Chapter 49: Chapter 49 Cooperation Problems
Qin Jiran was rather surprised to receive a call from Su Yanmo. The conversation that followed only increased his amazement.
"...I’ve been examining this plan for a long time, and there shouldn’t be any problems. If you’re interested, come to the company tomorrow to take a look, and by the way, sign the contract." Su Yanmo was known for his direct and frank manner of speaking. There was no need to beat around the bush with family.
The plan Su Yanmo mentioned was about investing in a resort, ostensibly in collaboration with Father Su’s company. The Su’s main business was the hotel industry, with resorts being a gradually developing sector in recent years. Su Yanmo wasn’t heavily responsible for this part but had enough say. It was precisely because Su Yanyi had recognized Qin Jiran’s existence that he thought of involving Qin Jiran too.
Qin Jiran was aware of this plan, or it would be more accurate to say that everyone in City A knew of it; many wanted to get involved. However, the Su’s, with their funds and connections, had no need to collaborate with others. The fact that they had now approached him, left Qin Jiran struggling to decide.
It was an opportunity Qin Jiran naturally did not want to miss. Furthermore, it was Big Brother Su who had taken the initiative to approach him. Rejecting such an offer would seem rather inappropriate, but accepting it too readily also didn’t seem quite right.
Why had the Su family approached him? Did Yanyi know about it? He couldn’t believe that Su Family members would be unaware of the real situation regarding his marriage to Su Yanyi. So, could it be that the Su family had misunderstood something?
"Does Yanyi know about this?" Qin Jiran asked hesitantly.
"She knows, and she very much approves." Su Yanmo immediately understood Qin Jiran’s concern and was even more satisfied with his reaction. While masculinity should be assertive, it was also important to consult with family when tackling issues; unilateral decisions could often hurt relationships.
In fact, Su Yanmo’s satisfaction stemmed from his belief that Qin Jiran’s personality was well-suited for his sister. His sister had always been stubborn, with very much her own mind and a temper hard to describe as ’nice.’ For a man to get along with Yanyi like that, he must have a good character, be understanding enough, and sufficiently gentle. At first, Su Yanmo hadn’t thought Qin Jiran was suitable for his sister, feeling that the man seemed too similar to Yanyi. If two such people were to live together, it surely wouldn’t work out. But now, it seemed Qin Jiran might be quite acceptable after all.
Although Su Yanmo had accepted Qin Jiran as part of the Su family because of Su Yanyi’s affirmation, this did not mean that he thought everything was perfect. Observing and understanding Qin Jiran was still necessary.
"Jiran, think it over. Once you’ve decided, come to me," Su Yanmo considerately left Qin Jiran with space to think.
After hanging up the phone, Qin Jiran thought it over and felt it was necessary to talk with Su Yanyi. He did not think his status was suitable for getting involved in the Su family’s business. Su Yanyi already believed he had agreed to marry for fame, and if he cooperated with the Su family now, he worried whether Yanyi might misinterpret his intentions.
Qin Jiran first knocked on the door of Su Yanyi’s study and, hearing no response, hesitated before going to Su Yanyi’s bedroom, where he knocked on the door with a nervous feeling.
Su Yanyi had already taken a bath and changed into her pajamas, ready to rest, but she was not surprised by the knock. She simply called out for the person to enter and then sat down on the bed.
Qin Jiran pushed open the door and, not seeing Su Yanyi immediately, hesitated before entering. Her room had always been off-limits to him, and stepping in now gave him an almost heart-stopping sensation.
"What is it?" Su Yanyi was in the middle of roughly drying her hair, a sight that was somewhat distressing to watch.
It wasn’t the first time Qin Jiran saw Su Yanyi’s rough movements. Thinking back to their time living together at the Su Family Mansion, he couldn’t help but say, "Let me do it for you."
Su Yanyi handed over the towel quite naturally. Having someone else’s help was always pleasant, and Qin Jiran’s more practiced movements pleased her.
Su Yanyi never liked using a hairdryer, and she often hurt herself while drying her hair. Having someone help was truly nice.
"Big Brother talked to me about a business collaboration. Did you know?" Qin Jiran ventured.
"I know." Su Yanyi figured this was why he had come to her so late; it had to be about this matter.
"I think it’s not quite suitable." After all, he wasn’t truly a member of the Su family. Getting involved in such a significant project seemed improper, but more importantly, he feared it might provoke Su Yanyi’s displeasure.
"Not suitable? In what way?" Su Yanyi asked back, puzzled, moving her head as if to catch a glimpse of Qin Jiran.
Qin Jiran stopped his movements to avoid hurting Su Yanyi, saying, "The Su family doesn’t really need my funds, do they? Did Big Brother approach me wanting to take me under his wing in business?"
"Yes, Dad is too busy, and Big Brother is often abroad. It’s fitting for you to look after our domestic business." The Su family’s business was vast, but they were short on people. Her parents and Big Brother had always been busy, and now that Qin Jiran was recognized, it was natural for him to be involved.
"Do you trust me?" Qin Jiran was surprised and somewhat thrilled, showing a hint of excitement in his voice.
"Of course." If she couldn’t trust this man, she probably couldn’t trust anyone else either. Still, there weren’t many people she did trust.
Qin Jiran smiled. He felt like he was celebrating New Year’s daily, receiving gifts and surprises every day. His relationship with Su Yanyi was becoming increasingly harmonious, and she seemed to treat him better and better, almost to the point of feeling unreal, even causing him some unease.
"Yanyi, do you really not mind me getting involved in the Su family’s business? Our relationship... with it being like this, is it appropriate?" He was naturally willing, but there was still hesitation.
"Our relationship? What about it? What do you mean? Why would it be inappropriate?" Su Yanyi fired off several questions in quick succession, evidently quite taken aback. She eyed Qin Jiran, showing a hint of displeasure, not understanding why he would pose such a question. Family working together in business couldn’t possibly be inappropriate!
Qin Jiran was also looking at Su Yanyi. Faced with her questions, he felt at a loss for words, and didn’t even understand why she would ask such things. Wasn’t their contract marriage meant to have clear boundaries? Since it was an agreement, he shouldn’t get involved in the Su family’s business, and Su Yanyi should be aware of that. But why had she decided otherwise?
Both Qin Jiran and Su Yanyi were puzzled, Su Yanyi was dissatisfied, and their conversation remained unopened; one had no idea how to speak, and the other had never even thought there was something to consider.
