Chapter 239: Chapter 241 Taking Care of Helen Wilson

James didn’t dodge the responsibility either. He’s pretty good friends with Joan, and he couldn’t just stand by when a friend needed help. Especially when this favor was quite titillating. Whenever he was with Gina Lopez, Emily Lopez, and Sarah Utah, he always held some reservations, worried that they might take the fun too far and he wouldn’t be able to handle it.

But it was different with Joan. Although she no longer looked down on him like before, she clearly didn’t have those kinds of feelings for him. At best, they were just friends who could talk, and emotionally, Joan still despised him a lot. So no matter what happened with Joan, James wasn’t worried that she would cling to him.

Just then, Joan’s phone rang. Upon seeing the number, she whispered to James, "It’s my mom’s call. She’s been calling me every day for the past few days, and she even wanted you to listen in, but we’ve never caught you available, and it’s starting to drive me crazy."

James chuckled, "Then it’s perfect to have a chat today and help you maintain the lie."

Joan nodded and then answered the call. After a few words, she handed the phone to James, saying, "James, my mom wants to talk to you."

Taking the phone, James politely greeted her, then started chatting with Joan’s mother.

Appeasing the elderly was something James was quite adept at. At this moment, he spoke sweetly and engagingly, making Joan’s mother very happy. Of course, when it came to specifics like buying a house, James was consistent with Joan’s version, saying they were still looking. As for the marriage certificate, he claimed they hadn’t obtained it due to an urgent business trip he had had a few days ago, but they would pick an auspicious day soon to get it.

"James, you guys have a computer, right? Let’s talk over video, it’ll save some phone charges."

James quickly agreed, "Sure, I’ll go start the computer right now."

After ending the call, Joan frowned and said, "Why did you agree to video call with my mom?"

"What choice did I have?" James retorted to Joan.

With a pained expression, Joan said, "But I’m injured right now. If my mom sees this, she will definitely come over, and then we’ll really be in trouble."

James grinned slyly and assured, "No worries, I’ll make sure she doesn’t notice anything."

"How are you going to manage that?"

James leaned in and whispered something into Joan’s ear, causing her to glare fiercely at him. However, she soon resignedly said, "Then you better get ready quickly."

James laughed heartedly and hurriedly ran to the bedroom to retrieve Joan’s laptop. After booting it up, he picked up Joan and made her sit half on his lap, his legs opened to keep her injured part from touching the wound, making her extremely embarrassed.

"I warn you, no funny business," Joan said to James, feeling weak all over as this was her first time being so intimate with a man, especially with her lower body undressed, which added to the ambiguity.

James gave a wry smile, "Given your state, how could I possibly do anything bad? How beastly do you think I am?"

"You’re already quite beastly," Joan shot a glance at James but felt slightly more relaxed, remembering how she once got drunk and stayed at James’s house, and he hadn’t done anything inappropriate to her. She believed he wouldn’t do anything now either.

"Alright, let’s talk about whether I’m a beast or not later. Shouldn’t you log onto QQ now? Your mom must be getting worried."

Joan then took the laptop, logged onto QQ, and immediately received a video call invitation. With a glance at James, she gritted her teeth and answered the call.

"What are you guys doing?" appeared Joan’s parents on the screen, her father standing behind while her mother sat in front of the computer, her face filled with astonishment.

Blushing, Joan said, "It’s nothing, was it you who insisted on video calling?"

Her mother, somewhat amused yet exasperated, noticed the towel wrapped around her daughter, clearly indicating the young couple had just been intimate. She then said, "Okay, okay, we can chat another time. You young people, really."

Joan, despite being shy, quickly seized the moment to say, "It’s alright, mom, I still need to update you on our progress with house hunting."

"Now’s not the time, enough, go do what you need to, and we’ll come over to see the house when you’ve picked one."

"Alright then."

As Joan finished speaking, the other party had already ended the video call. Her parents were a bit overwhelmed by how young people showed affection, they knew too much. But clearly, they understood Joan and James were very close.

