“No!” I exclaimed, exaggeratedly turning to face Delores, who was holding me from behind. Meanwhile, Janice rushed to devastated Dee3’s side to comfort her.

“I never miss. I hit the target squarely between his brows, but this body didn’t dissipate,” I asserted confidently and explained in attempts to defend myself.

Thanks to the passive effects of my second toy summons, ‘Apex Earring,’ it was impossible for me to miss a shot. It raised my mastery of modern arms to the zenith that one could ever reach. It rendered factors such as stability and accuracy moot. And thanks to the effects of the Leprechaun scope, factors like range and visibility, too, were rendered moot. It even increased the chance of triggering the effect of the Mischief bullet. I had all my bases covered. Turning every shot fired from the Rail Rifle into a sure kill shot.

“No, it’s not Ace. Mr. Bridie’s biomatrix shows his life force was drained out of him. They are probably using the life steal curse,” Dee3 informed, juggling her grief and the group.

“Life steal curse?” Sonia asked in confusion.

“It’s a curse that steals life from nearby living beings to heal the wielder. A Sky-tier Life Steal curse can even keep them dying as long as there were living beings with strong life force nearby,” Sugarmite answered with a frown, having realized why the four curse terrorist group was acting so openly, especially far away from the borders.

The news that a hostile curse caster was capable of casting a sky-tier life-steal curse immediately turned the atmosphere grim, not to mention grieving Dee3. The situation just took a turn for the worst-case scenario. Since the only way to avoid the life-steal curse was to have it, it was certain that all of the curse terrorists had the life-steal curse buff on them to avoid friendly fire.

Fighting four sky-tier curse masters with the buff of life steal curse was worse than fighting four sky-tier Sonia. Not only were they unkillable until one found a way to break their curse buff, but they would regenerate by stealing their opponents’ life force. So attacking them was the same as attacking oneself.

“Manhunter, go order the ground team to begin evacuating the city. Then, take a team to personally escort Lola and her family out of the town to the safe house—” EAD Matthew began to make arrangements, but was interrupted by Ace, who offered, “The Lorens and Martins are always welcome at the Lander estate.”

Knowing that the arrival of the reinforcement will not change the situation with the Curse Terrorists, thanks to their curse buff and might even make things worse, EAD Matthews began to prepare for the worst.

EAD Matthews nodded in agreement, while Agent Manhunter repeated, “Evacute the town, lead the Martins and Lorens to the Lander estate,” before Matthews sent her out of the fused curse dominion using her curse dominion.

“Why isn’t Lola with you?” Janice asked, wondering if Matthews was playing favorites with the C.I.B.’s new trainees.

Matthews didn’t plan to answer Janice, as she didn’t need to. She did not work for the latter. However, Ava announced, “She was insubordinate. She made a fuss about checking up on her family during an ambush, so my mother had no choice but to throw her out of the curse dominion alone.”

Janice glared at Matthews as the latter had promised that she would ensure Lola’s safety at all times. Her innate curse master physique made her a very attractive target for all types of organizations in the curse community.

When various organizations from the curse community staked out the Lander estate, hoping the Overlord’s descendant would show up for Ace, some of the more intuitive ones not only discovered Lola among the townspeople but also attempted to kidnap her. Her uncle, Prince McSuile, was among them. It was the second time he had tried to go after Lola, and it forced the Void-tier of the C.I.B. to step in and mediate. Though this was enough to scare off most, it wasn’t for the powerful.

Shaking her head and letting out a long sigh, Matthews assured, “She is safe. Let’s just focus on containing this situation. If they make a move on the civilian evacuating the city, we will have to run interference. Get ready to engage them.”

“Yes,” Sugermite affirmed while Delores nodded, as only two of them were strong enough to participate in a Sky-tier battle. As for Evil Eyes, he was recalled by the McSuile family, feeling they were wasting too much manpower on Janice when she had the protection of the Void-tier curse array.

“Remember, no need to seriously engage them, just run interference to hinder them from deploying whatever they have planned to stop us from evacuating the townspeople,” Matthews stressed, eyeing Delores, knowing the latter was the best fit for this mission with her speed. However, her fighting was extremely deadly and cruel. So, Matthews couldn’t help but double-check with her.

“Don’t worry, this isn’t my first rodeo dealing with opponents with life-steal curse buff,” Delores assured, seeing Matthews’ lack of faith in her. Then, she coldly ordered her passenger, pushing him out of her embrace, “Get off, before I kick you down.”

“Geez, you don’t need to be so rough,” I complained as Specroll once again wrapped around me in its Exo-armor form and then got off Delores’s board.
