Chapter 61: Chapter 61: Xiao Xi, I miss you
The two of them got their meals in the cafeteria and found a corner to sit down. Han Xi ate her food absent-mindedly, her head bowed.
"Xiao Xi, what’s wrong?" Chen Zheng couldn’t help but ask, seeing her low spirits.
Han Xi looked up and took a soft breath, "I’m fine, just... thinking about the patients."
Chen Zheng nodded half-heartedly, cutting the steak on his plate into pieces and putting them on Han Xi’s dish. "Eat more meat; you look thinner these days."
Staring at the pieces of steak, Han Xi’s mind uncontrollably flashed back to the dismembered dead cats, and she hurriedly pushed the tray away in fright.
"What’s the matter?"
Han Xi’s hands trembled, gripping the corners of her white coat, her face pale without a trace of blood. "I’m fine, I... I want to go back now."
After saying that, Han Xi got up and walked outside. Chen Zheng worriedly followed her out. "Xiao Xi, did something happen?"
Han Xi shook her head, not wanting to say anything.
After they came out of the elevator, Han Xi suddenly remembered she had surgery scheduled in the afternoon, but she felt her current state was not suited for surgery.
"Chen Zheng, I have surgery this afternoon. Can you perform it for me?"
"Sure, but what’s really going on with you?"
Chen Zheng was very concerned about Han Xi. Even when she was sick or uncomfortable before, she never said she couldn’t do surgery.
Han Xi managed a weak smile. "I’m just a bit under the weather."
Chen Zheng frowned, not believing her, but ultimately refrained from asking further.
When Han Xi returned to her office, she saw Lu Jinghan by the window smoking. Honestly, she didn’t feel like seeing this man right now.
Upon hearing footsteps, Lu Jinghan turned around, anxiously asking, "Where did you go? I called, and you didn’t answer."
Earlier, Lu Jinghan had called Han Xi multiple times from the office, but she never answered. Worried that something might have happened again, he drove straight to the hospital.
"I went to eat and left my phone on the table."
Lu Jinghan, noticing Han Xi’s somewhat pale face, walked over and pulled her into his arms. "Xiao Xi, I missed you."
Heaven knows how worried Lu Jinghan was when his calls to Han Xi went unanswered, fearing that the crazy woman Lin Weiyang might do something again.
Before Han Xi could speak, the office door was pushed open, and Chen Zheng walked in with a piece of cake. Seeing the two embraced, his expression darkened briefly.
Han Xi awkwardly pushed away Lu Jinghan’s arms and spoke, "Chen Zheng, why are you here?"
Chen Zheng placed the cake on the table. "I noticed you didn’t eat much during lunch, so I brought this in case your stomach hurts."
"Thank you."
Chen Zheng glanced at Lu Jinghan and continued, "Regarding the afternoon surgery patient, give me her records. If you’re really uncomfortable, just take time off and go home to rest. Don’t push yourself."
Han Xi took the patient’s files from the drawer and handed them to Chen Zheng. "Thanks for taking over the surgery."
"If you really want to thank me, just treat me to a meal someday."
Han Xi smiled. "Sure."
Lu Jinghan watched the two in front of him, his dark eyes sinking.
After Chen Zheng left, Lu Jinghan looked at Han Xi. "Are you feeling unwell? Would you like to go home and rest?"
Han Xi looked up, meeting Lu Jinghan’s deep eyes, hesitating for a few seconds before speaking. "I keep thinking about those dead cats from yesterday. It scares me. I don’t even know who holds such a grudge against me to send something like that home."
