Chapter 237: Chapter 239: Wilson Residence

Helen Wilson was left speechless by Sarah Utah’s words; indeed, there is no need for a reason to love someone—if you love them, you love them. However, in her heart, she believed that James Brown should not be with Sarah Utah. If he were with Sarah, then Sarah would surely end up getting hurt—this thought inexplicably popped up in Helen’s mind, but it couldn’t be used to persuade Sarah.

With a sigh, Helen Wilson forced a bitter smile and shook her head, saying, "Sarah, I don’t really want to persuade you anymore, but be careful when you’re with this guy. I’m quite familiar with him and I understand him very well. He already has plenty of women by his side, so why do you insist on getting involved in these muddy waters?"

Sarah Utah smiled sweetly and said, "Helen, you’ve seen it for yourself. If Big Brother Brown isn’t excellent, would so many girls like him? You say you’re very familiar with Big Brother Brown, but that means you don’t truly understand him. If you really understood him, then maybe, you might fall for him too."

"Me... fall for him?" Helen Wilson’s eyes widened in astonishment.

Sarah Utah let out a light laugh and said, "I’m just making a comparison with you. I certainly don’t want you to like him; that would mean another competitor for me."

"You... you’re really hopeless. Alright, alright, I won’t try to persuade you anymore. But don’t let him take advantage of you so easily."

A blush crept onto Sarah Utah’s face as she protested, "Helen, what nonsense are you spouting? Big Brother Brown is not that kind of person."

Helen Wilson finally gave up on trying to persuade Sarah Utah. While Sarah went to change clothes, Helen approached James Brown with a stern face, saying fiercely, "How did you sweet-talk Sarah into this?"

James Brown, having not heard Helen and Sarah’s conversation, replied with some confusion, "What do you mean by sweet-talk?"

"Do you know that Sarah really likes you now and wants to be with you?"

"I vaguely felt that was the case. So what? Does that concern you, Officer David Woods? Oh right, you’re now the precinct’s chief, heh, Chief Woods."

Helen Wilson glared at James Brown and said, "Stop beating around the bush. I’m asking you seriously—what are your intentions towards Sarah Utah? No joking around, be serious."

James Brown replied irritably, "That’s none of your business. I haven’t broken any laws."

"I’m talking to you as a friend, so answer me directly!" Helen Wilson stretched out her hands and pressed them against James Brown’s face to make him look at her straight on.

"Hey, hey, in public like this, are you trying to assault me?" James Brown was taken aback by Helen’s actions.

"Assault a pig? I wouldn’t assault you. Hurry up and answer."

"You have quite the taste," James Brown remarked, noticing Helen’s grim expression. He quickly added with a smile, "Alright, you don’t have to worry. I really have no intentions towards Sarah Utah. If you’re free, you could come by my place to check."

"Then you shouldn’t lead her on or go shopping with her. Doesn’t that make her think you’re interested in her?"

"Just because I did that indicates I’m interested? Fine, from now on, if she asks me out, I’ll firmly refuse, so she understands my stance."

"That’s more like it." Only then did Helen Wilson nod in satisfaction.

James Brown then turned to Helen with a grin and said, "You’re the chief now, aren’t you going to treat me to a meal?"

"Sure, that’s nothing. I have something to talk to you about anyway."

"No problem, then I expect a lavish meal tonight. One million dollars from a rich lady, not to be wasted."

"Don’t even think about that one million dollars. It’s from my parents."

"Heh heh, it’s for us, not just you. I have a share too."

"Get lost." Helen Wilson kicked James Brown, but she quickly realized that her tone was problematic. James had been helping her, yet she was always mean to him. She softened her voice and said, "Stop joking. Really, send Sarah home early later, and then come to my place. Make sure you come over soon."

"Alright, wasn’t it supposed to be a meal? Now it’s at your place?"

"I’ll buy some good food, and we’ll eat at home. Alright, I’m heading off. Sarah is coming out."

When Sarah Utah came out, she didn’t see Helen Wilson and asked James Brown, "Big Brother Brown, where’s Helen?"

James Brown cheerfully answered, "She left."

"Did she... say anything to you?"

James Brown smiled and said, "She warned me not to have designs on you."

Sarah’s face turned red as she protested, "Why would Helen say something like that?"

James Brown patted Sarah Utah’s shoulder and said, "She’s just looking out for you, knowing that I have a girlfriend but still fearing that I might have thoughts about you."

Sarah pursed her lips and was about to say something, but she held back in the end. What she really wanted to say was "Big Brother Brown, do you have any thoughts about me?" But she was afraid that if she asked, James Brown might really reject her, and then they might not even be able to be friends anymore.

"Alright, let’s go. Let’s continue our stroll." James Brown had already subtly expressed his intentions, which Sarah would hopefully understand.

But he ignored one thing, once a girl falls for someone, her brain often becomes much dumber than usual. Sarah was experiencing exactly that.

The two of them strolled around a bit more, and then James Brown said he had other things to do and couldn’t hang out any longer.

Although Sarah felt a bit disappointed, she didn’t make any further requests. Being able to go shopping with James Brown today and even buying a dress together had already made her very satisfied. She let James Brown take her home and bid him farewell.

