Chapter 78: Severed Head
Chapter 78: Severed Head
For a fraction of a second before the pole reached Iyoha’s chest, the alpha’s life suddenly flashed in front of his eyes.
’Is this really the end for me?’ Iyoha asked himself.
He felt that it was such a waste when his pack’s population was finally rising.
Kingdoms were expanding every year back then and it left them with no permanent territory for very long with the competition on mouths to feed. Humans were the worst, as they procreate at such exponential speed, they eventually surpassed the werewolves.
Monsters within the continent were evolving in time as well. Not only did human and the other races that had magic grew in number, their capacity to kill had improved as well.
Even with their superior strength and speed, the werewolves and their dwindling fighting population didn’t really stand a good chance against thousands with weapons and spells.
Queen Euphemia and the Eastern Kingdom had been their saving grace.
She offered them a safe place with which new generation of cubs could run free without the fear of being hunted for food or game.
"AARGHHHKK!" Iyoha screamed as the sharp pain of the pole pierced through his chest.
The force at which the crown prince had thrown the pole sent the weaponized item through the werewolf, leaving a huge cavity where his chest should have been.
Instantly, blood escaped out of his mouth and the werewolf went completely motionless. He was merely a few meters away from the prince, just another step so he could reach Prince Dominick with his outstretched paws, claws unsheathed.
"Funny face you have there," Prince Dominick said with a smug and triumphant face.
He looked like he was pretty satisfied with his win, knowing he was able to get rid of one of the prominent werewolf packs in the whole continent.
Alpha Iyoha stood stock-still, the shock of the large pole eating almost his entire chest. The crown prince, thinking he had already won, walked closer to gloat at the werewolf’s death.
But little did Prince Dominick knew that the alpha was still breathing. Iyoha’s eyes had turned all white, temporary blindness occurring with the deadly hit. With only his keen sense of smell, the werewolf noticed the vampire’s scent coming closer.
"Mutt, you dare to challenge me but here you are now," Crown Prince Dominick spoke with a self-absorbed tone.
The arrogant prince leaned over to the still werewolf and blew air in his face, and then his ear. He played and laughed, having fun of mocking his opponent’s obvious defeat.
"Weak," the crown prince whispered in Alpha Iyoha’s ear, "you are weak and I thank you so much. The whole vampire kingdom of the West owes you this success. Thank you for trusting my bastard half-brother and for letting your guard down."
The alpha heard him clear even when he had been far away, but waited until he was close enough to respond.
"You... you think you won," the alpha responded gasping for air, "but all I know is that you won’t get what you tried so hard to achieve."
"Aww," Prince Dominick mockingly cooed, "you are one delusional animal. The Western Kingdom has been successful with every expansion we commenced. As the Crown Prince and commander of those expansions, I stand firm on saying the Eastern Kingdom has finally been conquered."
"You need to get your head down from that high chair you are seating in," Iyoha retorted to the prince, "I will gladly help you with that."
With the very last of his strengths, Alpha Iyoha reached out to the vampire prince’s head and without thinking twice, snapped his head with a swift twist. With his long and sharp claws, the alpha sliced his head off his body.
The prince’s head separated cleanly from his neck, his body slumping while his head dropped with a loud series of thuds. Blood scattered all around as Prince Dominick’s head bounced away.
The alpha couldn’t see the expression that got stuck to the prince’s face, disbelief and a clearly appalled look washing over him as the tables turned for the worse for him.
Hearing that there was no movement from the prince anymore, Iyoha finally joined him on the floor as the last of his knee strength faded.
Iyoha spluttered blood, his hollow chest drenched in his own blood.
"You will not take over a pure queen’s peaceful kingdom," Iyoha’s last words spilled out of his mouth, death finally claiming him into her welcoming arms.
A loud crack was heard right at the same time Princess Elysianne screamed for Teo to stop from killing the bastard prince.
The vampire knight’s heightened hearing alerted him of the Crown Prince’s heartbeat slowly fading. The spear was an inch’s distance away from Prince Aleksander’s forehead, and Elys’ chest almost burst with the rush of emotions that washed over her.
"Crown Prince!" Teo’s eyes widened with disbelief.
The vampire knight rushed over to where the crown prince and alpha werewolf fought. Elys was confused as to why Teo suddenly left, calling for the Crown Prince when he had this maniacal look in his eyes as he stared at Elys and brought his spear down for the kill.
She turned her attention to where the golden-haired vampire run, and a soft gasp came out of her.
"He’s dead..." she muttered under her breath as she saw first the large werewolf and his chest torn into a undeniable hole, blood spilling to the already bloody floor.
Her eyes looked away, and this time around, saw the crown prince’s head in Teo’s hands.
She was shocked at first, but taking the opportunity that was presented to her, Elys run towards her husband and immediately swung his arm over her shoulders to hoist him up.
’I am going crazy for saving this bastard,’ Elys thought at the back of her head. ’But if his warning ever meant anything, I hope it meant he is saveable.’
The princess saw Teo’s flustered expression as he picked up the crown prince’s severed head, his hands shaking in disbelief.
The pandemonium outside the throne room was slowly coming to a halt. Alpha Iyoha’s pack with the help of Cordelia and the rest of Noa’s men miraculously were able to defeat the vampires despite their advantageous magic.
The vampires that Prince Dominick brought with him were as arrogant as he was. And just as how he was wrong to have underestimated and looked down on Iyoha’s strength and will to defeat him, so were his men.
It was an ingenious plan that led them to make use of a potent poison from a rare flower the Eastern people had kept out of reach from outsiders.
Even Prince Dominick and Teo were oblivious of this, but the flower’s poison had been what King Raxus wanted from the Eastern Kingdom most and their vast collection of rare breed flora and fauna.
It wasn’t really matters of territorial expansion, but that of a possibility of using biological warfare aside from magic.
One wasn’t too ambitious to have it all when it was King Raxus Ardorlean of the West Kingdom was in question.
"Crown Prince," Teo’s hands trembled, his spear thrown to the side as he knelt and picked the prince’s head.
His piercing ocean blue eyes were left open, shocked and full of disbelief as Iyoha retaliated just seconds before he breathed his last.
Seeing Teo being distracted by the sudden death of the crown prince, Elys grabbed Aleksander by his belt and dragged the six-footer vampire who was probably almost twice her own body weight.
Truth be told, the vampire knight wasn’t really concerned with failing the Crown Prince Dominick because he played a bit with the slave princess, no.
Teo was more concerned with what King Raxus would do to him when he finally knew.
The Crown Prince Dominick was the favored son out of him ane Aleksander, the only royal heir of the vampires.
"Fuck, fuck, mother fucker," Teo sreamed in frustration. "That crazy king will have my head instead, for sure!"
What was he going to do now that he failed the task that was assigned to him? Was it too late to resume the mission to conquer the Eastern Kingdom instead and leave the prince afterwards, tell the king that the alpha werewolf killed Prince Dominick and that there was no possible way to stop it from happening as it occured while he was preoccupied with other enemies?
Through the corner of his eye, Teo caught sight of Elys dragging the bastard prince away from the throne room.
"Where do think you are going, princess?" Teo growled as he put the severed crown prince’s head down beside his lifeless and bloody body.
Elys wasn’t even able to turn around, as Teo suddenly zapped right in front of her.
His eyes were bloodshot, and his forehead had veins popping here and there.
"You chose wrong, princess," Teo hissed at the princess, "now siffer the consequences."
The vampire swung his spear, set to kill in a fit of rage.
