather ugly. She was not unfamiliar with danger, facing either cruel criminals or special agents from rival countries, but she had never encountered such peril within her own country. Moreover, that the danger came from a Deputy County Chief made her feel a strong urge to kill for the first time.
Christopher Taylor saw James Brown and Lucy Campbell dive into the water just before he hit the lifebuoy. The speedboat immediately turned around and ominously watched the surface, ready to slam into them at the sight of James Brown and Lucy Campbell.
"Keep your eyes open, don’t let this kid get onto the speedboat. Today, we’ll play him to death," Christopher Taylor thought to himself and couldn’t help but burst into laughter, imagining James Brown exhausted and drowning.
Although James Brown could stay submerged a bit longer, it was indeed impossible to stay in the water for much longer, especially for Lucy Campbell, who could only stay submerged for half a minute before she started to struggle.
James Brown had to bring her to the surface.
"We found them, over here!" Someone immediately spotted the two and shouted loudly.
Christopher Taylor immediately steered the speedboat towards James Brown. Due to the distance and needing to adjust the course, James Brown and Lucy Campbell easily dived back into the water again.
This back-and-forth continued several times, entertaining Christopher Taylor greatly while his accomplices laughed endlessly. It was fun tormenting someone like this, and spurred on by Christopher Taylor’s stooge, another speedboat also began aiming at James Brown, not letting him surface.
James Brown and Lucy Campbell dodged the speedboats again, and underwater Lucy Campbell made a few hand signals at James Brown. He understood she was saying this couldn’t go on, and signaled back, pointing at the speedboats above.
Lucy Campbell wasn’t sure what James Brown meant but still nodded quickly. Whatever James Brown was planning, she would trust him unconditionally.
After a while, James Brown and Lucy Campbell surfaced again. Christopher Taylor and his gang immediately rushed over with bizarre excitement.
James Brown and Lucy Campbell immediately dived again, but his time when they went under not too far, James Brown let go of Lucy Campbell’s hand, and with a forceful kick, surged towards the speedboat above.
Lucy Campbell, startled, steadied herself, amazed to see James Brown in under the water moving as swiftly as the speedboat, catching up to it and clinging onto the speedboat, though its purpose was unknown to her.
Lucy Campbell hurriedly followed James Brown; she knew not to stray too far from him. But James Brown was slow this time; it took nearly a minute before he swam back to her.
At that moment, Lucy Campbell felt she might not last much longer, the lack of oxygen causing her a stifling sensation and dizziness. As soon as James Brown grabbed her hand, she wrapped her arms around his waist and pressed her lips against his.
James Brown quickly opened his mouth, passing some air to Lucy Campbell. With his robust constitution, his lung capacity was extraordinary; usually, he could stay underwater for three minutes, and with difficulty, withstand up to five minutes. Typically during stealth operations he’d use a snorkel.
Having received the oxygen, Lucy Campbell felt much relieved, her vision also returned to normal. Underwater, she looked at James Brown with a slight reproachful affection.
James Brown awkwardly smiled, leaned back, and their lips parted.
Lucy Campbell felt a bit embarrassed; she hadn’t proactively detached from James Brown’s lips, perhaps urgently needing oxygen or perhaps just enjoying the sensation.
James Brown pointed to the surface, then pulled Lucy Campbell as they swam upwards. They had just taken a breath when two speedboats came charging again.
James Brown repeated the process, dodging under the speedboat and letting go of Lucy Campbell, quickly catching up to one. This time, Lucy Campbell, now familiar, directly followed James Brown under the water; he gave her oxygen when he returned.
After about ten times, James Brown and Lucy Campbell were working extremely synchronously with each breath Lucy Campbell took from James Brown intoxicating her. Every time James Brown submerged and their lips met, she felt a spark of excitement.
As they dodged another speedboat attack, James Brown didn’t let go of Lucy Campbell but pulled her directly in one direction, leaving Lucy Campbell a bit surprised and a little disappointed. This meant no more gasps for air and no more kissing with James Brown.
