Chapter 90 - The press conference
Chapter 90: Chapter 90 - The press conference
Altren walked over to the press conference desk someone had arranged for him. It was a single chair with a few hundred mikes attacked to it. He sat down to his dismay all the mikes were too big that they almost hid his face.
Sighing, he stood up, picking up only one mike. "please connect this with the audio system in the meeting room. Is that okay with everyone? I don’t feel comfortable talking to you all with my face hiding by this bouquet of mikes,"
The reporters chuckled and agreed with his idea.
Soon his sound system was okay. Altren glanced at the hundred or so reporters silently watching him. he simply picked up the flash cards. "I was told to follow the script.." he announced with a laugh.
One of the reporters lifted his hands up. "Are you being forced to oust your hero identity,"
"Oh no. I am more than willing. These cards are just in case I mess up this meeting," he sheepishly grinned/
His dazzling smile captured the hearts of the audience. Everyone smiled and nodded, mumbling on how it was a good idea.
Altren raised his hand. The room went silent. he slowly began to read out the card’s content. "Today I am here to confirm that I, Altren zain, the heir of zein corporation, am in fact the superhero named Alta. I got my hero license when ii was system and thereby released from the academy as a lawful citizen."
The words felt dry and lifeless. He did not like them one bit.
After reading the first card he simply tossed away the rest right in front of his audience. "I’m not good at following the script. Do you guys know why I revealed my identity? Is anyone curious? Isn’t that why everyone is here?"
"yes!" they all said in unison.
"Well. I’ll explain the reason after explaining a story. It is about a young hero.. he was sent into the academy at the age of five. Trained till he was eighteen and got his license. He was finally allowed to be a free man in our society. Can you guys guess the rest of the story?"
One of the women stood up with a smile. "he must have become a successful hero and would have saved millions of lives. Sint that right?" she confidently glanced at him.
Altren smiled at her. "Wrong. That young man did not become a superhero.... At the age of eighteen, he was left jobless in a big city with not a penny in his pocket."
Everyone started to murmur with a frown.
"You all might be wondering. Why didn’t he become a hero? Heroes get paid handsomely? Why didn’t he serve society to protect us all? Why?" he paused dramatically.
Everyone looked at him curiously.
"it was because the man did not want to be a superhero. He wanted to be a musician,"
The reporters all started to mumble amongst themselves crazily taking notes.
"Shocking right? Why wouldn’t anyone gifted with an ability want to be anything but a hero?" his smile faded away. "we heroes... are also humans. We too have goals and wishes in our life. But from a young age, we are trapped in-between four walls...... freedom is a luxury to us."
Everyone went quiet again,
One of the reporters stood up hesitantly. "our country is a free nation. Why didn’t that young hero become a musician?"
"well because he did not have the ’normal’ education. In the hero academy, we are only taught on how to control our abilities. Not about the outside world or to any of the education ’normal humans’ are able to get."
He took a deep breath and continued. "from a young age we are trapped, separated from what the government calls the ’normal society in a military-like base. Trained us to control our powers. Unless and until we gain our license, we are technically trapped in there without no way of escape."
"There is a reason why the license exists!" an annoying voice came from the crowd. "its to protect us! It’s to protect us all!"
Alter glanced around to find reporter Park poking his head in. the security was trying to push him out.
"let him in."
Reporter Park walked in adjusting his crumpled-up coat. He sat down on the ground close to the door. "Superhero Alta you are talking as if you all are imprisoned in there. But aren’t you just there for training? after that, you all are free to do what you want? You are fed and well taken care of. What is there to be whining about,"
Altren was so tempted to punch that man’s annoying mouth. "I don’t think words can convince you all. I have a few pictures here. I am not allowed to reveal it. Government policy. But who cares. I am planning on going against them anyway," he picked up his phone and asked someone to connect it to the screen behind him.
He linked his screens together. He scrolled down to the pictures of the facility.
"This is our canteen. This is our bedroom, small yes. uncomfortable? yes. I can barely fit my whole body in that bed." he chuckled. "This is our training room. This is our infirmary..." he showed them all the pictures. "What is missing in all these pictures?"
the reporters were all silently taking pictures and noting them down.
"Mister Park why don’t you answer me? what is missing in all these pictures?"
"Windows," the same lady who asked the previous question raised her hands up.
Everyone took a deep breath.
Altren liked the way this meeting was going. He needed to get as much as pity from the public as he could for their plan to work.
He glanced down at his foot. "we don’t have windows.. we don’t have a working network. How is that different from a prison."
Next, he scrolled down and showed the blurred faces of the young kids who were playing around. This was Kang’s class. he had secretly taken it when kang was playing around with his classmates.
"These are our youngest students. Just five or six.. but they have to live in a ’academy’ that is akin to a prison. we don’t normally see the sun until we get out ’license’...."
The reporter all started to rage and shout out loud on how unfair this was.
he purposefully used the kids’ image to create even more sympathy. they were allowed to see the sun and allowed to be in the campus groups but these guys don’t need to know that.
Altren pointedly glanced at reporter Park who silently snapped a few pictures. "how would you feel if your child was sent here?"
Park stammered and stuttered.
"These kids all have a family.. but they are forced to be away from them. There is no visitation allowed. For approximately fifteen or twenty years they are separated from their families and put to prison. Is this fair? Is this freedom? Is this the price we have to pay because of the genes we did not choose!"
"Today I want to take a stance! The government must give us more freedom. Supers must be allowed to leave the academy! we must be given the right to normal education! so please.. everyone who is listening to this. Support my petition!." He simply kept his eyes wide open until tears started to form in them.
He wiped the tear that dripped down his cheek. "Because We, the heroes who save your lives... need to be saved too." he bowed and left the conference room.
This acting was more than enough for now. He will reveal a few more information later on.
In just a few seconds the social media exploded. the news about the unfair treatment of supers became widespread. Everyone started to share this breaking news with their friends and family.
Even an online petition called free the supers was signed.
In just ten minutes it garnered a whopping ten million signatures from people all around the globe. It became a worldwide sensation.
Little by little, like trickling water, a few supers started to reveal their identity. They also revealed photos of their facilities.
Might light was one of the top notch training centers. The rest were disguised as a mental institute. There the facility was not that great.
Soo many photos started to swim around the internet.
Everyone started to protest in front of the hotel to free Altren and to free all the heros.
Altren watched this from the bed room with a small hum. "did I do good, uncle?"
"you did well. Now it’s my time to shine. I will take down all the world leaders with just one small move," he smirked widely.
"what if they don’t agree to your petition? What then?"
"They won’t agree? The countries that won’t agree... I shall punish them myself. Our Zain corporation is the leader all around the globe. I will pull back our business and on the way, I will also sneak out the supers from that country. Let see how they jump up and down from then. They would have no way but to submit to my order. This petition will pass. And I will make sure to reiterate the rules set by the government,"
Altren leaned close to his ears. "all for kang?"
Aaron simply smiled.
