Chapter 232: Get Out Of Here

"Elysianne!"

The Western Queen blinked rapidly as she was pulled back into reality. Why did she suddenly think of Teacher and the days she spent in her little cottage as a child learning magic?

"You are all going to die in my hands," Queen Euphemia growled from afar. "For my people, for the Eastern Kingdom!"

Elys could feel the intensity of Euphemia’s hatred towards them. She could tell that the young girl truly loved her kingdom and her people, and in a sense, she knew that if the circumstances were different, the two of them would have made great allies.

Was it too much of her to disregard the Eastern Queen’s plea for Aleksander to face trial back then when Sir Noa showed up in their throne room? Had she been too absorbed by her own goals that she set aside justice for those who died innocent during Prince Dominick’s attack?

Perhaps she had been blinded by her own desires too.

Elys veered her attention back to the Eastern Queen. The miasma that had previously surrounded her like a thin cloud of smoke turned into thick dark clouds of purplish hue. Her body was plagued with blisters and boils, and the youthful look of her face was totally gone.

Queen Euphemia has shown her true colors – a corrupted human being that had a strong affinity to destruction.

Elys felt a hard tug on her hand and turned her eyes to glance at the worried face of her husband. His dark brows were knitted at the middle, wrinkling the skin on his forehead. But although he looked like that, Aleksander still looked quite dashing in his alabaster skin and golden eyes.

"Husband, what are you thinking?" Elys asked him.

"I think we might be in quite a troublesome situation, my queen," he sighed. "I can’t get a good eye contact with Queen Euphemia. It is hard to take her down like this if I can’t control her."

Elys eyes turned her head towards the Eastern Queen.

She looked like she was slowly preparing for a big attack, with all the thick miasma still growing around her. It came to a certain point that even Elys and Aleksander’s vision somehow turned misty.

"First and foremost, we need to get out of this enclosure that she has made," Elys told her husband. "We can’t do a thing in this environment – we need a way out."

"How?" Aleksander said as he kept his wife close to him.

His hand reached out to the dark wall behind him, and he hissed as the tip of his finger touched the dark swirling patterns of Queen Euphemia’s magic.

Elys pushed herself away from Aleksander’s protective arms and looked at the young Eastern Queen. She was slowly being engulfed by the miasma coming out from her, and Elys’ eyes squinted at her – a look of recognition and apprehension.

"I have never seen anything like this before," the vampire king said in disbelief.

"Me neither," Elys said as she squinted at the dark void that they were trapped in. "But Queen Euphemia... whatever she is at this moment, I have seen such a thing before."

"Isn’t that what they call corrupted?" Aleksander asked, "I have heard of it before, but never have I ever seen such a thing with my own eyes. Doesn’t legend tell of people who sold their souls to the devil in exchange for a wish become like that when they are under huge distress?"

"The legend is true, and I have seen it before with my own eyes in the form of my own Teacher," Elys said.

"Teacher? Like during your formal studies at the Northern Kingdom? Weren’t corrupted people immediately killed at sight?" Aleksander wondered out loud.

"I can hear you loud and clear, you worthless pieces of meatlogs not even worthy to be alive," came Queen Euphemia’s distorted voice from the huge congregation of miasma.

She was totally engulfed in the dark purplish smoke now. Not even a tiny glimpse of her was to be seen. Sir Noa still stood dazed where he was, a blank look painted on his face.

Elys raised her palms towards the large miasma. Chanting a few magical words, she enhanced her attack until she felt the mana that were gathering in her hands were more than enough.

Bright light gathered into a ball surrounding Elys’ outstretched hand. She pointed it right at the center of the ball of miasma, and with a swift flick, hurled the ball of light towards it.

A huge blast erupted as soon as her magic reached Euphemia’s place. Sir Noa was blown off by the blast’s impact, and his body was hurled like a ragdoll towards the other end of the dark void they were in.

Elys and Aleksander anticipated the Eastern Queen to bounce back, and just as they thought, Queen Euphemia emerged from the smoke scatheless.

"That felt nothing like a powerful Queen’s attack should be," she said, her voice mocking.

"And you look nothing like the beautiful and peaceful queen that you once were," Aleksander retorted, "I find it quite contradicting how you can be so destructive when you and your kingdom clearly did not allow magic, weapons, and any sort of violence at all."

"YOU HAVE CORNERED ME INTO REVERTING BACK TO THIS FORM!" the Eastern Queen screamed like a banshee.

Elys and Aleksander had to cover their ears to the earsplitting volume of Queen Euphemia’s voice. The more that she was angered, the more that she turned uglier. This time around, black blood oozed out from the corners of her eyes, her nostrils, and mouth.

The smell of rot wafted in the air, and it made breathing all the more painful when mixed with the stench of the miasma around Queen Euphemia.

"Elys, we really need to break this barrier she has created," Aleksander said.

If he had his weapon, it would have made it easier for him to slash at the burning wall of dark energy. However, with his bare hands, the vampire king couldn’t do a thing.

It was either he burned his hands until he could punch through a hole in the barrier, or he would create eye contact and try to control the Eastern Queen’s mind into stopping her rampage.

"Aleksander, stand back behind me," Elys said all of a sudden.

The vampire king raised an incredulous brow as he heard his wife’s request. It was a weird thing to ask of him, but he stepped aside and stood behind her as close as he could.

"Support me," Elys added quickly.

"What are you thinking of doing, my queen?" Aleksander asked her.

Elys tilted her head in an angle that allowed Aleksander to get a glimpse of half of her face.

"I am going to try and blast this thing into hundreds of pieces, of course," she replied to him.

A cocky grin was plastered on her face, and Aleksander couldn’t help but feel an overwhelming sense of awe at the confidence his wife exuded. But that confidence was actually laced with worry. Elys wasn’t entirely sure if her mana was enough to break through the barrier.

Her eyes looked at Sir Noa and then an idea suddenly struck her.

"Aleksander, can you free Sir Noa from your magic?" Elys asked her husband.

The young king’s brows raised even higher than before by her question.

"That is crazy, my queen! We barely are even handling ourselves in front of this equally crazy rampaging corrupted queen," he complained, "why do you want to add another enemy for us to fight?"

Euphemia blasted the couple with her own magic, and Aleksander quickly grabbed his wife away from the attack’s trajectory. They landed gracefully to the other side, and Elys answered him as quickly and briefly as she could.

Time was not to be wasted now.

"Sir Noa and Queen Euphemia were arguing," Elys said, "there is a good chance that the young adviser didn’t know everything about his queen. Perhaps he will lend a hand for the both of us."

Aleksander couldn’t help but worry about the idea Elys was suggesting to him.

It sounded pretty farfetched that the Eastern adviser would actually side with the two of them. Even when Queen Euphemia truly hid some details about her and their kingdom from her trusted adviser, Aleksander was sure that it wouldn’t come easy to Sir Noa to switch sides if he even thought about it.

Another blast came from Euphemia, and this time around Elys was the one to drag her husband out of the way. She raised her hands towards the opponent, and started blasting the Eastern Queen with her magic.

"Aleksander!" Elys screamed, "We don’t have all the energy to keep dodging this."

Elys raised both her hands and then told her husband, "You go distract Queen Euphemia and get Sir Noa up, and I will try gather enough mana to blast us all out of here."

The vampire king couldn’t help but nod to his wife in agreement.

He dashed off towards the Eastern Queen who was clouded in her own miasma, and then a blinding bright light shone above them.
