Chapter 103: Claiming His Rights

Chapter 103: Claiming His Rights

The presentation of candidates for the throne brought with them a series of whispers amongst the other families as well as the court witnesses. Elys and Aleksander waited their time as one by one, the candidates separated from their families.

"Take your masks off, sons of the dark," the man instructed.

Elys memorized the faces that were presented as they took of their masks. Some already exuded power with just their presence, while others were yet to be determined.

She couldn’t really judge in that instant. She would have to wait for the Mana Orbs to show them who were the most powerful candidates. As the noble family’s candidates walked towards the acolytes, the Mana Orbs lit up with their touch.

Some had lit up quite brightly, while others outshone the ones beside them. However, one was obviously the brightest that it seemed as if his Mana Orb ate the brightness of the others.

"Just as expected," the princess muttered under her voice. "The Farvar family seems to stand out from the rest."

"Indeed," Aleksander agreed, his voice cold and somewhat cautious. "Should it be right to say that a winner has finally come to light?"

The presider beamed as he saw the Farvar candidate had obviously won his right for the crown.

"A new king has been chosen!" the presider announced. "Wiriam Gilver Farvar, my king."

The man bowed down along most of the nobilities. However, there were those that were skeptic of the result, unable to accept the fact that the Farvar’s son had bested their candidates.

"This is unacceptable!" one man yelled, "someone obviously cheated and done something to make the Farvar kid’s Mana Orb glow brighter! We all know you healing idiots are the weakest!"

The Farvar family retaliated as one of the women yelled back, "Archduke Elnua! How dare you say such atrocities! We are the proud Farvars! We served the kingdom, healed men and women during wars through the years. My son deserves the crown without being tarnished by your vile accusations!"

"But isn’t it true, my dear Countess Farvar?" Duchess Ravinia sneered, "your son didn’t even join the knights that serve the late King Raxus and Queen Zephyrine. He stayed in the dark amidst his peers that shone and rose in ranks."

"Wiriam Gilver Farvar might as well be at the same level as that bastard prince," Duke Ravinia made a snide remark.

"Shut up, you broke Duke and Duchess," Count Farvar countered. "Your son has a gambling habit he might as well be the reason the whole kingdom goes to debt and crumble."

The Duke and Duchess Ravinia choked on the issue that was slapped to their faces. Elys couldn’t help but laugh as she heard the ruckus transpire.

Mayhem ensued as the nobilities started arguing. The High Priestess Naya remained indifferent from the side, but with a snap of her fingers, the acolytes destroyed the Mana Orbs except that of the Farvar candidate, sending the crystals bursting like thousands of tiny sparkling stars.

"The Mana Orbs do not lie and is an item that could never be tampered no matter the skill of a magic user," High Priestess Naya spoke. "We of the vampire church created them for the sole purpose of determining one’s capabilities. Whatever is innate, that shall be reflected."

All the nobles gasped in surprise with the dark and ominous energy that High Priestess emanated. Wiriam stood tall and waited, deciding not to join the argument. He knew the High Priestess’ powers were at par to that of the late King Raxus.

Only a fool would want to disrespect her.

Elys watched with great interest at the bloodlust that was rising inside the room. Each family had started baring their fangs and sharp nails at each other, and only the High Priestess Naya was able to hold them off from creating a bloody war.

The princess tugged at Aleksander’s hand and said, "Anytime now, husband. Its up to you when you decide to come out."

The prince smirked and held Elys’ hand to his lips, giving her a light peck on her knuckles. The princess’ eyes widened, an uneasy feeling rumbling inside the pits of her stomach. What did the prince mean with the kiss?

"Thank you for trusting me," the prince whispered. "I will make sure to give you what you deserve, my wife. You slapped sense into me even before I realized it. And now, you give me courage as well."

The prince turned his eyes towards the gathered nobles near the podium. He took one step and then another, and thus eventually walked right in the middle, causing heads to turn at the man that was intruding, as well as the woman that came with him hand in hand.

Aleksander and Elys decided the other night to fight for the crown as surely his blood right would precede all other nobilities that were merely relatives. The prince took of his mask and hood, his raven hair glistening under the chandeliers of the room.

"The bastard prince is alive?" the presider gasped in disbelief. He turned to the High Priestess Naya, and saw the equally shocked look in her face.

"I have noticed how you bastards haven’t even tried to search for me when the invasion of the Eastern Kingdom failed," Aleksander spoke with vehemence in his voice.

Aleksander turned towards the High Priestess and raised a brow, waiting for the vampire to revoke the presider’s announcement of Wiriam’s coronation as the new monarch.

High Priestess Naya stood up from her seat, "Prince Aleksander Ardorlean, is it truly you?" she asked.

The prince raised his hand and that of Elys’, showing the mark that was unique to each married vampire couple upon the union of their blood ritual.

"It is I, High Priestess Naya," Aleksander spoke. "And I claim my right to the throne."

The bastard prince stood proud, truly proud for the first time in a long while.

He was the sole survivor of the King Raxus’ bloodline. He alone carried the blood of a king in him, and he was ready to take over the throne with the princess by his side.

The confidence that Elys’ words gave Aleksander were enough for him to take his stand. He no longer doubted himself.

The prince wasn’t alone in his fight now.
