Chapter 144: Chapter 144: So It Turns Out to Be

After a while, a voice came from the restroom, "James, come help me, I... can’t hold on anymore."

James Brown quickly pulled open the door and went in, only to see the twin sisters dressed in identical pajamas, completely indistinguishable from one another.

The one on the left said, "James, hurry up and help me with Emily, this girl is so heavy." Recognizing the tone, James knew this was Gina Lopez and hurried over to pick up the heavily slumbering Emily Lopez and brought her to her room, where she lay down with Sunny Nguyen. Seeing they were sleeping soundly, he assumed everything was fine and then James exited the room.

At this time, Gina was leaning against the restroom door, her eyes closed, seeming to also be quite drunk. James could only support her and said helplessly, "You shouldn’t drink if you can’t handle it. Feeling awful now, are you?"

"I’m not feeling bad, I’m happy inside," Gina said as she hugged James’s waist, her steps unsteady, leaning almost all her weight on him.

"Great, you’re happy, but I’ll be the one to suffer later, taking care of you three ladies," James shook his head, leading Gina to the bedroom, helping her sit on the bed and then lie down, and casually taking off her slippers.

After Gina lay down, she fell silent, breathing heavily in deep sleep. James went to tidy up the restroom, his face flushed upon seeing the clothes Gina and Emily had just changed out of, messily thrown on the washing machine—and on top, the underwear. It was unclear whether they had put on fresh underwear just now.

Gina was usually very careful with such things; James had never seen her unwashed underwear before. Seeing them now, and considering that the woman who had just worn those was lying on his bed—it would be strange for any man not to have thoughts.

James didn’t wash their clothes; if he had, Gina would have found it quite embarrassing the next day. So he acted as if he hadn’t seen anything, washed up, and went back to the bedroom.

Looking at Gina lying on the bed, her cheeks flushed from drinking and a large expanse of skin peeking out from her neckline, James felt a strong impulse to take advantage of the situation.

Fortunately, he had strong self-control, and even in such a moment, he could restrain himself. He took a deep breath and turned to switch off the light.

Climbing into bed, James was also quite tired. He closed his eyes, ready to fall asleep.

But before he could drift off, Gina suddenly rolled over to the middle of the bed, throwing her arm across his chest and mumbling, "James... I’m so hot."

James was taken aback and said, "I’ll get you a glass of water."

"I don’t want water, I want to drink more alcohol," Gina insisted, her head nestled over, resting on his shoulder.

"Hey... why haven’t you taken off your clothes?" Gina looked at James, her eyes drowsy.

Although the room was already warm, James was still in his pajamas. Normally, young men and women sharing a bed would not often sleep in pajamas. James didn’t want to either; he preferred to sleep bare-chested in just his underwear, but Gina wouldn’t have it.

"Take off my clothes?" James asked in surprise, looking at Gina. Drunk as she was, she was asking such a question—could it be a sign of feelings developed over the days they spent together, with Gina now expressing her feelings under the influence of alcohol?

Gina’s fingers lightly traced his chest as she cooed, "It’s more comfortable to take off your clothes."

James quickly pressed down on Gina’s hand, saying, "Emily, you’ve drunk too much."

"Have I really drunk too much?"

"You really have. Just sleep it off, and you’ll feel better."

There was a playful look in Gina’s eyes as she said, "You’re calling me... Emily?"

James suddenly had a realization, staring at Gina and finally understanding what was going on.

"Ha ha... I knew it, I knew it!" Gina suddenly burst into laughter.

No! It should be said that Emily suddenly burst into laughter. Her laughter gave her away completely—she wasn’t Gina at all, but Emily Lopez.

James was dumbfounded, realizing that despite the charade, Emily had finally seen through their act. His reference to her as "Emily" had completely betrayed the relationship between the two, and the fact that they were sharing the same bed, yet maintaining such distance, was an inconsistency too great to be explained.

However, now that he had been found out, James actually felt relieved and said with a smile, "You finally figured it out, and now I can finally be free."

Emily didn’t leave James’s side but looked at him with a smile, saying, "Brother-in-law, actually, I knew all along."

"You knew all along?" James asked incredulously, "Then why didn’t you say anything sooner? I didn’t even sense that you still had the intention to expose us this time."

Grace Lopez said proudly, "This is called ’luring the enemy in by feigning retreat’, you know. If I hadn’t thrown you off your guard, how would you have slipped up in front of me?"

James Brown had to admire the quirky spirit of this Grace Lopez, saying, "You really put a lot of thought into it. Now that you’ve exposed it, I can finally go home and get a good two sleeps."

