Chapter 1249: Chapter 1249: Land of Behemoths
Eight Wildernesses, boundless and vast, wrapped in endless dense fog—standing atop the clouds and looking forward, the space ahead appeared to be another universe entirely, with no direction to bypass the Eight Wildernesses other than retreating.
"Just how vast the Eight Wildernesses truly are has always been a mystery."
"It is said that many powerful beings take the Eight Wildernesses as a trial target. Those creatures who survive and leave the Eight Wildernesses alive are each a preeminent figure in their own right."
"Your Majesty, entering the Eight Wildernesses, we must not take this lightly, even with so many Manifesting Saints among us."
Fuxi looked at the Eight Wildernesses and spoke. He had researched many things about them, and the more he knew, the more he dreaded them.
Qin Jun nodded. He could already feel that indescribable oppressive force.
Taotie also became restless, lying at Qin Jun’s feet, baring his teeth and pacing back and forth.
Soon, the group entered the thick fog, and the speed of the clouds abruptly slowed.
Fuxi’s face changed color as he exclaimed in alarm, "There are mysterious rules here restricting spatial travel."
At the same time, the clouds began to descend, picking up speed rapidly.
Lin Yuqi hurriedly held Qin Jun tight, while the rest of the God and Demons felt as if countless mountains were pressing down on them. Even Patriarch Bodhi couldn’t help but frown.
"Whoosh—"
Patriarch Bodhi waved the Dust Brush rapidly, unleashing his magic power, which enveloped the entire cloud and slowed its descent.
"The Eight Wildernesses forbid flight! I never thought it was true!"
Fuxi’s countenance was extremely unsightly. He had not taken this information seriously when he first heard it, but even Manifesting Saints were restricted by the Eight Wildernesses.
Qin Jun, on the other hand, was rather calm. In the inner universe, such a formidable reputation attached to the Eight Wildernesses would be nonsensical without its dangers.
"Is this the Eight Wildernesses? What exactly is this oppressive force..."
Torch Dragon murmured to himself, with only he, at the peak of the Manifesting Saint Realm, shaking with fear in the face of the oppressive force of the Eight Wildernesses.
Death’s face was somber as he sighed, "Legend has it that the Eight Wildernesses were at the center of the ancient Great Tribulation. Countless powerful beings perished here, and after innumerable epochs, this place is a death ground a thousand times more terrifying than the Qiuming Abyss."
He had been to the inner universe before and had wanted to brave the Eight Wildernesses, but his strength had been insufficient.
Ji Bubai, however, was brimming with excitement; he could hardly wait to seek out the extreme flame demon god.
Before long, they passed through the rolling dense fog, and an endless expanse of mountains and forests came into view. Amid the dense vegetation was a continent so vast that they couldn’t see its entirety, for the mountains there were at least a million feet high, soaring into the mists above.
"Caw—"
A shrieking cry came, startling them into looking around, only to see a giant black crow with wings spanning ten thousand feet dart out from the distant fog, its wings flapping and creating a fierce wind.
The black crow seemed not to notice Qin Jun and the others, flying rapidly toward the Eight Wildernesses’ mainland, its figure growing smaller until it disappeared beyond the mountains.
"Half Holy!"
Fuxi said in a deep voice, just arriving and already encountering a Half Holy creature?
Lin Yuqi was taken aback—the Eight Wildernesses were indeed perilous. Torch Dragon and True Person of the Jade Cauldron had particularly ghastly expressions, suggesting that with their levels of cultivation, if they ventured into the Eight Wildernesses, they would likely face more peril than fortune.
"Keep moving forward!"
Qin Jun said calmly. With Sun Wukong and Patriarch Bodhi present, he feared nothing.
They soon landed. If they continued to fly, Fuxi wouldn’t be able to withstand it, and even Patriarch Bodhi said they couldn’t fly for long.
"Curious indeed, why could that bird fly?"
Li Yuanba scratched his head and muttered, "The Eight Wilderness is so vast—if we travel on foot, when will we ever find that extreme flame demon god?"
