Chapter 288: Chapter 288: Despair Boiling Over [Fourth Update]

"Saint Court... Saint Court... the gods have perished... the Saint Court is no more..."

The eerie and terrifying voice seemed to come from an illusion, appearing sporadically in everyone’s ears and causing goosebumps to rise.

Even Qin Jun couldn’t help but feel a tingling on his scalp. He looked around but saw no ghostly figures, while the sky had become overcast with rolling dark clouds, unknown when they had gathered.

"Ghosts?" Qin Jun asked in a deep voice directed at Black and White Impermanence, for they were Ghost Gods and undoubtedly understood ghosts better than anyone present.

Black Impermanence grimaced, "Unclear. My divine consciousness can’t detect any ghostly entities."

Although they were Ghost Gods, they weren’t the most powerful entities in the underworld, only slightly better off among their peers. If there were ghosts they couldn’t detect, it only meant one thing: the adversary was stronger than they.

Once a ghost cultivated to a certain realm, they could be stronger than cultivators of the same level, even overwhelmingly so.

"It’s over... the souls harboring resentment over countless years... we’re all going to die..."

Sang Liang once again spread panic, causing unrest among the cultivators.

"What is this Saint Court? And what about these gods?"

"Let’s leave in another direction!"

"It’s useless, I just came around from the edge. There seems to be an invisible wall; we can’t get out at all!"

"Why is this happening? There was never anything like this before!"

"I don’t know... are we really going to die here?"

The cultivators’ discussions were filled with panic and fear, and more and more of them began to gather. In desperate situations, it is human nature to band together, hence the cultivators were flocking to where the most people were.

However, because of a certain mysterious prohibition, their divine consciousness could only spread out for a kilometer, no matter how strong they were, even if they were at the Golden Immortal Realm.

"What in the world is this Saint Court?"

Qin Jun was going a bit mad thinking about it. For some reason, he had a feeling that the abnormalities in the Valley of Death were related to that extreme yin water he had absorbed earlier.

When the dark clouds covered the sunlight and Death Valley fell into darkness, mysterious white shadows began to emerge, prompting screams from the cultivators. Can you imagine what it feels like to suddenly encounter ghostly figures around you?

In this panic-inducing atmosphere, even cultivators felt terrified.

"Move aside!"

A cultivator swung his sword, but it passed through the white shadow as if it were slicing through air and, even though the white shadow remained undispersed, the scene only served to heighten the panic among the cultivators.

"Don’t panic, they might just be illusions, like a mirage!"

Another cultivator, a middle-aged man, shouted in an attempt to calm the others and then lead them.

However, a white shadow suddenly reached out its hand behind him and pierced through his chest, splattering blood. The smile on his face vanished in an instant, replaced by terror and disbelief.

With a squelch, a strange blue flame suddenly emerged on the hand of the white shadow, instantly burning the middle-aged cultivator to ashes. All the other cultivators gasped in shock and hastily dodged, keeping a distance from the white shadows around them.

"What exactly are these white shadows?"

Qin Jun asked Black and White Impermanence, who ignored the attacks from the cultivators but could attack them. This mechanism was just too unreasonable!

Both Black and White Impermanence showed looks of confusion clearly indicating that they, too, were unaware of these white shadows.

Glancing around, there was a dense mass of eerie white shadows, numbering not in the thousands, then at least several thousand, making Qin Jun’s skin crawl.

"Dare to disturb... the tomb of the War God... die..."

The mysterious voice sounded once again, and this time, it fully ignited the terror and rage in the hearts of the cultivators. Countless white shadows began to assault them like a swarm of locusts.

A great battle was on the verge of breaking out!

Yuan Hong and Lei Zhenzi stood to Qin Jun’s left and right, with Li Cunxiao in front of him, and Black and White Impermanence behind him. Facing the oncoming white shadows, they all relied on their mana to resist.

The white shadows were dispersed by the blasts of mana, but they swiftly reformed again.

Qin Jun raised an eyebrow, noting that the white shadows could only ignore physical attacks. Mana could disperse them, which meant they weren’t absolutely invincible.

Just then, Jin Wuhui unexpectedly leaped down from the mist, startling Qin Jun and the others.

"Hahaha! You can’t even save yourselves. Don’t think about torturing me anymore!"

Jin Wuhui laughed menacingly as he fell toward the valley below. Yuan Hong was about to grab him when several white shadows flew towards him. Blue flames flared up, accompanied by Jin Wuhui’s screams of agony. He, too, was reduced to ash.

"Idiot!"

Qin Jun cursed inwardly, relieved that he had already learned that the Abyss Sect had relocated to the Black Flame Sect, rendering Jin Wuhui no longer of any use.

"Ahh—"

"Damn it! These ghost things can’t be killed!"

"Save me!"

Cries of fear and despair from the other cultivators could be heard around them. One after another, cultivators were slain by the white shadows, and those whose Primordial Spirits exited their bodies were instantly consumed by the blue flames, reduced to nothingness.

A slaughter was unfolding; despair was boiling over.

If it weren’t for the great strength of Yuan Hong and the others, they too would likely be in grave danger soon.

Just then, a white shadow descended from the sky, aiming for Qin Jun’s head, startling him into spewing forth Samadhi Real Fire. With a woosh, the fire enveloped the white shadow, the flames dissipated, and the white shadow vanished without a trace, without reassembling.

"It works!"

Qin Jun’s eyes lit up, and he suddenly thought that as the Extreme Flame Demon God, he might be able to counter the mysterious white shadows in Death Valley.

"Clear the way!"

Qin Jun shouted to Li Cunxiao, who, noticing what Qin Jun had just done, prudently moved aside.

Roaring flames burst forth from Qin Jun’s mouth as he turned his head, burning the white shadows to ashes. The white shadows didn’t scream as they were enveloped by the flames, but their frantic efforts to escape showed they were terrified.

A thrill of victory surged within Qin Jun. This was his opportunity to protect his own.

The chance for him to shine had finally arrived!

Qin Jun put more effort into it, twisting his body, continually spewing out flames from his mouth, incinerating the white shadows attacking them.

The other cultivators took notice of Qin Jun’s sudden rise to prominence, like seeing a beacon of light in darkness. The cultivators began converging towards Qin Jun.

Jin Wuhui, evading and dodging, looked at Qin Jun in astonishment, not expecting him to be so powerful.

"Scram—"

With a fierce roar, Yuan Hong’s might as a ninth-level Golden Immortal was unleashed, shaking the approaching cultivators to the point of bleeding from all orifices.

He couldn’t deal with the white shadows, but he certainly could deal with the cultivators.

His belly full of vexation, this was a perfect opportunity to take his frustration out on the cultivators!

"Demonic aura... Why is there demonic aura emanating from him..."

Sang Liang’s eyes widened as he stared at Qin Jun, a sudden thought crossing his mind. Could it be that Qin Jun had already been possessed by a demon? If so, the world would surely fall into great calamity!

"Ding! Due to Sang Liang harboring hostility towards the host, it’s likely that the host will attract pursuit from Buddhism!"

Feeling triumphant, Qin Jun suddenly heard the system notification and was taken aback. Damn it, was this bald donkey poisoned or something? How did I provoke you?
