Chapter 200: [Bonus Chapter]What She Asked

"I see that you... Do you think it’s not a good idea?" Rory asked Liam.

Liam cleared his throat and wetted his lips. He fixed his collar as it is his nervous tick when he was discussing business. He never discussed business with his wife before. So, he was a little nervous about his delivery.

He can’t say that it is a cut-and-dried situation, and it is close to impossible to bring his old company to its former glory. Not to mention, he is not that interested in it either.

He wanted to know why she asks that of him though. He leaned on the counter and looked at her. "No, let me hear it first. Why?" he asked.

"Yeah," Rory was about to speak, and the oven beeped. She tucked the chicken in the oven and leaned on the refrigerator.

"I am not good at business, Fizzy. You are. You have more experience than I do. Successful experience. But I know this... Investments and connections are very important for any business to succeed. And one of the main reasons LR Holdings had to file for bankruptcy is because the investors backed off...the connections are severed, am I right? And so, the value plummeted."

Liam nodded. A whole lot went on that led to the collapse, but it could be put like this in simple terms. Their company lost its value because no one wanted to associate with a serial killer.

"They all know who you are, right?" Rory asked. "So technically you are not a very ideal partner. That’s why investors are still a bit hesitant in involving you even though you are exonerated, right?"

Liam looked at her. He wanted her to get to the point. He was getting a little impatient. What she said is all true and it hurt.

"That’s why," Rory took a step forward. "That’s why you have to bring back your old company."

"I still don’t understand," Liam said. He couldn’t see why that is the reason to build the old company back. That’s the reason to abandon it. He just has to wait until the credits are paid and after that, he can start a new business.

"Do you see that, Fizzy...?" she pointed at the window. "That billboard which is now empty had a large picture of you promoting your company..." she looked at him and her eyes reddened. "I saw it, Fizzy... I saw it when people spat on your pictures and tore the billboards with your picture on them. That billboard...someone complained and took down your picture when you were in prison on false charges..."

Liam took in a deep breath. He could get where she is going with it. It was a tough time, yes. But he was over it. It was egoistic of him to plaster his face all over the town. He is not going to make that mistake ever again.

"Sidney... that b*tch..." Rory gritted her teeth. "She still thinks that you went to the place you were because of her husband’s connections. She never acknowledged your hard work."

"Well, it is partly true that I had it easy because of..." Liam let out a sigh. "But I had to work really hard. There were days when I didn’t have the time to sleep. But listen, Cherry...Even if I bring that company back with my blood and sweat, there are going to be people like Sidney who would find some other reason to disparage me, to bring me down. They’d probably say that your high-level connections made me successful, or they might even say that I was lucky. That doesn’t mean I should walk through fire..."

"But I want you to," Rory pouted. "Everyone knows who you are and what your background is. You cannot deny that. But you can tell them that you are a different person by..." she stopped.

She clenched her jaw and poured herself a glass of wine. Liam waited as she slowly sipped the wine. She didn’t drink wine for a long time. But she had started to savor wine once more.

It appeared that she is going to say something that is hard to speak of.

"Did you know that guy named that company ’Little Rose’ and not his initials?" she asked.

Liam nodded. "After his mother..." he cleared his throat. That’s what he made everyone believe but then they all learned that Roisin was not his mother. "After the woman he first killed," he answered.

Rory bit her lips. "He called me little rose too..." she said. "That night... in the basement...he..."

Her chest went heavy. Thinking about that night...the scent of wine mixed with blood, the scattered glasses, that lustful look...

Liam tensed as he heard the pain in her voice. Before he could get close to her, she continued,

"His company is destroyed, Fizzy. I won’t shed a tear for that. But I don’t want your hard work to be buried with his sinful gain. When people think that he lost everything, your company should not be one of them. Your work cannot be lumped with his work like that. Your company was yours. So, what if he invested some money? It still was your company. It cannot die," she said and choked.

She took another gulp of wine. Liam let out a deep breath. If she puts it like that, it makes sense. And he felt fuzzy in his heart. The warmth that she always radiates touched his heart after a very long time.

He knew what she thought of him in her heart. He never could measure up to "the Fitzwilliam" she holds in her heart. But he will try and try until he becomes "The great Fitzwilliam" in her heart. He had hopes that with her support he can attain that greatness.

He looked at her with a smile as she continued. Oh, how beautiful she was!

"You have his blood, that’s undeniable. But you are not going to be the legacy he’s leaving behind. You are not going to be associated with his failure. You are going to be someone else. Someone much greater. And I don’t want to be the silly little rose he named his company after. I don’t want to be remembered in the future merely as some perverted psycho’s obsession," she added and placed the wine glass on the counter.

"What do you want?" Liam asked, his lips curved to a smirk. His wife rarely asks anything of him (to which he listens). But this time, he wanted to give her what she wanted.

"Fitzwilliam," Rory met his eyes. "Make me an Empress."

Liam’s eyes widened.

An Empress?
