The SSS Legendary Dragon Chose Me On Rebirth -
Chapter 68: The sun is up I
Chapter 68: The sun is up I
The sun was up.
Its light burned the last of the blood fog away from the castle.
Vacuse Vorrakyn stood in the courtyard, his robe drenched with blood and his face splattered with it. He stood with his hand behind his back as he looked at all the bodies on the ground.
"What a mess," he muttered.
Harkon was still beside him, all his swords gone except for the single one he held in his hand as he stood guard beside his Lord. His clothes were covered in blood as well.
Before dawn, the blood fog had alerted the rest of the city to what was going on, and the different stations in the city sent their men over.
The intruders, those of them that weren’t dead, were captured and taken, already in prison.
Left to Vacuse, he would have killed all of them while leaving a few of them left to question.
But Drenvar had already unsealed the palace and taken control of things.
Things were moving fast.
Since Commander Fenris Vorrakyn was already dead, the Wing Brigade had been charged with occupying the city and keeping things calm.
But that was after an investigation was carried out.
It was apparent that only a selected few in the Brigade were used against Drenvar. The others were given the order to stand down and not interfere with things.
In a way,
Fenris Vorrakyn didn’t want to complicate things with his army.
But he was already dead, killed by the intruders together with all his guards.
The whole of Kragthar had been put under martial law, locked down while soldiers, both Soulbearers and ordinary, went around keeping things calm and eliminating anything suspicious.
The commanders that Vacuse called had already vanished with the blood fog, and it was because of them that the Dragon Castle wasn’t taken.
They were the ones that dealt with all the high-ranking members of the intruders.
Vacuse would find a way to compensate them later, and he knew just what to do.
Although things were stabilized, it was only at the surface level. The castle was filled with so much tension that something small might just spark an explosion.
The fact that some of the Dragon Guards betrayed the Dragon Lord was making everyone uneasy.
The Dragon Guards were the elite.
The best of the best, and they were made up of bright minds. They were the sword and shield of the Dragon Lord. There should be no disloyalty tied to their names.
But now, for the first time since the creation of the Vorrakyn family, the Dragon Guards betrayed Vorrakyn.
Dragon Guards had been known to betray Vorrakyn for other Vorrakyn. That was why there was a Watch. Never had they supported an outsider.
But now,
Everyone grew weary when they thought about the fact.
Also, the Commander of the Dragon Guard, the Watch, and the ruler of the Dragon Pathway was killed, his head cut off and the Blood Dragon Eyes were taken.
It was disaster.
Whispers had begun to spread. What they said in secret they now said openly.
Is the time of the red eyes coming to an end in the West? Their influence had already shrunk to Kragthar. Were they going to disappear forever?
Even the fact that they now had a Dragon was not enough anymore.
Although the intruders didn’t manage to kill Vacuse or Drenvar, they managed to break the morale and part of their authority in Kragthar.
It was like wounding a shark underwater. The ripple would spread, and dozens of sharks would come for the wounded one.
"Nicely done. The Vorrakyn lost this round," Vacuse said with a tight smile. "Harkon, the game began a long time ago, and we already lost this one. Even worse, we don’t know the true players yet."
Harkon was already used to Vacuse speaking in such a way, and he didn’t say anything in return. He merely listened and nodded.
Vacuse sighed, shook his head, and then began to walk towards the palace, shouting orders as he walked. "Go around and look for all the bodies. Lay them out. Separate them from intruders and the Vorrakyn people.
"Get people from the administration here to start recording. I want to know the numbers of people dead down to the rats and birds. Those who disappeared and those who should be here and are not.
"Lay the wounded in shaded areas, and those not wounded should join the search team. Now."
The reaction was instant. They bowed to him and started moving.
Vacuse didn’t count the whole night as a loss. After all, he managed to gain more of the loyalty of the people with the way he took charge with the blood fog.
His prestige would spread. One thing Vacuse learned in his past life was to treat his enemies as enemies and his friends as friends, but to keep both at a distance.
He would treat his people right but would also use them if it fit his agenda.
And he would treat his enemies wrong. A simple but complicated thing.

A chubby hand reached for a small wooden case in front of him on the table. The hand picked it up and opened it.
"Hmm... so this is the only gain?" the chubby figure said. His face was bloated and filled with fat, his small eyes like little wet black stones. A smoking pipe dangled by the side of his mouth. "Don’t seem like much."
Captain Yemi stood in front of him with little scratches on his body for someone that should have been torn away by winds. "You fucking bastard, why did you suddenly change your mind in the middle of all of this!"
The chubby figure hummed. "I forgot."
Captain Yemi went still, and his eyes narrowed. "You expected me dead. That’s why you sent the words to Shadowwind instead."
The figure blew out smoke from his mouth. "I wouldn’t have given you the cloning artifact if that was the case. The thing is, I couldn’t reach you or your master, and only Shadowwind could be reached.
"I’m glad you are here. Your master would be pleased as well. It wouldn’t have been easy to lose someone of your powers. Now then, tell me what exactly happened yesterday."
