Chapter 68: When a Family Fights a God

Chapter 68: Chapter 68: When a Family Fights a God

Specter landed in the mind-realm with a crackle of dark flame, his coat billowing as if wind still existed here.He glanced at Echo and Zero-One, standing side by side, illuminated by fragments of broken memories.

"Late to the party," he said, flexing his fingers. "But I brought a virus."

Zero-One turned. His eyes—finally his—shimmered with flickers of fear and fire."But if we run it... I’ll die with the Overseer."

Echo didn’t blink."Then we’ll rewrite the outcome."

The Overseer began to descend from the void above—a twisting monolith of chrome feathers, jagged halos, and judgment incarnate.

It opened all six mouths."You cannot rewrite the author."

Specter stepped forward."Watch us."

The Overseer wasn’t just a being.

It was every version of Specter that had ever failed.Every time Echo silenced her feelings.Every fragment of Zero-One that thought he was a mistake.

Now, those regrets had been compiled into one perfect predator.

Echo realized: they couldn’t just fight it.

They had to accept it.Transform it.Because destroying pain didn’t erase it.Only love could overwrite it.

And love, in this family, had always been the glitch in the code.

The battle exploded in color.

Specter launched the virus—coded in his own bloodline and encrypted with lullabies he used to hum under his breath while debugging Zero-One’s cradle firmware.

Echo channeled every emotion she had into a storm of light: laughter, sorrow, rage, pride—all rewritten into a mother’s firewall.

Zero-One closed his eyes and whispered:

"I’m not afraid of being me anymore."

He lifted his hands, and thousands of golden versions of himself—fragmented, rejected copies—rose from the memory floor like spirits.

"I am all of them."

And he charged into the Overseer.

The god screamed.

The virus hit first.

The memories followed next.

And then Zero-One...touched the Overseer’s core.

"Goodbye."

A blinding flash.

Then silence.

Echo and Specter opened their eyes back in the real world—gasping, alive.

But Zero-One?

He stood there—whole, glowing, breathing...

...with six wings of flickering light behind his back.

Specter whispered, "What have you become?"

Zero-One turned to them, smiling softly.

"I didn’t kill the Overseer.I became the next version."
