Chapter 262: Chapter 268: An Unexpected Encounter

James Brown flicked his head and hurriedly said, "I’ve already come back, I’m at the Wilson Residence now."

Gina Lopez immediately switched her tone and said, "How are things going? You didn’t run into any danger, did you?"

From Gina Lopez’s words, James Brown could feel a sense of concern which made him feel good, and he chuckled, "No danger encountered. Everything went smoothly, we will be able to pick up the goods the day after tomorrow."

"Oh, does that mean it’s over?"

"No, we still have to keep going. That’s how we’ll catch the bigger fish."

"You’re still going to do it?" There was a hint of worry in Gina Lopez’s voice, and she immediately added, "Do you guys still have that much funding available?"

True to form as a CEO, she immediately touched on the crucial point. James Brown glanced at Helen Wilson and said with a bitter smile, "Where would we have that money? I’m considering whether to sell the goods or not."

Gina Lopez gasped, "That won’t do. How about this, I still have some money on hand, I’ll give it to you guys to use for now."

"That won’t work, if we don’t sell our goods, the other party will become suspicious."

"Then what should we do?"

"Don’t worry, I can handle it."

"If you have any trouble, you must tell me."

"Alright."

After hanging up the phone, Helen Wilson curled her lips and said, "Why didn’t you accept it? I could definitely pay her back."

"Pay back what? If you don’t want to catch bigger fish, then anything goes. But if we do want to, then we have to sell the goods. I’ll contact some friends later and deal with this batch of goods."

Helen Wilson had also thought it through. To crack this case, one had to smuggle once, and she bit her lip, "Alright then, it’s all on you."

James Brown slapped Helen Wilson’s shoulder, "You just rest easy."

Helen Wilson grabbed James Brown’s arm, firmly stating, "You also rest easy, you absolutely won’t get implicated in this. In the end, you’ll still get your reward, I guarantee it."

James Brown gave a wry smile, "If I didn’t trust you, I wouldn’t dare do it, but... can I keep a little of the money we make this time?"

"No way!" Helen Wilson immediately said unequivocally, "Don’t even think about it, otherwise, you really would be involved in smuggling."

"Stubborn." James Brown gave Helen Wilson a disdainful look, "Then, I’m leaving."

"Leaving? If we close the deal and then vanish, what would that look like? Wouldn’t that make the other party suspicious? We’ll stay together these next couple of days. Didn’t your wife already approve?"

James Brown immediately waved his hand, "Stop, Gina Lopez is not my wife."

"Is that so... But she really seems to care about you. I think she’s not bad, a CEO, and not only pretty but also rich, hard to find even with a lantern."

James Brown chuckled, "We are just walking different paths, can’t even pee in the same pot, and I’ve got a girlfriend now, you know that. Besides, even if I didn’t have a girlfriend, I’d choose you over her."

Helen Wilson felt quite good about that remark, thinking she was somehow more significant in James Brown’s heart than Gina Lopez, but her expression soured immediately as she glared at James Brown, "From what you’re saying, neither Gina Lopez nor I are up to your standards?"

James Brown let out a dry laugh, "It’s not that you’re not good, it’s just that you’re not right for me. I prefer a gentle and soft girl like Emma."

"Please!" Helen Wilson scoffed at James Brown, "You like her, so why are you getting entangled with others?"

"Are you talking about you and me?"

"Get lost, I know exactly where we stand. Once this case is cracked, you do you, and I do me... Oh, I mean we’re just friends, nothing more."

James Brown grinned, "Then I’m relieved. So, my little lover, where shall we go for fun? Should we get a room, or should we go shopping?"

Helen Wilson gave James Brown a glare, "A woman’s favorite thing must be shopping, so let’s go shopping."

James Brown could only agree, after all, browsing through shops with a beauty wasn’t a bad way to pass the time.

The pair arrived at the biggest mall in YODC City, with Helen Wilson linking arms with James Brown, her chest brushing against his arm from time to time. This made James Brown quite uncomfortable, and he whispered, "Look, there’s nobody else around now, do you really have to do this?"

Helen Wilson was very serious as she said, "How do you know that people from there aren’t here? I’m afraid our pictures have already been spread around on their side. Even if they’re not tracking us on purpose, it would be very easy to have problems if they happen to see us. Besides, do you really lose out this way?"

"I’m not losing out; I’m overwhelmed. Big sis, you’re a beauty, you know. Being so close to me, it’s making me have thoughts."

Helen Wilson’s gaze subconsciously glanced at James Brown’s pants, where she saw no sign of a tent, spit in his direction, and said, "How come I never notice that couples who get together like this all have thoughts?"

"That’s not a lack of thoughts; it just means the thoughts aren’t strong or the attractiveness of the woman by their side isn’t enough."

