Chapter 251: Chapter 255: Having Friends

The phone calls seem to be plentiful today. No sooner had Emma Campbell hung up than James Brown’s cell phone rang again. It was a call from Helen Wilson. James Brown casually answered the call, and Helen Wilson’s annoyed voice came through immediately: "James Brown, you ass, I’m starving to death."

James Brown was stunned for a moment, a sense of frustration washing over him. In the busyness of today’s events, he had forgotten about Helen Wilson - he hadn’t gone over after work, and since Wilson was still healing at home with limited mobility, missing this day meant he hadn’t taken care of her, and she probably hadn’t eaten yet.

"I had too much going on at the office today, and I’ve only just finished. I’ll be right over."

"You ass, you definitely forgot about me."

"Hehe, how could I? How could I forget about you? Wait for me, I’ll be there in less than twenty minutes."

After James Brown ended the call, he quickly donned his clothes and dashed out of the house, then picked up some fast food before heading to Helen Wilson’s place.

Helen Wilson was lying on the bed inside the room, wearing pajamas on top and covered with a towel blanket on the bottom. She turned her head to glare at James Brown, but it seemed rather weak.

James Brown sat down beside Helen Wilson and swiftly set up the fast food, saying, "Hungry, huh? Eat quickly."

Helen Wilson humphed without saying much, picked up the chopsticks, and began eating. Having been preoccupied with arguing with James Brown in the morning, she hadn’t eaten much, and now it had gotten to this point. How could she not be hungry? She wouldn’t have called him if she hadn’t been desperately hungry.

After wolfing down the fast food James Brown had brought, Helen Wilson drank some water, finally feeling content, and said, "What kind of care is this? You don’t bring me lunch and even skip out on dinner."

James Brown chuckled and replied, "I wanted you to understand the importance of food. Look at you, you just threw away those delicious meat buns this morning so carelessly. I bet you won’t be wasting food again after being hungry like this."

"Get lost." Helen Wilson rolled her eyes at James Brown. Actually, she wasn’t really angry. After all, James was just a friend, and she hadn’t helped him with anything. On the contrary, she kept asking for his help, and James put up with her bad temper all the time, which was already quite something.

"Come on, let me change your dressing." To avoid further complaints from Helen Wilson, James reached to lift the towel from her backside.

Helen Wilson quickly pressed down her hand, saying, "Do we really need to change it? It’s already scabbed over."

"I still need to check it, do you want to keep lying in bed forever?"

"Well... okay then." After saying that, Helen Wilson buried her face in her palms. She was the most embarrassed at times like these, having a man look at her butt was definitely awkward.

James Brown lifted the towel blanket, first startled to find that Helen Wilson wasn’t wearing anything underneath—it was all bare. He chuckled, "Now, why aren’t you wearing anything? Are you trying to let me have a peek on purpose?"

"Go to hell!" Helen Wilson immediately became furiously embarrassed, stretching out her hand to fiercely pinch James Brown’s thigh.

James Brown yelped in pain and quickly jumped up, exclaiming, "That hurt! You didn’t have to pinch so hard."

"Who asked you to spout such nonsense? The wound just scabbed over, and wearing clothes would rub against it and be excruciatingly painful. How could I wear anything?"

"I was just joking with you, how could I not understand?" James Brown sat back down, smiling again, and carefully inspected the wound. Indeed, it had scabbed over and didn’t seem to be a major issue. Also, Helen Wilson had not worn pants during the day, which allowed air to the wound and was beneficial for healing. After applying some antiseptic to the wound, he pulled the towel blanket back over her.

Of course, while doing all this, James Brown’s gaze couldn’t help but stealthily drift to some of Helen Wilson’s more private areas. It wasn’t that he intended any harm to Helen Wilson, but as a man, he wouldn’t be a man if he didn’t look.

After the medication was applied, the two felt a bit awkward, and for a while, neither of them spoke.

"James Brown!"

"Officer Monaghan!"

It seemed both wanted to break the awkwardness and called out to each other simultaneously.

"You first!"

This was said in unison, and then they both erupted in laughter, immediately dispelling any feeling of awkwardness.

James Brown stopped laughing first and said, "You go ahead."

Helen Wilson nodded, "Today, I got a tip—soon, a large shipment is supposed to arrive in YODC City, so we have to act in the next few days. Otherwise, once they distribute this batch of goods, it would take us a while to make contact again."

"But what about your injury? Can you handle it?"

"Didn’t you see I didn’t wear pants all day? That’s because I want to heal faster."

"Alright, then you tell me when we move, and what should I do?"

"My plan is like this. Tomorrow night, we’ll meet with one of their people—an underboss. He doesn’t have much stock, so we’ll corner all his goods first. Unable to meet our demand, he’ll naturally link us up higher in the chain."

"Fine, but if we go together, what about our cover story?"

