The Royal Revenge -
Chapter 151: Flowers
Chapter 151: Flowers
"How did it go?" Aleksander asked Elys.
The two of them have met as she was about to return to her chambers. Her new ladies in waiting were escorted by maidservants towards their own rooms, and Elys took her time alone to go around the palace before finally heading back to her room.
"Hmm?" she replied, a bit preoccupied and heady as well.
"I assume something good happened? Your whole face has brightened a lot," he told her.
"Oh, I didn’t even notice," she said as she covered half of her face.
"Well?" her husband pressed further, "aren’t you going to tell me about it?"
Elys stopped for a moment and then smirked.
"Four of the ladies I chose returned to pledge their loyalty," she told Aleksander, "it seemed like they really were enticed by my offer."
Aleksander’s face beamed with pride at his wife’s achievement. They were slowly getting the allies they needed for their plans to succeed.
"That is good to hear, wife," he said as they continued to walk leisurely, "I hope you reminded them that the consequences of betraying us would be their deaths, and that of their entire household punished as well."
Elys gave Aleksander a quick side glance and replied, "They should already know that without me saying it. A handful of them have witnessed me singlehandedly annihilate those that opposed us the night we revealed ourselves. They know where the line is drawn."
Aleksander pondered on what Elys said. He nodded in agreement, and they continued off towards the palace where the queen’s chambers were.
Her hallways were decorated with beautiful and lush red roses, blooming as they passed by and then closing a few minutes after.
Elys almost forgot that this was how Aleksander ordered the palace florist turned plants into magic to decorate her side of the palace. She was only able to appreciate it now that she had walked by her halls leisurely with Aleksander.
"Do you like it?" the young king asked, "I recalled you love to look at flowers and beautiful sceneries."
"I like it very much," she told him.
"I will have a garden built for you and your ladies soon. I will have to ask which part of the palace is best to laze around," Aleksander added.
Elys paused for a moment and then noted, "You are doing quite a lot of renovations, aren’t you? Wouldn’t the people feel like you are squandering too much on me, husband?"
"Nonsense! There is no such thing as too much squandering for a queen like you, Elysianne," Aleksander scoffed. "I will have their heads chopped off and displayed by the capital center!"
Elys laughed at his remarks.
"Why do you laugh, wife?" he blushed.
"Oh, you do blush, my king? Such a rare sight to behold – a tyrant and a bastard known for his cold personality blushes," she teased him. "Nothing, I just find it bizarre that you are willing to go to such ends for me."
Aleksander fidgeted on his cufflinks and turned his face away from Elys, embarrassed by her teasing. He couldn’t understand what was going on his mind at all.
Why was he being so... awkward with his wife?
Elys leaned towards Aleksander and whispered, "Like I told you, this agreement is for the sole purpose of getting revenge only, dear husband in paper. That is all we will ever be."
Aleksander’s lips pressed together and his face turned serious for a bit, "Then don’t you want me like this? I can go back to my cold and arrogant self if you wish me to."
Elys raised a finger to her lips and tapped them in contemplation.
Aleksander’s eyes fixated on her finger, and then slightly gravitated towards her rosy lips. He was probably going mental, but Aleksander was slowly noticing a lot of things with Elys now that she was healthier, especially when she asserts her dominance over his people.
She was indeed a royalty – both a stunning beauty and a powerful person in one body.
"I do like you with manners and being thoughtful, husband. Just make sure that you don’t overdo yourself," she warned him, "Don’t fall in love with me."
The two of them finally reached Elys’ chambers.
’A few steps left she is to retire for the night,’ Aleksander thought to himself.
"Alright, this is as far as it gets for you now," Elys said to him.
Aleksander’s eyes suddenly turned worrisome. He was bothered that she was going to be alone yet again in a big room. The knights that he had assigned her were several meters away from them, following the royal couple but still giving them enough space to speak privately.
He took a quick side glance at the knights.
Sir Damiano wasn’t much a problem, but Baron Ruiz was quite an exceptional vampire who could hear with great ease. Thankfully, Aleksander could read both of their mind. With great concentration, the young king knew they didn’t overhear anything at all.
But he did know that the two were loyal to Sir Wiriam.
That was much expected, since he did let Wiriam pick them himself.
"Aherm!"
Aleksander’s mind was pulled back towards Elys. She had crossed her arms and had one brow raised as if to question him why he was still lingering.
"Go on now, Aleksander," Elys shooed him away.
"Are you going to sleep already?" he asked her, stalling a bit to get some time to think what he really wanted to do now.
"I will probably read a few pages, and then perhaps get a good night’s wink," she said.
Elys turned her back to Aleksander and started to push her doors open. Just as she was about to get inside, the vampire king’s hands thrusted forward and grab her wrists to stop her.
"What?" Elys asked.
Aleksander was tongue tied for a second.
Was he really going to do what he was thinking? Would she hate him if he insisted on his idea?
Elys probably would, but Aleksander would be much at ease.
With a swift motion, Aleksander swept Elys off her feet and jumped out of the open arched window.
