Chapter 80: Cracked

A small smile graced Damian’s lips.

"Violet is lucky to find you all who treats her like a family. It makes me feel content," expressed Damian.

Lydia’s eyes remained locked on him. She then responded, "Violet helped us a lot as well."

"Ms. Lydia, what Violet mentioned about me being interested in you isn’t wrong. You’re one of the core researchers under Stake. I am interested about the new mRNA based drugs you’re working on. It has a lot of potential."

Lydia understood the man investigated them deeply. Although this displeased her, she didn’t let it show on her face.

"And?" Lydia arched her brows.

Damian then took out his business card and pushed it towards Lydia. "I am the vice-president of Silvergate Ventures. We are interested in investing in the project.

Everyone wants a piece of the pie, and naturally, Silvergate Ventures as well. My company tried to reach out many times, but it remained unsuccessful. Therefore, I could only be shameless to bring it up now."

The corner of Violet’s lips twitched.

Damian was up again with his profit-seeking behaviour. He really had no issue bringing up his business affairs anywhere and anytime.

The conversation with Damian took up a long period of time, and by the time they returned, it was almost midnight. Damian politely offered to drop them home, but Lydia refused.

As they entered the premise of the house, Violet brought up, "Damian must have bothered you a lot. He is so inconsiderate and lacks common sense. How can he bring up his business in the first conversation? You can reject him."

"It would be a shame to turn him down," Lydia replied. "He offered a lot of benefits. Everyone in the institution will be satisfied."

Violet tilted her head in confusion. "You sure? Be careful. Knowing Damian, he will never let anyone get more benefits than him. There must be something suspicious."

"He is really concerned about you. It’s his way of silently thanking me and making sure we take good care of you," Lydia revealed.

That brought a smile on to Violet’s face.

"My dad helped him out a lot in his childhood. Because of this, Damian could successfully break off from the pack. That’s why, he thinks it’s natural to take care of me," Violet explained, "But Damian is good over all, unlike his father."

"Who’s this Damian?" Lucas asked, catching Violet off guard.

Violet furrowed her brows and promptly responded, "Lydia’s new love interest. Damian expressed his admiration for Lydia today, and I was convincing her how she should give him a chance. You should have seen how they got along so well."

Lydia stared at her in discontentment from the side.

Before she could correct her, Lucas scoffed and expressed, "Love interest? Violet, there has to be a limit to joking. What decent guy would like this boring and rude woman?"

Violet felt irked.

"Well, Damian is gentlemanly, handsome, and rich. He is the one of the most desired bachelors according to the magazines out there," Violet stated. She recalled the information she searched about on Damian on the internet.

"Princess, I get you’re biased towards Lydia, but you can’t be making up stories," Lucas said, "at most, he is probably playing around with her and fooling her. He can’t be serious."

When Violet was about to open up her mouth to argue, Lydia spoke up first: "Not everyone is like you, being dirty and deceiving young women."

Violet nodded her head in agreement.

Then, Lydia held on to her hand and walked away.

Lucas rolled his eyes and shouted, "Well, don’t come crying to me later on. I warned you."

"Lydia, I won’t blame you if you want to beat him up. I want to do the same," Violet mumbled.

°°°

With the broom in her hand, Violet was cleaning the house. She held bored in her room and picked up the broom to keep herself entertained.

Alpha had gone out with Gabrielle in the morning. It was probably to deal with the secret business they had.

Holding the broom tight in her hand, she rested her head on the stick and let out a bored sigh. Then, the corner of her vision caught motion, and upon closer observation, she noticed a mouse had slipped into Sylas’s room.

Violet frowned.

Not often did she get to see mouse here. Knowing how Alpha will be displeased, Violet entered the room guiltily. She cleaned his room earlier and left the door open.

Otherwise, the mouse wouldn’t have found opening to enter.

After locating the mouse, she grabbed her broom and ran behind it, trying to get the pesky creature outside the room. The mouse ran over the couch and then the documents on the table before jumping on top of the bookshelf.

Spending few minutes trying to chase it away left her breathless. Violet placed her hand on her waist, and her determination to catch the mouse only became stronger.

She lifted the broom in her hand and tried to attack the top of the cupboard. Her set of actions successfully managed to get the mouse to flee the room.

But when she pulled the broom back, an object fell from top of the cupboard, crashing down.

A gasp left Violet’s mouth when she noticed it was a camera. She hurried over and sat down to lift the camera.

There were few cracks left on the screen of the camera. A plastic section of the device broke away.

Violet turned on the camera to see if it was still operating. The screen turned on, and despite the cracks in the screen, the display worked, letting her see the photos.

Her hands paused for a second when she saw the first photo.

It was of young Sylas— around his teen years. There sat a small, youthful smile on his face, and he lifted his hand, as if to avoid the camera. But before he could do that, the photo was captured.

"What are you doing?"
