Chapter 298: Chapter 298 - War zone

Before Eric knew it, he was being yanked out of the tent, his head spinning.

He stumbled forward into a massive sea of soldiers standing at attention, armor glinting in the sunlight like an over-the-top medieval music video.

Calvary units were stationed off to one side, and he spotted a few horse riders circling around, looking fierce and ready for battle.

There, standing proud, was a striking white horse, its coat gleaming.

The guy who had dressed him up—the same overly enthusiastic soldier—led the horse over. "Your Highness," he said, beaming like he just won the lottery.

As he approached, the horse let out a loud neigh, tossing its head.

Eric chuckled weakly. "You better run well, kid. In the other direction. You get me?" He wasn’t sure if the horse understood him, but its eyes peered back at him with an expression that seemed to say, You’ve got to be kidding me.

He awkwardly climbed onto the saddle, trying not to think too much about the absurdity of the situation. The soldier gave him a gentle nudge, and soon he was being led toward the war zone.

As they approached, Eric felt his stomach drop.

The sight before him was overwhelming—an entire camp of enemy soldiers was waiting for them, and they were not just a few.

His own soldiers barely numbered in the hundreds, while the enemy looked like they had a few thousand, ready to turn the field into a chaotic scene out of a movie.

"Okay... let me just..." he muttered, turning his horse around to retreat.

But the soldiers behind him were all staring, eyes wide with anticipation, waiting for his command like he was some kind of battle genius.

’Fuck me! I can’t even run! I’m pretty sure these guys will kill me if I even try that!’ Eric gulped, peering at the faces around him. Every single one of them had those strange elf ears, and they all looked suspiciously thin and spindly.

"So... we fight?" he asked, trying to muster a sense of authority.

"Yes! We fight!" everyone shouted in unison, making his ears ring.

"Great! Awesome! Love the enthusiasm!" he replied, his voice a little higher than he intended. "Uh, how about we, um, you know... charge?"

"Charge!" they echoed, raising their weapons with gusto.

What have I gotten myself into?

The horse shifted beneath him, and for a moment, he was tempted to leap off and hide behind a bush.

"Okay, everyone," he called out, trying to sound more confident than he felt. "Let’s give them a good run for their money!"

"And if anyone sees a bush that looks like it could offer some cover, let me know!" he mumbled under his breath.

His soldiers cheered, and with a surge of energy, they all charged.

With a sudden jolt, Eric’s white horse charged ahead, propelled by sheer adrenaline and the weight of the moment. Behind him, his commanders and soldiers surged forward, war cries echoing like a bad rock concert. It felt like they were part of some epic fantasy flick, except Eric was painfully aware that he was just a confused guy who’d stumbled into a medieval mess.

Arrows flew past him like angry hornets. One nearly clipped his ear, and he ducked so hard he almost fell off the saddle. "Not the face! Oh my god!" he shouted, panic rising in his throat. "Where are you, Kai? I hope you’re not here! This is such a terrible situation!"

His thoughts spiraled as he glanced ahead. The enemy was charging, and they were decked out in black with ominous red accents—definitely not the colors of a friendly team. Every single one of them had hoods and scarves covering their faces, making them look like they were auditioning for a villain’s role in a cheesy action flick.

But then, the one leading them caught his eye. A tall figure, dressed head-to-toe in gleaming red armor that practically screamed, "Look at me! I’m the bad guy!" His golden eyes glimmered with a predatory gleam that sent chills down Eric’s spine. Oh no, those eyes look like they’re ready to swallow me whole.

"Mommy, I just want to go home!" Eric whimpered silently, feeling the absurdity of his predicament wash over him. He was not cut out for this warrior business!

As the enemy closed in, he noticed his commanders swinging their swords, deflecting arrows like pros. One burly guy with a wild beard glanced over at Eric and yelled, "Keep your head down, Your Highness!"

"Right! Head down!" Eric repeated, instinctively ducking again as another arrow flew past him, narrowly avoiding his nose. "Why am I even here?!" he shouted, voice rising in a mix of disbelief and desperation.

Eric’s heart raced as he felt the enemy commander closing in, that sinister smiling eyes still plastered on his face like a bad Halloween mask. "Why is he so obsessed with me?" Eric thought, panic setting in.

Behind him, his soldiers fought valiantly, trying to form a protective wall as arrows rained down around them.

The burly commander with the wild beard was shouting orders, his sword swinging like a windmill, deflecting arrows and cutting through the enemy ranks with surprising grace. "Keep it tight! Protect the prince!" he bellowed, but Eric barely registered the words over the pounding of his own heart.

"oh my god" Eric shouted back, glancing over his shoulder. The red-armored commander was almost on him now, his golden eyes locked onto him like a hawk zeroing in on its prey. "Why is he so fast?!" Eric yelped, urging his horse to move faster, which it apparently interpreted as "trotting leisurely."

The enemy commander laughed, a chilling sound that echoed across the battlefield. "You can’t run forever, little prince!" His voice was smooth, almost mocking, as if this were all a game to him. "Sooner or later, you’ll have to face me!"

"Great motivational speech," Eric muttered under his breath, his mind racing for a plan.

Soldiers were shouting, swords clashed, and the smell of sweat and adrenaline filled the air.

He needed to get away.
