The Shadow of a Luna -
Chapter 49
Chapter 49: Chapter 49
TESSA POV
I woke up the following morning to someone opening the door again and it was Sawyer. He was bringing in my breakfast for me. He placed the tray down on the side of my bed and he checked my bullet wounds. The one on my shoulder and my arm. And he needed to change the dressing.
"How did you sleep?" Sawyer asked.
"Fan-fucking-tastic. And you?" I asked not really caring.
"Alright. Dumb question." He says.
"What the fuck is this?" I asked looking in the mug that he bought in.
"It’s blood. Katherine wants the baby to start getting used to the taste." He explained.
"I am not drinking that shit. I have never drank blood in my life. Except for maybe a couple of times when I was a wolf. But that’s only while I was hunting. I am not knowingly going to drink blood. I want coffee." I demand.
"I’ll try to get you some coffee." He says.
"Good. Because I’m not nice unless I have coffee in the morning." I say.
"Wait a minute. Is this you being nice?" He asked.
"So far, yeah." I say.
"Wow. Could have fooled me." He says sarcastically.
"This chain is really burning my ankle. I need to take it off. Just for a little while." I say.
"I don’t have the key." He says.
"Well, tell the person that does have the key that I need it off for a while. They can even supervise me with her stupid witch by her side if she wants. I don’t care. I just need this chain off my ankle for a while. It needs to heal a little." I say.
"Alright. I’ll ask if they can do that." He says.
"Thank you." I say. And he left the room again and I ate my breakfast but I broke off little pieces and I always smelt it before I ate it. To make sure that I couldn’t smell something that shouldn’t be there.
It wasn’t long after that when Katherine came into the room with three large vampires and a witch at her side. fre.ewebnov el.com
She grabbed the key out of her pocket and she unchained me and Sawyer came back into the room and he started rubbing some sort of lotion on the deep wounds that I had on my ankle before wrapping it in a bandage.
"Well, now that we’re going to be here for a while. Why don’t we get to know each other better." Katherine says sitting in the chair in the corner or the room.
"Alright. Are you ever going to let me shower and change my clothes or are you that much of a bitch that I am just gonna have to stink away like this?" I asked. And she smiled at me.
"You are a little feisty. I think I might like you." She says.
"Well, that makes one of us." I say rolling my eyes.
"Tell me how I can make your stay more comfortable?" She asked.
"Take me home and let me watch while my mate rips you apart. Because if you think this is going to end any other way, then you really are delusional." I say.
"Sweetie. He doesn’t even know where we are." She smirks.
"Not yet. But if you think that he’s ever going to stop until he finds me then you’re an idiot. And Angelo seemed to know you pretty well. So with his help, I’m sure they’ll narrow it down." I explain.
"Angelo wouldn’t even be in Maine yet. He’s still in Africa." She says and I started laughing.
"Wow. You did your homework on me but not my family. Angelo got back from Africa last week. Claims he got sick of lion blood." I laughed in her face. Katherine then glared at one of her men.
"You told me that he was still over there." Katherine says standing and approaching him menacingly. Even though she was a lot shorter than he was.
"I thought that he was. There was no sign of him in this country. Or returning to this country." The man pleaded. But it was too late. Katherine pulled out a stake from behind her that was tucked into her jeans and stabbed him in the heart with it.
He fell to the ground turning grey and desiccating right in front of us.
"I guess your staff are even more stupid than you are." I say. And she turns and glares at me.
"The rest of you stay in here and watch her. Make sure that she doesn’t do anything to escape. I have a few things to go and check out." Katherine commands leaving the room.
After she was gone I looked down at my ankle and tried to contain the smirk while seeing that it was now shackle free. No silver on me at all.
TYLER POV
’I can feel her.’ I say through the link as we are back in our wolf forms and running through the woods.
’What? How strong?’ Carter asked.
’It’s not very strong. But I can feel her. They must have sedated her or chained her with silver or something. But whatever it is, I can feel her now. This way.’ I say changing directions and running towards the direction that Tessa was pulling me in.