Patriarch Bodhi gazed into the distance and said, "That black crow must have been born in the Eight Wilderness; it’s not repelled by the rules here."
Even he, who had reached the Saint Realm of the Heavenly Dao, couldn’t see through the Eight Wilderness—what exactly was hidden within it?
Ahead lay mountainous terrain, sparse with weeds. Approximately four or five thousand meters away, the mountains rose in succession, growing taller the further in one looked, as if they had no end.
The group began to advance with Sun Wukong and Li Yuanba at the forefront. Patriarch Bodhi and Ji Bubai brought up the rear, while Fuxi and Yang Jian were on the left, and Houtu and the God and Demon on the right, perfectly protecting Qin Jun and others from all sides.
"Is it impossible to extend Divine Consciousness?"
Qin Jun asked softly. After landing, the surroundings were eerily silent.
Despite not having a sun visible through the dense fog overhead, light shone bright over the entire Eight Wilderness land as if it were midday.
"It’s not possible."
The God and Demon shook his head. Patriarch Bodhi didn’t speak, his expression somewhat unpleasant, indicating that even a Manifesting Saint of the Heavenly Dao couldn’t do as he wished within the Eight Wilderness.
At that moment, a figure burst through the rolling fog, landing swiftly. He wore a blue warrior’s robe, a long sword and a saber hanging at his waist, and had a severe countenance.
"The Eight Wilderness! I, Tie Shusheng, am here!"
Having said that, he dashed forward wildly. Qin Jun and the others turned back, thinking they were about to be attacked, only to see the man race past them, up the mountain slope, quickly disappearing from their sight.
"Was that man just now a Saint?"
Li Yuanba asked in astonishment—they had been completely ignored!
Ji Bubai nodded, "His aura is unstable; he must have just broken through to the Saint Realm."
Lin Yuqi, Torch Dragon, and True Person of the Jade Cauldron felt completely out of sorts—had they encountered a Half Holy upon entering, and now stumbled upon a Saint?
Could it be that the Eight Wilderness was a paradise for Saints?
Qin Jun started laughing, his interest in the Eight Wilderness growing ever greater.
The team continued onward.
After climbing over a high mountain and standing atop the peak, they looked out with awe on their faces.
The Eight Wilderness was not the desolate wasteland they had imagined. Instead, it was filled with lush greenery and majestic landscapes. In front of them lay rolling mountain ranges and, some tens of thousands of meters out, an ocean-like vast lake where they could see giant fish leaping high out of the water, despite the distance.
"This place is so vast; where should we search for that extreme flame demon god?" Li Yuanba lamented. With Divine Consciousness unusable and an inability to fly, the task was indeed frustrating.
No one responded, as they were all contemplating the same problem.
Boom!
A mountain peak to the east suddenly shattered, boulders flying in all directions with trails of dust, like meteors striking the earth.
The group turned to look, only to see that it was that same blue-robed man who called himself Tie Shusheng. Now he appeared quite disheveled, tumbling down along with the rocks and debris, severely lacking the grandeur of a Saint.
Qin Jun and the others refrained from mocking him, instead fixing their gaze on the massive creature atop the mountain peak.
It was a monstrous beast resembling a lizard, with six eyes and a body completely dark green. Its head alone was tens of thousands of meters wide, making any creature feel insignificant in its presence.
Its long, forked tongue flicked in and out, and its six eyes swiveled as it spoke in human tongue, "Boy, how dare you disturb my sleep— I’m going to eat you!"
Tie Shusheng landed at the foot of the mountain, finally steadying himself. His forehead was cut, blood oozing out, and he looked up at the lizard monster with gritted teeth, cursing, "Who asked you to be so big? I thought you were part of the mountain!"
After speaking, Tie Shusheng drew the sword and saber from his waist, holding the saber in his left hand and the sword in his right, leaping toward the lizard monster in a fierce attack.
"What is this guy’s cultivation level?" Qin Jun asked curiously. Such a large beast, with an overbearing presence—it seemed even stronger than that black crow they’d encountered earlier.