Joan breathed a sigh of relief, shut down the computer, and turned to James, asking, "Haven’t you held me long enough?"

James immediately protested, "I’m just trying to help, okay?"

"Humph, just you? Don’t think I don’t know what you’re thinking. The first time I saw you, you played weak to take advantage of me, and I haven’t settled that score with you yet."

James suddenly felt guilty, smiling bitterly, "We agreed to let bygones be bygones, didn’t we? You can’t just change your mind after crossing the river."

Joan snorted, "I might not mention it, but the image I have of you in my mind isn’t going anywhere. So naturally, I think you’re just trying to take advantage of me."

"Yet you still let me? Are you silly? Haha... I get it, you must have fallen for me, letting me take advantage deliberately."

"Go die!" Joan fiercely bit towards James Brown’s shoulder.

James Brown, already prepared, quickly blocked her forehead with his hand, and said grinning, "Don’t be fierce, I was just kidding."

"If you dare to make such jokes again, I’ll bite you to death." Joan gritted her teeth and threatened James, but at this moment, she was relying on him to take care of her and didn’t dare to do much to him.

It was already getting dark. James Brown said to Joan, "It’s getting late, you should rest early. I’m going to head back."

"Go on, go on, I was tired of you anyway." Joan waved her hand.

James chuckled, picked up Joan, and walked toward the bedroom.

"What are you doing?" Joan screamed in fright.

"What else could I do in the bedroom? Go to bed of course." James replied cheerfully.

This time Joan wasn’t annoyed. She just gave James a disdainful look and said, "You really can’t spit anything good from a dog’s mouth. If you speak nicely, I might even thank you, but with what you just said, I can only despise you."

"Despise me then, I’m used to your contempt. Without it, I couldn’t stand it."

When James was with Joan, he loved to spout nonsense like this, making this policewoman furious, and he found a lot of joy in it.

After placing Joan on the bed, James turned to leave but hesitated and said, "Are you sure you’ll be okay alone after I leave?"

"What’s not okay with me? It’s just a small injury, just a scratch. Don’t see me as so fragile, remember, I’m still a cop."

"It’s exactly because I’m afraid you’ll overdo it that I’m worried." James shook his head, "Alright, alright, I’ll stay a bit longer and take care of you, madam, for a few more minutes."

"Who needs your care? I’m not crippled."

"You need to be able to use your limbs for that. You still have a butt; show me you can sit down now."

"You..." Joan was choked up.

"Haha... Just rest, I’ll clean up the bathroom first. Otherwise, if you hurt the other half of your butt later, although it would be balanced, you won’t be able to move even more."

"It’s you who will hurt the other half of your butt."

"If I hurt the other half, then we would be a perfect match, haha..."

"Get lost!"

James laughed and went to the bathroom to clean up the broken glass on the floor, then threw a towel to Joan.

Joan was quite satisfied with James’ care and was grateful for his attentiveness, but if it were someone else, Joan would certainly say some polite words. However, with James, she never spoke nicely, "The towel is so cold, you need to fix that."

James immediately nodded in agreement, "I’ll correct it next time, I’ll heat it up next time so hot it could singe pig hairs."

"You’re the pig." Joan felt very frustrated. Every time she quarreled with James, she lost; this guy was simply her nemesis.

"By the way, do you need to use the bathroom again?" James asked again.

"No need!" Joan answered immediately without hesitation.

"If you don’t need to, then I’m leaving. Remember to sleep face-down tonight so that you can scab over and at least do some light activities tomorrow." After saying that, James turned and walked towards the door.

But just as he reached the door, he heard Joan’s call, "Wait."

James returned to Joan’s bedroom, frowning, "What now? Can’t you say everything at once? It’s exhausting doing it this way."

Joan gritted her teeth, "I need to use the bathroom."

"I told you earlier, but you insisted on waiting until I was leaving to tell me." Muttering, James once again picked Joan up and carried her directly to the bathroom.
