Chapter 193: To Love Is To Be Vulnerable Part 2
If the contents of one’s head were compared to a volcano, Aleksander’s head would have already exploded by the intensity of Elys’ kiss, his brain scattered all over their shared chambers. That would have caused a lot of mess, but it was a good thing his head was not a volcano at all.
It was not like he never kissed anyone before. Hell, he could never even count how many poor blood servants have tried to seduce him before. He was supposed to be experienced, but all he could do now was to turn into stone, unable to move with the shock a single kiss brought.
He wasn’t someone pure. He had indulged himself in too many sinful things in a bid to drown himself, trying to forget the pain and self-pity he felt in himself over the years his father disregarded his entire existence.
The young king expected Elys to turn away when he hugged her, but she actually hugged him back. She hugged him tightly, and spoke words Aleksander never had thought would have come out of his queen’s mouth.
Their marriage was not conventional in any means. The mark they shared on their forearms were unwanted. The bond they shared was only temporary.
Hatred and vengeance were the two main things that brought them together. Once this was all over, it was expected that they would part their own ways, whatever that may be.
Love was not offered freely on the plate.
Emotions were nothing but destructive weapons banned from being used on each other.
Elys had said it herself – he should not fall in love with her.
However, right here and now, Aleksander couldn’t think of anything but the sweet taste of his wife’s lips on his. Aleksander’s hands started to wrap around the tiny of her waist, and Elys deepened the kiss.
Aleksander suddenly pulled away.
"Why are you doing this, Elysianne?" he asked her.
Her eyes were shaking, her lips parted and her breath a bit labored. She lowered her eyes and turned her face away from him, several of her locks covering her flushed face.
"Elysianne?"
After several seconds of silence, his wife’s eyes returned to him, and she spoke in a shivering voice, "I’m sorry, if its too sudden or anything."
"Sudden?" he squeaked, but then cleared his throat and added quickly, "Why do you say that?"
"Well, I have been aloof for such a long time now," Elys replied, still a bit skittish with this act she was trying to pull off.
Was Aleksander buying it? Was she doing it right and playing the shift of emotions correctly? The only way to know was to see how he would react.
Aleksander’s eyes turned soft – something Elys never would have thought he was capable of from the beginning. He pulled her towards him and hugged her tight, his hand stroking her head gently.
"If you change your mind, it doesn’t matter," he spoke. "What is important is that we understand what the other wants and needs. I know I have been difficult and gave you problems, but I tried my best to accommodate your demands. After all, this was part of our deal back then when I asked for your help."
"Don’t you think that I am tricking you?" she tried to ask blatantly.
It was a risky game using reverse psychology. Elys was confident to a certain extent that she could pull her act together, but there was no denying that she harbored some doubts in herself as well.
The feeling was practically human nature.
"I don’t mind," came Aleksander’s reply.
Elys turned rigid when she heard him speak those three words. What did he mean he doesn’t mind if she was tricking him? Was he a masochist to say that?
"You do mind, I know it," Elys said as Aleksander continued to caress her.
His hand was plastered at the tiny part of her back, and the other stroked her head as if she was a child that needed comforting. To tell the truth, Elys found the gesture quite calming, so she didn’t have any qualms with it whatsoever.
"Husband, do you really think that it is necessary to give the vampires what they demand of us being the king and queen of this kingdom?" Elys asked him, her question true this time around.
She was concerned that having a child might hinder her mission to save her people. She was trained to take action herself, and to carry a child with her would mean she would be vulnerable. The pregnancy would potentially be a hindrance to her promise of vengeance.
Not to mention that many enemies would take advantage of this as well.
A life inside of her would mean her mana would deplete significantly as it provided her unborn child with enough nutrition to grow strong. Of course, there were food and drinks, as well as numerous magical items that could alleviate her troubles and help with pregnancy, Elys was still a bit reluctant.
"Aleksander, do you think that a royal heir is necessary at the moment?" she asked him again when she didn’t hear from her husband.
The young king sighed and then pulled away from the hug.
He faced her, his eyes turning serious as he said, "My queen, if you are uncomfortable with the idea, then all you have to do is tell me. I will not force you like I had done before. I learned my lessons, and I don’t want you to resent me if I insist on it. We can always say we tried but are yet to succeed. To create life takes time and a lot of effort, the nobles should know by now."
Elys bit her lower lip and Aleksander’s eyes fixated at how seductive she looked while doing it. She noticed him looking at her, understanding that she somehow had been successful enough into directing his attention from the last question.
"My king, what if I told you I would be willing to do what they are asking of us?" Elys said with a voice that was nothing but a whisper.
Aleksander raised a brow at her, looking incredulously at his wife.
"I was thinking that maybe we could fake your pregnancy and have a fake child pose as our heir," her said.
Elys shook her head and countered him, "The nobles would be able to tell. I know you all have very powerful senses. The vampires would know I wouldn’t be pregnant, as a heartbeat won’t be present in my belly."
Aleksander sighed, regretting he ever suggested that stupid idea.
His wife reached out to his face and said, "But I do think we could appease their troubles by showing them we are trying. Don’t you think so too, husband?"
The young king’s brows arched, a shocking realization dawning on him with where his wife was trying to steer the topic.
"You want us to consummate our marriage?" he asked her, his voice cracking at the word ’consummate’.
"I have grown accustomed to your presence beside me, my king," Elys said, "I won’t hinder progress with just my stubbornness. I will do whatever it takes to keep you where you are right now."
Aleksander felt a lump getting stuck on his throat. He couldn’t help but feel grateful to Elys, and at the same time, sorry that she was forcing herself to do things she didn’t want in the first place.
He grabbed both of her arms and asked her intently, "Do you know what you are saying, my queen? Have you ever even experienced a vampire in your life? I don’t want to hurt you like I did before, I am past that now."
Elys smiled at him and said, "Don’t make me change my mind, your majesty, King Aleksander. My heart may have been stone cold, but this isn’t merely play for me now. I have learned to like you, Aleksander, to the point I could tell you I don’t mind. Would that be too much?"
"Elys..." the vampire whispered her name.
"Aleksander Reagan Hazreel Ardorlean, my king, my husband," Elys spoke with great care and elegance, "I took your attempts to make me feel appreciated for granted, thinking they were all nothing but a ploy to utilize my powers for your own selfish gain."
"I do apologize for that," Aleksander frowned.
Elys smiled and touched Aleksander’s cheek as she said, "But you have proven me wrong, and I can’t help it if I might sound crazy, but now that I see you for who you are and not what you were, I could say that I am willing to do it with you. For my people, for our mission."
Aleksander couldn’t contain himself.
A feeling of happiness welled inside him and threatened to burst out of his body. He felt queasy, that instead of butterflies in his stomach, it felt a bit more like killer hornets buzzing around.
He was out of words to say. He could only think of one thing after what Elys told him.
The young king suddenly picked Elys from the couch, and transferred her to the bed.
