The Secret Obsession of the CEO -
Chapter 184: Her Decision
Chapter 184: Her Decision
"I want a divorce," Rory told Liam.
She didn’t want to wait to talk about it. There still was some hurt left in her heart when he came and asked the same from her without even talking to her about it. It might have been a leftover resentment from the past, but she didn’t want to wait to tell him that.
It’s impossible between them after this.
She expected him to react to that negatively. She thought that he might say that he won’t agree to it, or that there was a chance that he wanted to bring that up himself. She didn’t think that he wanted to be with her all that much.
He said nothing. The window was in front of his face and the sunlight illuminated his skin. But he would look much better in the moonlight as she had known.
She closed her eyes remembering the past she thought would be her future.
Those woods, those chirps of those insects, and the gentle moonlight slipping between the leaves of the thick trees and dancing on his face... That annoyingly captivating smirk that danced on his lips... Those blue eyes that would look at her hiding a thousand secrets and yet would make her heart skip a beat... His gentle fingers would slide through her hair caressing her scalp and her heart along... The kisses they shared, the words that were meaningless when spoken, and yet make pleasant memories when looked back...
Their first kiss that was in front of others and yet she kissed him with only him in her eyes and heart, the night he confessed with a backdrop of the Northern lights...
The memories that were so close to her heart, the way they make her feel just by thinking about it...
Do I even want to lose them all?
Tears collected in her eyes, and she didn’t want to let them out. There should be no second-guessing her decision. It is for the best. She tried to open her eyes and she didn’t want to.
"Did you hear me?" she asked him, finally having the guts to open her eyes. "I want a divorce," she repeated.
Liam pressed his lips. She expected him to get angry. But he just looked at her and took in a deep breath. He must have heard her. And if he is not talking about it, what should she do?
She didn’t feel like thinking too much. Her head was heavy. She didn’t want to exert so much pressure on her poor brain. She was drained.
"Ellie is sick and is in the ER," Liam said.
"Sick?" Rory opened her eyes and shouted in panic. "What’s wrong with her?" She tried to sit up.
On Liam’s face, there was a calmness she had never seen on his face when he was awake. He sleeps with that expression on his face after making love, but he always held some stress on his face when he was awake. She never had thought that he could be this calm when he is awake.
"Fever. But don’t worry. Claire is with our daughter looking after her," he said with the corners of his lips tilted up slightly. "We can visit her if you want to..." He observed her reaction.
Our daughter...
That word hacked her heart more than it should have. She named her Aurelia, linking her name and Liam’s name. But now...
She still is her daughter but at that moment, all she felt was... She didn’t know what she felt. Her heart skipped a beat as if she was jumping off a high building, and she didn’t want to look at the little face.
She didn’t have the guts to look at those bright blue eyes.
She sensed that her reaction now wouldn’t be very good. Liam would probably despise seeing her fear to look at her own daughter. She was afraid to look at his eyes too.
Who will she see in those eyes? Those two, she loved more than anything. And just a word from that monster shook her foundation.
Did she even love them? How despicable is she? Maybe she is a sociopath like her grandmother said. Since when Agnes Roberts was wrong? She must have seen through her all the while.
She curled up on the bed turning her back to Liam. She is not worthy of anything good. They probably will be fine on their own. Maybe that’s why Liam is not even reacting to her request. Everyone knew that she is useless and that’s why they poured love on her to not make her feel bad. And somehow, she ended up thinking that she was special because everyone loved her.
Now she knows. She is nothing. She could only attract the obsession of psychopaths. And nothing good will come out of her.
She didn’t even feel like crying. She was so miserable; she fell asleep in her misery. She often would hear noises around her. But she didn’t feel like waking up.
-----
Liam sat on the chair folding his hands over his chest. He kept on staring at her as if that would make her react. But she never looked at him.
She fell asleep almost immediately as if she didn’t just ask an absurd thing out of him.
Divorce? For real? Why? For what reason does she want the divorce?
He tried to distract her. It was lowly of him to use their daughter, but he had to inform of their daughter’s health to her.
When she panicked, he knew that is her true heart. Their daughter was one of the main reasons she didn’t want the divorce back then. And she won’t be of sound mind if she asked for it now.
But she only left him panicked after she went back to sleep.
What can he do when she is not even moved by Ellie’s health?
He bowed his head. His shirt was wet. He didn’t realize that he was crying.
What could he do when his wife had wiped all the emotions out of her heart, and nothing moves her? What could he do?
------
Rory slept most of the time unless she had to use the bathroom.
Liam tried to wake her up a couple of times to her memory. But she didn’t want to look at him. She heard the cooing of the baby once or twice.
Ellie is fine...
She remembered thinking that. She might have felt the little hands touching her cheeks once or twice. But she didn’t want to wake up. She was asleep. She had never slept that much in her life. But she slept and slept and still, it was never enough.
A couple of times, her nightmare returned. This time, the dark figure was not dark. It had a face, Lennon’s face. She gasped for breath, and since she was in the hospital, help arrived almost immediately.
She didn’t want to leave the hospital. It would be better if she stayed where it is safe for her.
But there were mild annoyances that disturbed her from time to time.
Once she heard the angry voice of Derick shouting at her to wake up and do something. But she was not scared of him. He then talked about how worried she is making him. She didn’t want to care about how he felt.
Why should he care?
Then there were the annoying ones who called themselves doctors... They came one by one, and the frequency of their visits increased the more she stayed in the hospital.
She did not want to stay in the hospital anymore.
Liam was there, always. Like how her cot was there in her room all the time, he was there too. He would help her when she wanted to use the restroom, and he always tried to feed her something whenever she opened her eyes.
She didn’t even know why he stayed there with her. He should have other important things to handle. And he is not her husband anymore. He is not obligated to stay with her in the hospital.
She told him once or twice to leave her alone. He would look at her without speaking much. And since she was scared to look at him in the eyes, that talk didn’t lead anywhere.
She decided to leave him. And she knew that it was the best decision for both of them. But she didn’t find her heart to be at peace when she thought about it.
She thought that it is normal considering that it was a tough decision.
Although she avoided asking about Ellie, he would give him information pertaining to that child. Apparently, that child was staying in a hotel with Frank and Claire. And appreantly, that child had started her semi-solid food.
That was a milestone! Good for that child!
That child...
That child...
That thought made her stomach turn and her chest squeeze. She wailed in pain. Holding her stomach, she vomited the little food Liam had forced down her throat.
That child is her child... Her child!
She’s not "that" child. She is "my" child.
What am I doing?
She, sitting on her high horse, judged Liam’s mother for turning a blind eye to him. But isn’t she worse? At least Liam’s mother had postpartum depression that made her unattached to her child as it was left untreated.
What is wrong with me? Nothing!
I’m just a sociopath...
Maybe, Ellie is better off without me.
