Chapter 42: Chapter 42: Can’t Even Keep an Eye on a Man
In the following days, Mo Shu, in response to Grandpa’s words about diligence compensating for lack of skill, even skipped her morning classes.
However, after arriving at the company, she couldn’t tell if Li Bozhou was genuinely busy or just didn’t want to deal with her. Mo Shu ended up sitting on a cold bench for several days.
After a few days, Mo Shu started to feel a bit listless.
But somehow, Mo Jiantao had gotten wind of this, and by the third afternoon, he appeared in her office.
Mo Jiantao’s face was full of schadenfreude as he said, "What’s wrong? Weren’t you so proud before? Oh, and even temporarily sitting in the vice president’s seat, so arrogant. And now you can’t seem to muster that pride, can you?"
Contempt was all over Mo Jiantao’s face; the mocking intent couldn’t have been clearer.
He understood his daughter all too well.
Her temper was just like his when he was young, utterly intolerant of scorn and ridicule.
Thinking of how she would become vexed and spiteful, Mo Jiantao couldn’t help feeling smug.
Unexpectedly, Mo Shu didn’t react with the anger Mo Jiantao had imagined. Instead, she raised an eyebrow nonchalantly, as if his words were neither painful nor itchy to her.
Mo Shu gave him a sidelong glance and said in a soft voice, "Some people have been sitting for decades and are still quite proud. I need to be able to keep my composure too."
Mo Jiantao’s face fell, "After getting engaged, you’ve become even sharper with your words. It’s a pity, though, talk is cheap; you need to perform well. Don’t think just because the old man dotes on you that you can do whatever you want. The waters are deep here in this company!"
Mo Shu chuckled lightly, "Thanks for the reminder. Ji Nan, see the guest out."
Ji Nan came over quickly, "Mr. Mo, please."
Mo Jiantao’s face looked terrible, and after giving Mo Shu one last glare, he turned to leave.
However, he hadn’t taken more than a few steps when he suddenly remembered something and said, "By the way, I’ve heard that your fiancé has kept a little mistress on the side. That mistress is quite the innocent beauty, exactly the type men like. Tsk, some people, no matter how naturally lucky they are, need to have some personal success. What’s the use, if you can’t even keep your own fiancé? What will you do in the future?"
With that, he let out a self-satisfied laugh and walked out.
Ji Nan was furious, and as Mo Jiantao stepped out the door, he slammed it shut with a ’bang’.
Mo Jiantao jumped in fright and cursed under his breath, "Damn, that little bitch doesn’t respect me, and even this damn servant dares to defy me. Just wait until I catch you at a low point, then you’ll see!"
After cursing, he turned around, thinking of Mo Shu’s impending reaction, and he couldn’t help feeling exceptionally pleased.
Mo Shu had always been arrogant and conceited; how could she not fly into a rage upon hearing that Yu Siqiao was keeping a woman on the side and not go straight to confront him?
This would surely cause a huge scene.
Yu Siqiao already disliked her, and if she made a big deal out of this, his aversion to her could only grow.
What then, would Mo Shu have left to be proud of?
Heh.
-
Mo Jiantao’s words undoubtedly struck a nerve with Mo Shu.
Regardless of whether they were true or not, it wasn’t in Mo Shu’s nature to let things go easily.
Ji Nan closed the door, already bracing himself for Mo Shu’s wrath.
To his surprise, however, Mo Shu remained unusually calm.
She looked pensive and asked Ji Nan, "Do you think there’s something wrong with Mo Jiantao’s brain?"
"Huh?" Ji Nan hadn’t grasped her meaning, and it took him a moment to respond hesitantly, "Maybe... yeah..."
But wasn’t he always like this?
On the other hand, Princess Mo... had been increasingly out of character lately.