Helen Wilson bit her lip and gave James Brown an irritated look, "You’re a nouveau riche, and I’m your mistress."

"Mistress? Why not husband and wife?"

"Come on, who brings their wife along when doing this kind of business? That would be embarrassing."

"Oh, you sure think of everything." James Brown chuckled, his gaze teasingly on Helen Wilson.

Feeling uneasy from his look, Helen Wilson ground her teeth and said, "What’s with that look?"

James Brown blinked his eyes and said, "Since we’re lovers, shouldn’t you act like one? Lovers coo and act cutesy, can you do that?"

Helen Wilson raised an eyebrow and replied, "What’s so hard about that? I’ve already thought this through. I’ll show you right now."

"No way?" James Brown’s eyes widened in astonishment. Helen Wilson had actually considered that, which meant she was very meticulous indeed.

"Of course." Helen Wilson raised her neck proudly, then stretched out her arms, with a seductive look in her eyes, Amy’s voice said, "Honey, pick me up."

James Brown instantly felt goosebumps all over his body, quickly sidestepped, and stared at her saying, "Can’t you speak normally? I can’t handle this."

Helen Wilson immediately straightened her face and said, "Is my acting not good? Doesn’t it resemble a lover?"

James Brown rubbed his arms repeatedly before responding, "It’s not that you don’t resemble one, you are too convincing. But you never act like this with me, so it gives me goosebumps."

Helen Wilson said with a stern face, "Then you must get used to it. What kind of wealthy man with a mistress wouldn’t like her to act cutesy? Besides, you’re playing a nouveau riche, a rather silly guy. You should like this even more."

"I’m dizzy, I have to act silly too? That’s really challenging."

"How else are they going to think you’re an easy mark and feel you’re the right person for this, if they don’t see you as that kind?"

"You do make a good point. Well... I’ll try to get used to it," James Brown said with a bitter face, apprehensively sitting on the edge of the bed, ready to take off at any moment.

"Move in a bit. Am I that scary?" Helen Wilson felt somewhat helpless.

"You’re not scary; you’re terrifying."

"Go to hell!" Helen Wilson pinched James Brown hard, glaring at him.

James Brown chuckled and said, "That’s better, it’s more like you."

"You... you really are a masochist," Helen Wilson said, almost speechless.

"Alright, alright, I’ll try to get used to it." James Brown took a deep breath with an air of noble sacrifice.

Although Helen Wilson had been practicing how to coo at James Brown at home today, she was still very nervous facing him. However, seeing James lying there looking so miserable eased her tension and shyness. Now, her biggest worry was James messing up the act.

So, she began cooing with ease, and even repeatedly corrected James’s mistakes.

"Hey, when I lie on your legs, can you not be so stiff? Relax, I mean, come on big guy, you should enjoy a beauty lying on your lap!" Helen Wilson rested on James Brown’s legs, frustrated with his tense reaction.

"I remember the first time we met you wanted to take advantage of me. Why are you acting like a virgin now?"

James Brown forced a laugh and said, "Times change. Plus, I did want to take advantage of you, and now I have to infiltrate Places and Addresses too. How can I relax?"

Helen Wilson thought for a moment and agreed. It was a dangerous situation, so it was normal for James to be nervous. She softened her tone and said, "Don’t be nervous, I’ll ensure your safety."

"And you can ensure your own safety?"

"Of course, I’m not just a deputy director anymore; I’m the director. If a real danger emerges, I can mobilize my team for backup, or I’ll just stop the covert investigation." Helen Wilson handed James Brown Calming Pills.

"Really?"

"Absolutely true."

James Brown finally relaxed and said, "Since you’ve said so, I’m relieved."

"Good, you should be. Let’s try again, honey..."

James Brown shivered again, but at least he didn’t stiffen up this time, which was enough to satisfy Helen Wilson. She continued, "Relax, that’s right, and when you have a lover in your arms, you have to move a little, you know?"

"I have to move?" James Brown looked down at Helen Wilson, his eyes wide.

"Of course, you can’t keep your hands still. I’m your lover, aren’t you supposed to touch me?"

"Touch as well?" James Brown exclaimed.

"Damn right! I don’t understand why you’re scared when I’m letting you touch me for free."

"I’m... I’m worried about repercussions from you."

"I won’t hold it against you later; just touch me."

"You mean it?" James Brown raised his hand, which was trembling.

"Are you even a man?" Helen Wilson was practically fuming, grabbed his hand firmly, pulled it down to her face, and shouted, "Touch me!"

"Yes, sir!" James Brown shuddered, his fingers spread out, his palm as stiff as a fan.

"You..." Helen Wilson was on the verge of exploding; she took a deep breath gritting her teeth to prevent a meltdown and softly instructed, "Touch, like you did with those other women before. Don’t think of me as Helen Wilson; pretend I’m one of your past lovers, yes, that’s it. Hey, where are you touching?"
