Chapter 183: They Will Arrive Soon

Elys grabbed the side of her dress and her hands turned into fists. She had thought of the possibility, but she really did not want it to be the truth. However, Cordelia’s report about Sir Noa’s activity deemed to have proven her suspicions.

"Did you recognize who it was from the vampire clergy?" Aleksander asked the maidservant.

Elys raised her worried face and turned towards her husband. They had shared the same suspicions, and she saw that he too had a worried look in his handsome face.

The way his jaws tensed seemed to have caught her eyes, and somehow, Elys was reminded of something she didn’t want to remember at all. She shook her head to clear her mind, and refocused herself into the conversation at hand.

"I didn’t recognize the name, but if I can see them again, I can point them out with ease," Cordelia replied to the young king’s inquiry.

Aleksander leaned back and rested his arms on the armrest. His eyes started to turn serious as he tried to calculate what his next steps were supposed to be.

His aura turned dark, and Elys watched as a cunning smile lifted the corners of his mouth. Aleksander’s eyes turned towards her, and Elys tilted her head as if to ask him what he was thinking.

"It was a good thing that I have called the vampire clergy to send representatives in this meeting. Hopefully one of them is the traitor," Aleksander hummed. He then turned to look at Cordelia and added, "Cordelia, a meeting will be held in a little while. You may accompany the Queen Elysianne along with her ladies in waiting."

"Understood, your majesty," Cordelia nodded. "I will do my best to identify the said traitor."

"Good," Aleksander smiled.

"Speaking of the ladies in waiting, I think you still haven’t met them yet personally?" Elys asked the old woman.

Cordelia almost laughed, but held herself back and composed herself.

"Actually, I have, your majesty," she confirmed to Elys.

"Oh, that is great then," she replied nonchalantly. "You haven’t been in the palace for long periods of time that I thought you haven’t even met the ladies yet."

"I took notice even without meeting them personally, Queen Elysianne," Cordelia said. "Ah, come to think of it, I have something else to report to you, I assume this would be of great interest to you, your majesty."

Elys’ brow arched, her curiosity piqued by the maidservant’s words.

"What is it?" she asked.

Cordelia sat straight and then squared her shoulders, as she had noticed herself that she had slacked a bit. Her eyes fell on to the young queen’s face and she replied, "Lady Beatrice came by and wanted to meet with the two of you, your majesty."

"Who is this Lady Beatrice?" Aleksander asked.

"Lady Beatrice Thyrston, the eldest daughter of the Thyrston family," Elys explained.

Recognition dawned on the vampire’s face as he opened his mouth as he said, "Ahh... yes, now I recall. The noble family without a single male heir. The Thyrstons."

"Does her family ring any bell to you? What could she have wanted to speak to us?" Elys asked.

"Didn’t she reject your offer to becoming one of your ladies in waiting? Perhaps she had a change of heart?" Aleksander smirked.

Elys scoffed and said, "It has been days since I gave them the chance to return and serve me after our first meeting. Although I do wonder what she wanted to talk about. Perhaps we should give her a chance."

Soon afterwards, they heard the bells of the abbeys toll. In vampire society, it had meant that their night has begun after their first meal, with which official work began as well. It was the same within the palace, and Aleksander and Elys knew what was next.

The young queen elegantly got up from her seat and Aleksander followed suit. Cordelia stood up afterwards and stayed behind as the King and Queen went out of the room.

As the royal couple exited the Queen’s office, an entourage soon followed them behind. Several personal knights and servants, as well as the ladies in waiting who had waited for Elys outside.

Cordelia glanced at the women, and she fell behind them knowing her place. But even though she was walking behind the same people who supported the pillaging of the Northern Kingdom, Cordelia didn’t make herself look as if she was the one conquered at all.

The ladies gave her a snide look, and then raised their chins indignantly as they walked behind the King and Queen.

By the time that they arrived at the royal courts, many of the vampires have already gathered inside. Several vampires were discussing court agendas of the night, and their voices reached even through the thick walls of the court room.

A servant announced the arrival of the King and Queen, and immediately the murmurs and whispers fell quiet.

"His Majesty King Aleksander and Her Majesty Queen Elysianne has arrived!" the servant proclaimed.

The heavy doors of the court room opened, and Aleksander and Elys stepped foot inside.

It was another one of those meetings yet again that would discuss difficult matters regarding the kingdom. Aleksander wanted to hear another in depth report regarding the fire, and he hoped that there was significant information that was gathered while they waited for night to come.

The young king and his wife sat at their thrones. Elys’ ladies in waiting stood to her right, and the rest of her servants positioned themselves behind the ladies. Cordelia lined herself beside the servants, and her eyes scanned the room for anyone she might recognize from the vampire clergy.

The High Courts wasn’t full yet. There were seats that were empty, and thus Aleksander asked Marquis Lanz if there were those who would be late. He didn’t like to wait, but he wanted to see to it that he gets the issues done and over with in just a night.

"A few of the vampire clergy representatives will be arriving any minute, your majesty," Marquis Lanz said. "I have heard they are already at the palace premises."
