Chapter 100: His Involvement

Derick spared a glance at Rory but he went straight to Liam.

"Alright, Liam. Time to get honest. What do I need to know?" Derick asked Liam shaking his shoulders. Because from what I know till now... It’s bad..."

"What do you need to know? He didn’t do it. That is all!" Rory answered. She did not like Derick using this tone on Liam.

"Oh, you stupid f*cking..." Derick gritted his teeth at, Rory. "What do you know other than taking his side? Like a f*cking ostrich! Get your head out of the f*cking hole and look~"

"Derick," Rory furrowed her brows. "What is happening?"

She lowered her voice for the sake of Ellie, but no one can use this condescending tone on her either. Not even Derick.

Derick cussed under his breath and took in a deep breath to compose himself. He knows he cannot disrespect Rory. She won’t listen to him.

"Check the top comment on his post where he...." Derick turned to look at Liam.

"Did you have to do this today? Of all the time you had? Didn’t you know that body might be Allison? Didn’t you predict what would happen once they...Oh, God!" Derick ran his fingers through his hair looking at the ceiling.

Rory quickly checked his post and the top comment was a very long one; a thread. And as many were interacting with that comment and were reacting to it, that comment was on the top.

Rory took a glance at that comment that was more than 600 words long. It was almost an essay. The gist of it was...

The main reply said that everyone in his office knows that Allison Stewart is his girlfriend. And they gave some "proof" that they are telling the truth. There were two attached photographs. In the first photograph, Liam and Allison were in the corner of their office. Liam’s hand was on Allison’s waist and he was leaning forward whispering something to Allison.

Or he might be kissing her.

In the next, Liam was chewing off the cherry from Allison’s drink. The playful smirk on his face for some reason hacked Rory’s heart. He looked a little flushed like everyone else around him—maybe because it was an office party?

Rory’s hands trembled to see the pictures. Cherry... That’s his nickname for her and he was... From Allison’s hand... Heh!

She tried not to look at the pictures and read further.

Why now?

That person asked. They wanted to know why Liam wanted to post about his "girls" right when Allison went missing.

The replies to that reply were all different. And one reply that the majority of them agreed on is that comment that said "Since time Infinitum the reason a man kills his sidekick has been consistent" And below that comment was a gif of a pregnant woman.

Rory gulped. "Liam..." Her voice shook. He didn’t even look at her and she continued reading.

They even added Rory’s visit and her fight with Allison as if she was there to confront the mistress. And they revealed that they filed for divorce but judging by this post, they felt like there won’t be a divorce.

The last reply in that thread was them lamenting the loss of a life of a woman and her baby just because a millionaire wanted to hide his affair.

"Wait... Has it been confirmed? Was Allison pregnant?" Rory asked Derick.

Derick looked at Liam and he shook his head.

"What does that mean? Speak up, idiot! You know they can find out if she was pregnant just with her blood, right? They don’t even have to find the baby!" Derick screamed.

Liam was not answering. He looked like he was in a different world than them. Rory hugged Ellie who was getting disturbed by the noise around her.

She felt like all her strength was leaving her. She didn’t know what was happening. Liam looked blank. Derick was shouting. The comment she read...

What is happening? What is going on?

"It won’t be Liam’s baby even if they find it," Rory said, trying to get Liam to say something. "Right, Fizzy?"

There was no answer from Liam.

Derick sat in the bed and rubbed his firehead with his fingers. "Already the other woman’s case is unresolved and now this..."

Rory felt like floating like she was detached. She knew a terrible thing is happening around her but out of shock, she couldn’t express the pain in her heart.

Why isn’t Fizzy saying anything?

"What other woman?" She asked.

She even surprised herself with her ability to think rationally still.

She felt like she was standing on a cliff... A deep, dark abyss is in front of her. She wanted to step back, but for some reason, she could only move forward. She wanted to close her eyes but she could not control anything around her. So she averted her eyes as if that would help her escape from this terrible situation.

She knew the implications of Allison’s death case would be in them. It would ruin them entirely. If she thought having a town hate her was hard, imagine an entire country hating her?

But she didn’t want to think about that at all. She wanted to know more details. She wanted to find out if there is a way out.

She cannot fall into that abyss. Not when she is holding Ellie.

Derick looked at her and all she saw was pity in his eyes.

"Are you talking about Laura Brown?" She asked and Derick let out a sigh.

"Fizzy..?" With a shaking voice, she looked at Liam once more. But he was starting blankly. "Fizzy, say something!" She started sobbing. She didn’t know where those sobs came from. She wasn’t even crying.

Derick offered her a glass of water and she drank it. The pain in her chest only increased. She placed Ellie on the bed and settled her. And then she ran to Liam.

"Fizzy," she spoke soft and held his hand. "Fizzy, please tell me what happened..." The tears she was reeling back flowed freely as she saw Liam still unresponsive.

"Why are you even trying, Rory?" Derick stood up shaking his head. "Look at him... You give and give and give... You always take his side. And what does he do in return?"

Derick pointed at Liam who was blank. "He can’t even speak the truth for you," Derick said and he looked very sad.

"He said he was getting framed!" Rory ran to Derick and held his hand. She quickly wiped her tears on her sleeves. "Someone is planning to frame him. That’s why everything is perfect... Did you guys find out who posted that comment yet? It must be some jealous employee or someone who got fired who is spreading rumors. And that’s why everything points to Liam."

"Framed? Is that what he told you?" Derick scoffed. "Huh, Liam? What? You expected that they will announce that the dead body was Allison today? Ah... Spousal privilege... Is that why you didn’t want to divorce her anymore? A beautiful wife and a baby... If they are getting involved that you won’t get the chair? Is that-"

"Derick!" Rory stopped him from speaking further. "Leave, please..." She showed him the door.

Derick let out a sigh. "They are avoiding me-my colleagues... I won’t be in the case. You know what that means. He is suspect number 1. Unless we find someone much perfect to replace Liam... They will try and find a way to arrest Liam..."

"Yes, thank you for your input," Rory smiled and walked to the door and opened it.

Derick gulped seeing that he has hurt Rory. "But if he is getting framed... It would be better for you two to get a lawyer and not talk to anyone about anything."

"But wouldn’t that confirm that he is the culprit?" Rory asked.

"This is a federal case and once charged, no one will be able to save him. It will be a media circus and... It’s... It’s hard, but let’s try our best to not let him get charged, " Derick patted her head.

"Wait... You are going to help us?" She asked with her eyebrows furrowed.

"Take care, Rory... And get discharged immediately..." He said looking around. "It won’t be safe for you here tonight."

She nodded as she agreed with him. She didn’t know how her grandmother said the same thing but she said that even before everything got so serious.

Was that grandma’s intuition?

After Derick left, Rory went to Liam.

"Is this what you wanted to talk to me about?" She asked and he nodded.

"You can leave me if you..." His lips trembled. "Those pictures are not... I don’t know who took it. It’s the angle and..."

"Well, you said you did not sleep with Allison and I’m going to take your word for it. Now get going... Prepare for my discharge, " she helped him up.

Liam left the room looking back at her a couple of times. The moment he left the room and she heard the door close, she plopped on the bed. Burying her head in the pillow, she screamed.

I shouldn’t have walked away just because he asked for the divorce... If I stood my ground and refused to sign those stupid f*ckig papers, all these could have been avoided!

Rory sat up and wiped the tears from her face. She looked at Ellie, sleeping peacefully without care.

I can’t give up now, can I? I can’t!
