Chapter 187: Capture The Traitor

Chapter 187: Capture The Traitor

Both of the High Priestess’ brows arched up in disbelief. She didn’t anticipate that Mora would be caught this quick. Hasn’t it just been merely weeks since Aleksander and the human slave sat at the throne?

High Priestess Naya grabbed the side of her robes and clenched them in anger. She could feel her sharp nails dig into the inside of her palms despite the fabric in between. Her electric blue eyes turned to the maidservant – she was clearly displeased.

’How could Mora be so careless?!’ she then glared at the priest behind her.

"That man is the traitor," Cordelia spoke with bravery, her voice clear and unwavering despite the daggers that High Priestess Naya sent her way.

"Preposterous! You spew lies from your filthy mouth, woman!" Priest Mora vehemently denied Cordelia’s claims. He turned to the High Priestess, his eyes pleading her to defend him, "Your holiness, High Priestess, she is telling lies!"

High Priestess Naya found Mora’s panic a bit disconcerting. His experience should have made him an expert in controlling his facial expressions, and that of his body language.

What the hell was wrong with him now?

Turning back to look at Cordelia, the High Priestess addressed the others as she asked, "Does anyone actually think this maidservant’s words are to be trusted?"

She walked to the center of the room, her eyes hopping from one conscious noble to the next. High Priestess Naya wanted to make sure that they didn’t even think for a moment that agreeing with the maidservant was a choice.

If they did, then they were bound to receive the High Priestess’ scorn.

"What might your evidence be, lowly maidservant, for you to accuse one of my most trusted priests of treachery to the crown?" High Priestess asked Cordelia.

The old woman flipped her long and white hair away from her face and lifted her chin up indignantly.

"My eyes see only the truth, and my mouth shall speak nothing but the truth," Cordelia spoke with confidence, "my heart is the evidence, and you all know that I am telling no lies here."

"Impossible!" one of the other priests objected, obviously trying to defend his brother from being executed for treason, "Priest Mora is one of the most admirable vampires in the clergy. He could never betray the kingdom, nor the King and Queen at that."

"Do you hear my heart skip a beat, priest?" Cordelia snapped at the vampire. "I don’t tell lies, and when I do, I make sure that no one will ever be able to see through it. You, however, are sweating cold droplets through your thick and sickly skin – who is the liar here now?"

Elys could only scoff as she listened at the banter that happened in front of her. She raised her hand and Cordelia bowed her head, stepped back, and kept her mouth shut.

She already did what was asked of her, and it was now time for her to give the floor to Elys. The Queen was ready to strike.

"High Priestess Naya, you may have heard of the rumors that an Eastern spy had infiltrated the Western Kingdom, right?" Elys asked the vampire.

Their eyes locked in, and the High Priestess replied, "It is the talk of the town, and word travels fast through the grapevine."

High Priestess Naya was confused. She had assumed that Mora was accused of treason to the crown as part of the vampire clergy’s plan to get Aleksander and Elys out of the throne.

Were they not condemning him of the fact that he took part on such plans concocted by the High Priestess herself? If that was the case then, what was the relation of the Eastern spy to this? High Priestess Naya never gave orders to her people to get in touch with the said spy.

She knew he existed, but with intelligence returning to her that the Eastern foreigner came and walked out without causing trouble, the vampire did not bother to lift a finger.

"Hmm... truly it does," the young queen agreed. "Well, then what do you suggest we do, husband?"

Aleksander turned to his wife and scratched the tip of his chin with a contemplative hum, "Let us have him drink the truth serum, and then we shall all get things be done as soon as possible."

The vampire clergy gasped in unison as they heard the King spoke of the truth serum. It was probably one of the most potent potions that was ever concocted by the vampire kingdom’s potion masters.

"Your majesty, we humbly implore you to think through this without bias," the whole clergy went down on their knees and begged the young king.

"So, you are saying that I am being impartial with my decisions? Is that what you are implying, dear vampire clergy, High Priestess?" he asked them and then the High Priestess. "HOW DARE YOU SAY THAT TO ME, YOUR KING?"

Aleksander’s rage turned the vampires who had fallen for his magic writhe in pain. Cries started to echo inside the High Courts, and Lady Beatrice had to cover her ears with the volume of anguished cries all around her.

The ladies in waiting stood by and stiffened at the sight of the other vampires. Lady Azalea saw how her mother clutched at her chest in agony, and her father trying his best to support her, the only one in their aisle who wasn’t caught by the young king’s trap.

The rest of the ladies lifted their heads up and saw the undeniable smile etched on Aleksander’s face. It looked a lot like instead of the benevolent king that he wanted to sell himself to be, the young king actually presented them a tyrant.

Even High Priestess Naya was apprehensive.

A maniacal laugh echoed inside the huge room, "HA HA HA HA!"

Aleksander continued to laugh until his eyes watered. He couldn’t believe that the vampire High Courts could be so stupid to try and go against him, but all the more was the fact that the clergy seemed to be so cranky and nervous.

Any vampire could tell another person was lying or hiding something by the sound of their heartbeats. Aleksander on the other hand, could actually read their minds as if they were open books laid flat on his lap to peruse casually.

His thunderous laugh eventually died down, and the anguished cries of the vampires under his control died down. Lady Beatrice took her hands off her ears, and looked at the young king who has crossed his legs – a power stance that suddenly struck her speechless.

Ever since the bastard prince took the crown, Beatrice had never fancied herself into the palace to get acquainted to other nobles within the High Courts. Her father and mother, as well as her great-aunt took care of that role for the family.

It was the first time she had seen the extent of his powers. It might not have taken effect on others who had a stronger willpower to resist his magic, but nonetheless, the noblewoman felt chest tighten.

Aleksander’s golden eyes scanned the whole room, and at one moment held Lady Beatrice’s charmed face a second longer than he should. Suddenly, she felt her heart skip a beat.

This made the eldest daughter of the Thyrstons scared to death.

’What the hell am I feeling?’ she asked herself. ’I shouldn’t be harboring this thing inside of my heart!’

"You fools," the young king addressed the crowd.

With a snap of his fingers, King Aleksander released the ones under his magical influence, and a series of huffs and big gulps of air were heard. Lady Beatrice turned to the nobleman beside her and noted his struggle to breath.

"High Priestess, hand over Priest Mora or else you will leave me no choice but to have him forcibly taken and thrown into the deepest dungeons of the palace," Aleksander demanded of the High Priestess.

"You don’t have enough evidence but an accusation from a woman whose dignity is questionable," she countered, still insisting that Mora should not go anywhere.

Aleksander rose into his full six footer height, easily towering over the vampires especially that he was at a higher elevation thanks to their throne rooms.

His golden eyes were menacing, telling everyone that he wasn’t kidding around when he said that he would have the Priest dragged away. Aleksander glanced to his side, looking at the remaining personal knights he had with him.

Right up front, several other knights were stationed strategically in the case of a ruckus inside the vampire High Courts. Aleksander turned to Marquis Lanz, and once their eyes met, he sent a tiny vision to the secretary, instructing him what his next move would be.

Marquis Lanz raised his hands in front of him and drew a pattern in the air. The mirrors that hovered in the air rearranged, and Aleksander activated his powers over the knights who were his target.

"Capture Priest Mora," he instructed to them in a flash of a vision.
