The Secret Obsession of the CEO
Chapter 132: Asking For Help

Chapter 132: Asking For Help

Sitting at the dining table, Rory sipped the coffee. The morning sun rays spilled in through the large windows. The birds were chirping, the dewdrops were perching on the blades of the grass like pearls.

The day has begun.

Rory didn’t even finish the previous day with sleep. She didn’t sleep the entire night, and though her head felt heavy, she did not feel tired at all.

Julia and Claire were in the kitchen, chatting with themselves about mundane things. They might be talking to her too, but Rory could not hear a word they said. She had tuned herself out of their conversation.

Claire cupped her hands over Rory’s hands holding the coffee mug and said something. Rory tried to listen but she couldn’t hear a word. She just smiled and nodded.

Her phone blinked and her eyes widened as it was an unknown number. She thought it might be Liam calling from some phone.

She answered the call immediately.

"Mrs. Roberts, this is Bianca from Evening News TV. May I ask for an~"

*Beep*

Rory ended the call. Her heart sank. If one of the reporters knows her phone number, everyone will know. She can’t switch off the phone either. She might get important calls.

She didn’t know what to do or who to ask for help. She is in a family where everyone is influential in their own way, but she cannot ask anyone for help.

She saw Derick and Lennon getting on the porch after a run. Derick got Lennon’s towel that fell on the ground and passed it to him.

That is some level of helping tendency... to the point of almost being a...

What is going on there?

She placed the coffee mug on the table and walked out passing Derick. "Stop! Where are you going?" Derick stopped her holding her arm.

"Just for a walk..." she shrugged off his grip.

"You look terrible! Did you sleep last night?" Derick asked.

His eyebrows were pinched together and his eyes were filled with concern.

Rory said nothing and walked away.

"You can’t do anything, for now, Rory!" Derick shouted. "The lawyer will take care of everything."

She did not respond to him. She heard Derick saying some excuse to Lennon and he ran after her.

"Stop!" He grabbed her arm once more.

"What?" she looked at him.

She was annoyed.

"Don’t worry over things you can do nothing about, Rory... Come on in. Have some sleep," he tried to pull her into a hug.

"Let go, you sick son of a b*tch!" Rory shouted and got out of his grip. "Don’t touch me!"

"What?" Derick was perplexed. He extended his hands out and his shoulders dropped as he didn’t expect to see that expression on her face. "Rory, what’s the matter?" he asked and tried to get closer to her.

Rory clenched his jaws and wiped her face with the sleeves of her sweatshirt. Well, it is Liam’s shirt and it had his lingering scent on it. She took in a deep breath. She cannot lose her composure now.

"You..." she pointed her finger at him. "You said there are corrupted officers in your agency and yet, you can be relaxed when your cousin is..."

Her lips trembled and she wiped the corner of her eyes. "Just leave me alone. I have to save my husband."

She turned and ran inside the woods.

"F*ck this!" Derick stomped on the floor in annoyance. "That idiot is going to screw up everything!"

Julia walked to Derick and patted his back to calm him down. She also thought that Rory is worrying too much over things that she had no control over.

Sometimes, staying still would do a lot more good than fighting.

"Go easy on her, Derick. He is her world..." Lennon patted Derick’s shoulder and walked up the stairs.

"That’s what I am worried about...Oh, Jules... I fear that she’s going to lose herself..." Derick leaned on Julia’s shoulder.

She hugged him. "But we are all here. We won’t let her lose herself. Don’t worry. She is a smart one..." Julia said words of comfort.

Rory walked inside the woods. She knew that is the safe place for her as of now. As eager the reporters are to talk to her, no one would be foolish enough to get inside the woods.

Looking at the sky that was barely visible amongst the blanket of trees, she walked folding her hands over her chest.

She then picked up her phone. Whatever others may say, she thought that it would be better if she is where Liam would be. In LA.

She looked for first-class tickets as she knew that even if the reporters got onto the same flight, they won’t be allowed to disturb her in the first class. And Ellie would be more comfortable too.

After staying here for almost ten days, a lot has changed for Ellie too. She no longer liked the carrycot. And she started to get soothed by her father’s scent. In just a day, Rory could say that Ellie is missing her dad.

That poor child has no words to express her emotions, but Rory could feel the little restlessness and the slight jitters she started to have. She got very attached to her father in the past few days and it showed.

She found a perfect ticket for the next day that she was happy about. She was about to pay for the tickets when the unusual happened.

Her payment did not go through.

She used every card and method of payment but no payment went through. She called the bank. They put her on hold and Rory waited, leaning on a tree. She got so restless and rocked herself to compose herself.

She noticed someone wearing hot pink pajamas walking in between the trees. Only Sidney can afford to wear such ridiculously expensive PJs.

Sidney turned to her side and as she recognized Rory, she waved her hand. She then gestured for her to wait and walked toward her. Even from that distance, Rory could see the dark circles around her eyes.

Guess, I am not the only one scared to sleep, huh? Another one is depressed enough to avoid sleep!

Rory felt bad for the baby in her belly. That poor baby will be suffering because of the stress Sidney is in.

"Yes," Rory answered the customer service assistant who came back to the line.

"I’m sorry, Ms. Roberts. But your accounts have been frozen because they are linked to a federal investigation. You should talk to...."

Rory’s hand holding the phone lowered as she didn’t have the strength to hold them.

Liam got arrested the last night, and today my accounts are frozen. What is going on?

"Are you okay?" Sidney asked.

"That’s rich coming from you," Rory chuckled.

Sidney laughed. Rory observed her. Sidney was a very beautiful woman... She still is, even with all the alterations, she did to her face. But if she is honest, she would say that Sidney looked her best with her innocence and her original face.

What forced her to do all that to her face? She held the title of the most beautiful woman in the universe and she thought that she still was not pretty. She still saw imperfections on her face?

They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder. What did Sidney see in her reflection?

In the end, everything boils down to what you feel in your heart. Nothing that anyone says or does will affect you if you have a strong mind.

"You’re staring..." Sidney said and Rory averted her eyes.

"Sorry."

"No... No... I don’t mind..." Sidney looked in the distance. It was as if she could read what Rory was thinking and she didn’t bother to be worried about what she thought about her.

Inside her tired eyes, a layer of mist formed.

"You wanted to ask me something. I can talk to someone who can help you," Rory said.

She did not want to talk about the suicide attempt to Sidney. She did what she did. And she can have her reasons. Rory just wanted to help her with what she asked so it does not happen again.

She needed some distraction.

"Can you?" Sidney’s face brightened. "It’s about a...friend of mine... He...wait..." Sidney took a step back and her eyes widened with terror.

"You are not going to ask for Derick’s help, are you?" Sidney asked.

"What? Him? No! I’m not..." Speaking about Derick made her skin crawl.

Sidney observed Rory. Her lips curved to a smirk seeing her face. She looked affected by something.

"This friend... I need to know if he is safe. I talked to him last night, but I didn’t hear from him this morning. He’s..." Sidney gulped. "I was thinking of starting a business and I did so without my husband’s knowledge..."

"Hmm... You wanted to make something of yourself. I understand," Rory nodded.

It is good for her. She does not have to live in the shadow of her husband.

"Yes..." Sidney let out a sigh of relief and held Rory’s hands. "Thank you for understanding."

"Well, I spent a lot of money... the money I saved, you know... And now he is not answering me... My husband cannot know..." Sidney insisted.

"Oh, I can help," Rory nodded and asked her about the details of that person.

Sidney left and Rory made a call.

"Ian, I need your help."