Grace Lopez stopped James Brown, saying, "Don’t go, why would you leave when it’s so late?"

"What, if I don’t go, I’ll sleep with you?" James Brown looked at Grace Lopez with a laugh, no longer needing to pretend to be Gina Lopez’s perfect husband, he spoke with ease.

Grace Lopez said with a giggle, "Sleeping together is no big deal. You live with my sister every day and haven’t done anything to her. If I slept on the same bed with you, what could you possibly do to me?"

"That’s true, I really can’t do anything," James Brown nodded.

Grace Lopez curiously looked at James Brown, saying, "Brother-in-law..."

James Brown interrupted Grace Lopez, saying, "Don’t call me brother-in-law anymore."

"Hehe, it just slipped out. But honestly, I really did enjoy you being my brother-in-law. If I got another brother-in-law, I’m afraid I wouldn’t have as much fun with them as I do with you."

"Heh, whether or not I’m your brother-in-law, if you seek me out in the future, I’ll still hang out with you. I also feel like we really get along."

"Then it’s a deal, hehe. From now on, if I go out to have fun, I won’t be under my sister’s thumb. Now, that is nice," Grace Lopez said.

"Heh, you’re right," James Brown agreed.

Grace Lopez blinked and looked at James Brown, saying, "Brother-in-law, you say... hehe, it really just slips out. I can’t seem to stop. But tell me, living with my sister every day, don’t you ever think about something?"

James Brown gave a wry smile, saying, "Your sister has such a strong presence and is a boss; how could I dare to entertain any thoughts? If I did, I’d probably lose my job, and that would be a disaster for me."

"Don’t lie to me. I’ve seen so many impressive things about you that it’s clear you’re not a simple person. I don’t know why you work at my sister’s company, but I definitely don’t think you’re intimidated by my sister, the general manager."

James Brown chuckled, "Regardless of whether I’m simple or not, right now I am just a low-level employee. Local officials are no match for the current management, so I am indeed afraid of your sister."

"Fine, let’s not talk about that. I’m asking you, have you really never considered pursuing my sister, never thought about genuinely being with her?"

James Brown shook his head decidedly, saying, "Absolutely not."

"Huh, is my sister not good enough? Although she might be a bit headstrong and not very caring, living with her is surely a bit dull, but she is still a great beauty."

"From what you’re saying, it sounds like your sister has no merits besides being pretty. Besides, you’re twins, so it almost sounds like you’re praising yourself."

Grace Lopez laughed out loud, saying, "You guessed right. So, do you have someone in mind?"

"No, but I just don’t want to rush into a relationship so soon. I want to enjoy single life for a few more years. As you’ve seen, if I found a girlfriend, I’d have to attend to her just like I do your sister, which would be very depressing. So, it’s better to be on my own—it’s more relaxing that way."

Grace Lopez giggled, "You think just like me. I want to have fun for a few more years and then consider getting married when I’m thirty. But my dad and mom are so anxious, they keep pushing me. How about you pretend to be my boyfriend again and then go back and cajole my parents?"

James Brown laughed heartily at Grace Lopez’s joke, "Do you think that’s feasible?"

Grace Lopez pouted, "It really isn’t. My parents would think I stole my sister’s boyfriend, and they would skin me alive."

"You know that now. Alright, alright, let’s sleep. Tomorrow morning, you should clear things up with your sister. You’re blood sisters, after all, and you’re facing the same issue. You two should be on the same side, not undermining each other."

"I did intend to do just that, but she deceived even me, so I had to expose her. But since you, brother-in-law, put it that way, I’ll give her some respect and clear things up with her tomorrow morning."

"That’s the way to go. Time to sleep!" James Brown patted Grace Lopez’s hand, saying, "Move over there already."

Grace Lopez smiled mischievously, "You know, lying next to you doesn’t feel too bad, brother-in-law. It’s amazing my sister never noticed, what a fool." Having said that, she moved away from James Brown’s side.

After they moved apart, they chatted idly for a while. James Brown was completely relaxed, his speech infused with light humor. Grace Lopez, too, had no qualms about sharing a bed with James Brown. Though she pretended to be drunk today, she had still drunk quite a bit, and after a while, drowsiness overwhelmed her, and she fell into a deep sleep.

The next morning, when Gina Lopez woke up, she found Sunny Nguyen lying next to her. At first, she didn’t think anything of it, but when she fully came to her senses, she suddenly realized that if she was sleeping there, Grace must have had to sleep with James Brown. This thought startled her so much that she leapt out of bed and rushed straight into her own room.
