Chapter 36: Ch 36 - Trial of Perception (2)
Realizing the trajectory of these arrows was set in a way to cut off his escapes, Kai decided to opt for the most basic technique that could either save his life or end it all right away.
Using his left leg as his balance, Kai kicked the ground with his right and spun quickly towards his left side—creating a rather dangerous but effective shield.
The arrow heads grazed his body—giving in some light cuts along the sides—before deflecting towards the ground and snapping into pieces.
Realizing that he had finally saved himself from a potentially dangerous shot, he let out a long, deep breath.
At the same time, he raised both of his hands and led them to his face. With a loud, raspy sound echoing through the realm, he slapped himself as if trying to wake himself up.
’Wake up! Can’t afford to die in mere Trials!!!’
Kai then began walking in a straight direction while mumbling words under his breath.
"If I sit down again, same shit is bound to happen again, no way in hell I’m letting that happen."
For several moments, he kept walking in the same direction while his eyes scanned through the entire area.
Suddenly, his steps came to a halt as a system window materialized righthad in front of his eyes.

[Next, The Sense of Smell is being sealed away...]
---
Kai stared at the window with firm eyes, patiently waiting for his body to react abnormally just like it did before; however, nothing such as happened.
Time passed just like sand from someone’s grasp and just like that, several minutes went by.
’It’s almost the time for the third one to appear, but still, there are no signs of any trial here. What a let down...’ Kai thought as he sighed in disappointment.
For several minutes, he had been doing nothing but walking in all sorts of directions, waiting for something to happen.
Although, luck didn’t seem to be on his side.
All of a sudden, Kai felt as if his fingers and toes were slowly growing numb.
For a second, he thought that maybe it was because he was exhausted and had stopped.
He tried shaking his arms and legs to relieve some blood pressure however nothing seemed to be working.
That was until, he saw a small, dust like particle floating in the air.
His eyes instantly widened as he understood what had happened.
It wasn’t something as trivial as exhaustion. But something that could without a doubt, kill him like a ticking time bomb.
’I didn’t expect poison..’
He quickly dropped to the ground and sit with his legs crossed and put his hands on his knees, slowly taking in a deep breath and letting it out at an equal speed.
’The fact that I got infected means that the entire air has been polluted, so there is no point in running to a completely different side. Additionally, neither do I have any idea if the air will improve after this nor about the potency or kind of the poison.’
His heartbeat dropped, slowing down to the point that it felt barely alive.
’It sounds stupid but I guess I have no choice but to try not doing anything.’
Just like he said, it was a stupid move—but the only one that made sense.
The numbness grew with passing time, slowly devouring his body’s senses bit by bit, while all he could do was to pray.
Pressured by the poison, his chest began to grow heavier with each second, almost as if someone was pressing against him.
*Ding!*
With the sudden sound of a ring-like alert echoing through Kai’s head, the system window materialized once again.
---
[Next, the Sense of Touch is being sealed...]
---
Kai hadn’t opened his eyes yet, but he could already guess the contents of the system notification.
On the contrary, his breathing became normal as he noticed as if the dust in the air had finally begun to filter out.
And just like that, Kai overcame his second sense while the third sense—Touch was sealed away.
At first, it was hard for him to even stand up, since he couldn’t feel anything in his body, but soon, he got the hang of it.
This time as well, he was met with arrows, however, more in quantity and in precision.
With two of his three essential senses gone, Kai was forced to depend on his eyesight.
And because his eyes could not cover the entire space, he failed to dodge all of the arrows.
Then, with 5 arrows dug deep inside his back and two piercing through his guts, Kai made it through the third sense and his fourth sense—taste was sealed away all the same.
In a state where blood dripped down his wounds continuously, Kai awaited his next trial.
Not because he couldn’t feel any pain, but because it had become all too common for him to react, in fact, if anything, it only excited and encouraged him more.
The Sense of Taste seemed too dumb to him for some reason, as there was no way for such a sense to be trialed.
However, it was way worse than he had expected.
With most of his senses gone, his brain got confused and sent emergency signals all the way to his body, slowly shutting down his systems as it interpreted Kai’s conditions as Death.
And yet, Kai survived with little to no issues.
Why?
Because he had seen death face to face and survived. Not once, but twice. And that too, in a situation a thousand times dire than this.
To him, this was nothing more than a big disappointment.
In one way or another, he seemed extremely disappointed in the whole Trial of Perception since he could not do the things that had recently made his heart race like never before—Fighting with his life on the line, he missed it.
And then, at last, came the last part of the Trial of Perception, and unlike his past encounters, unknowingly, it made Kai desperately rethink his life’s decisions.