Helen Wilson felt a bit smug inside. Since she was holding onto James Brown, she actually found shopping with him to be very enjoyable, otherwise, she wouldn’t have been so relaxed and natural.

The two browsed for a while and unexpectedly saw John Smith. This guy was with a woman, dressed quite fashionably, but her taste was rather questionable. It seemed that after closing a deal, the lad must have earned a hefty bonus, so he took a woman out to show off his style.

"Mr. Lee, sis-in-law, what a coincidence," said John Smith. Today, he was more enthusiastic about John Brown, approaching with the woman, "Hurry and greet them."

The woman immediately greeted them with a voice that could send a shiver down one’s spine, "Hello Mr. Lee, hello sis-in-law."

John Brown laughed and said, "What a coincidence, are you guys also out shopping?"

"Mr. Lee, let me be your guide, I’ll definitely show you some good stuff."

John Brown had no way to refuse and readily agreed. However, John Smith seemed to have the ulterior motive of wanting to mooch off James Brown as he kept dragging James to high-end stores.

Unfortunately, other than the remaining seven hundred thousand, James Brown and Helen Wilson didn’t have any extra money. So while they strolled through the shops, the two had no intention of buying anything, especially items that easily cost tens of thousands.

"Honey, I don’t like this item."

"This doesn’t look like the real deal."

"Forget it, why don’t you take me to H Region and buy it there, okay?"

Of course, they couldn’t reveal that they had no money to purchase anything, so Helen Wilson started to be very picky. Regardless of the item, she just didn’t like it, which made John Smith quite frustrated. He had hoped that James Brown would buy something for Helen Wilson, and he could benefit from it, but now with Helen Wilson not buying, John Smith couldn’t possibly expect James Brown to buy something for him.

"Honey, I’m thirsty, let’s find a place to have a drink," said Helen Wilson, latching onto James Brown’s arm with a bit of an exaggerated gulp.

"Alright, let’s go get some water." James Brown cheekily pinched Helen Wilson’s face, as at this time, whatever James did to Helen would have to be met with enjoyment on her part, she couldn’t get angry, especially since that night, they stayed over at the karaoke place, and James took advantage of her, which Helen didn’t take seriously at all now.

At the eating area of the mall, Helen Wilson was again choosy, finally selecting a drink that cost over three hundred dollars for four glasses. That kind of expense was something James Brown and Helen Wilson could afford, but spending that much on a beverage was indeed a bit lavish.

While sipping their drinks, the four chatted away. James Brown and Helen Wilson did not want to stick with John Smith, but he seemed to insist on tagging along, as if he wouldn’t leave without gaining some benefit. The four of them sat there with their own thoughts, nursing a glass of water for quite a long time.

Emma Campbell didn’t have classes this afternoon, and she really hoped that James Brown would call her today. But knowing that he’s been busy lately, she managed to refrain from disturbing him.

As she sat in the dormitory with a book in hand, all she could think about was James Brown. Her roommate Sarah Johnson then said with a smile, "What, missing your boyfriend?"

"Not at all," blushed Emma Campbell immediately.

Sarah Johnson chuckled, pointing at Emma’s cheeks, saying, "Emma, you really can’t lie. Just look in the mirror at your face, at your eyes - full of the glow of spring, you’re obviously smitten with love, and yet you say you’re not thinking about him."

Another roommate, Emily Clarke, said with a hint of teasing, "Emma, if you miss your boyfriend that much, why don’t you go see him?"

Emma Campbell was even more embarrassed. Now, all of her roommates knew about her having a boyfriend, so she had to softly say, "He’s busy with work; I can’t bother him."

Sarah Johnson was a very outgoing girl and had a good relationship with Emma. She patted Emma on the shoulder, saying, "Emma, I actually don’t approve of you dating someone off-campus. It’s too easy to be deceived when you don’t know much about the situation."

"No, no, Big Brother Brown would never deceive me," insisted Emma Campbell, shaking her head vigorously, her face flushed red.

Seeing Emma anxious, Sarah Johnson and Emily Clarke exchanged looks, showing a bit of helplessness. Emily Clarke then said, "Emma, you’ve been dating for so long, why haven’t you brought him here to meet us sisters?"

Emma Campbell pursed her lips, saying, "Next time I go, I’ll ask Big Brother Brown when he’s free, and have him treat you all to a meal."

"Sounds good," said Sarah Johnson. "Let’s go out for a walk; I need to buy something."

Emily Clarke immediately agreed, "Yeah, I’m free too. Let’s all go out. Emma, stop reading; you can’t focus anyway."

Emma hesitated for a moment, then agreed. The three of them left the school and started browsing the mall. After walking for quite a while and getting thirsty, they decided to get a drink.

When they arrived at the food court, Emma glanced around and suddenly saw James Brown, her face lighting up with happiness and getting ready to walk over. But after just two steps, she suddenly stopped, her complexion turning deathly pale.