I knew that I was a long way from her still but the fact that I could feel her got me excited and made me happy for the first time in days. I ran as fast as my legs could take me. The other two had trouble keeping up, but that didn’t matter. I needed to keep going before I lost her again. And I knew that I would. They would do something to block the bond that we had between each other.
It was taking us in a completely different direction to where we were headed. So for that, I was so grateful. I knew that we never would have found her if we kept going that way. And I know that she had something to do with it. I just knew that she did. She wasn’t stupid. She knew how to get people to do what she wanted. She had me wrapped around her little finger, but that’s obviously completely different.
I just kept trying to reach her and tell her to hold on. That I was coming for her. That I was never going to stop looking for her. She had to keep holding on.
But the feeling only lasted for about an hour. And then it cut off. I couldn’t feel her anymore. I concentrated and tried to see if she was just moving further away from us, but she wasn’t. The feeling was completely gone. But at least now I knew that we were going in the right direction. I knew that we were on the right track.
’It’s alright. We keep following this track. We know which way she is going now.’ Cade says through the link.
’I know. But there is still a lot of ground to cover here.’ I say frantically trying to feel for her again. But there was still nothing.
We kept going into the night but we finally had to stop and set up camp again. And Carter hunted us something to eat. He managed to kill an elk so we skinned it and cooked it over the fire.
While we were eating I sat there looking at the map and looking at the list of mansions that were in the direction that we were headed in. I had a really good feeling that we were on the right track.
"The warriors that were following the road that took Tessa from the packhouse are coming this way to join us." Carter says sitting down next to the fire.
"Alright. How many are there?" I asked.
"About 30. We aren’t going to go unnoticed near human towns." He says.
"We will just have to give the towns a wide birth. If the towns are on the list then only a couple of us will go in and check it out." I explain.
"Alright. Her brothers are among those warriors." Cade says.
"I know. And I don’t really care about that right now. But I need everyone to understand that this is our life now. We aren’t going home again until she’s found. There’s no way I am going home again without her." I blurt out. They both looked at me for a moment before they finally shook their heads in acknowledgement. I don’t think they realized that we weren’t going home until we found her.
They probably thought that we would go as far as this list took us. But I wasn’t stopping there. I will tear this entire country apart if I have to to find her. They should have know that. That was kind of a given.
TESSA POV
I had been unshackled and supervised in my room for about an hour without actually talking to anyone that was supervising me until I caught the scent of a wolf nearby. I heard him coming up the stairs and he came to the doorway of my bedroom.
"Where’s Katherine?" He asked.
"I don’t know. She left here pretty pissed off so I suggest you wait for a while to talk to her." One of the guards told him. And the werewolf looked over at me.
"Why is her shackle off?" He asked urgently.
"Because she said that it was burning into her skin. We’re leaving it off for a little while. That’s why we’re in here supervising her." The guard said.
"You fucking idiots. If she’s not wearing the silver then her mate can feel her. The longer the silver is off, the closer he is to finding us. Their bond is drawing him straight to us." The werewolf yelled at them. And the guard raced over and grabbed the shackle but when he grabbed my leg I kicked him in the face.
"Fuck off asshole." I yelled as he flew backwards with a broken nose. And then I got intense pain in my stomach and I fell back on the bed holding my stomach.
I looked up and the witch had her hand extended chanting something and I knew that she was hurting my baby.
"You bitch. Leave it alone. The baby never did anything to you." I yelled while writhing in pain. But it was enough for that guard to get the shackle back on my ankle and he threw me back on the bed.
"That chain is staying on you for the rest of your stay with us." He insisted.
"Fuck you prick." I spat at him. And now that I was chained up again, they all left my room and I was left alone again.
I liked being alone. But now I knew that Tyler couldn’t feel me. But maybe I had given him enough time to come in the right direction. Maybe it was enough time for him to realize that I wasn’t dead. It was enough time for him to get a little closer to finding me. Because there was no doubt in my mind that he was out there looking for me.