James Brown went straight to Helen Wilson’s home. Helen Wilson had also just returned. After letting James Brown in, she pointed towards the kitchen and said, "Take a look for yourself, see if it’s enough for you to eat."

The kitchen was full of various seafood, large crabs, crawfish, and conches, quite abundant indeed. James Brown immediately nodded with satisfaction and said, "Not bad at all, Officer David Woods has really gone to some expense."

Helen Wilson rolled her eyes at James Brown and said, "You’re the boss now. I have to ask for your help, and if you feel like eating well, I don’t dare not to prepare."

"I should make it clear," James Brown said right away. "If it’s something I can do, I’ll help you. If I can’t, don’t count on me."

"Don’t worry, you can definitely do it." Helen Wilson quickly said, then pushed James Brown out of the kitchen. "You go and rest for a while, I’ll cook."

"You can cook?" James Brown looked at Helen Wilson doubtfully.

"What’s so hard about that? Just throw it all in a pot and boil it."

James Brown immediately rolled his eyes and said, "That’s wasting good food. You’d better go take a rest. Such nice ingredients shouldn’t be squandered by you."

Helen Wilson chuckled and said, "I almost forgot, your cooking is quite tasty, so I won’t be polite."

"Have you ever been polite to me?" James Brown said irritably, driving Helen Wilson out of the kitchen.

Half an hour later, the dining table was filled with seafood. Smelling the aroma, Helen Wilson couldn’t help but swallow her saliva and said, "You’re really good. No wonder so many women want to be with you. Just with these cooking skills alone, you can capture quite a few women’s hearts."

James Brown smiled and said, "Then I can’t cook for you in the future. If you take a liking to me, I’ll be in trouble."

"Get lost!" Helen Wilson roared, grabbing a crab and started feasting.

The crabs at this time weren’t very fat, and the meat inside wasn’t very full, but James Brown’s cooking skills were genuinely impressive. The crabs he made were still incredibly delicious, and the other dishes were also tantalizing, causing Helen Wilson to eat with juices all over her mouth and face without bothering to wipe them off.

It was indeed the first time James Brown had seen Helen Wilson enjoy food with such gusto. He couldn’t help but smile. This policewoman, due to her job, usually spoke quite aggressively, but she had a kind heart and a strong sense of justice. Now, she showed a childlike innocence, which made James Brown feel quite fond of her. Perhaps this was the most genuine Helen Wilson.

"I’m so full!" After eating, Helen Wilson sat on the sofa and patted her belly without any concern for image.

James Brown laughed and said, "Can you care a bit about your image? Patting your belly after eating is not very ladylike."

"In my own home, why should I act like a lady? Besides, have you ever seen a policewoman who is a lady?"

James Brown shook his head and said, "I only know one policewoman, so I haven’t seen any other."

"Get out of here." Helen Wilson felt she had been too casual in front of James Brown. She straightened her posture and said, "My mom and dad gave me one million dollars, and now they are so worried that you, this brat, might deceive me that they call me every day, asking if I’ve looked at the house, if I’ve gotten the marriage license."

"Whose fault is it for insisting on deceiving them? Wouldn’t there be no trouble if you didn’t deceive them?"

"It was your idea. Are you denying it now?" Helen Wilson said, giving James Brown a displeased look.

"Aren’t you the chief now? Can’t you just check directly?"

"Even a chief can’t do that. If I use the people from the department, the word will get out. So after thinking it over, it’s still up to us to handle it. Otherwise, I might as well return this one million dollars."

Helplessly, James Brown said, "I thought I could be free of this, but it seems like I’ll still have to stay on your thief boat."

Laughing lightly, Helen Wilson spoke proudly, "Once you board my thief boat, there’s no getting off. Pfft, I’m a police officer, what thief boat... I’m talking seriously. Stay a bit later tonight, and then we’ll video call my parents. Let them see that we are together."

Why did James Brown feel this was so familiar? He shook his head with a bitter smile and said, "You better do it early, or else if it’s too late, I might just stay here and not leave."

"You wouldn’t dare," Helen Wilson glared at James Brown, feeling somewhat uneasy inside. Alone with a man, even though she was a policewoman, she was still a woman after all. Besides, James Brown was quite skilled, and she wasn’t a match for him. If James Brown forced himself on her, she would definitely have no way to resist.

James Brown’s gaze swept over Helen Wilson, and, stroking his chin, he said, "Though the chest is a bit small, and the butt could use more meat, your face isn’t bad. In a police uniform, you must be very attractive. I’m really interested in you now."

Helen Wilson felt a chill from James Brown’s gaze, but his words deeply wounded her self-esteem. She angrily waved her fist at him and said, "You bastard, are you looking for trouble?"

James Brown laughed heartily and said, "I’m just joking with you. How would I dare touch you, the chief? Would I still be able to get by in YODC City if I did?"

Only then did Helen Wilson smile satisfactorily before she walked straight into the bathroom. But soon there was an exclamation from inside as if she had hurt herself. James Brown rushed over like an arrow, pulling open the shower door, and his eyes widened at the sight.
