The Rogue Alpha's Second Chance
Chapter 78: Assure

Chapter 78: Assure

"Alpha, Lucas and I made strawberry and blueberry danishes for breakfast today," Violet informed. A bright smile played on her face as she rushed up to Sylas. "They are going to be delicious. Are you excited to try them out?"

Before Sylas could respond, Gabrielle came over and handed him a towel. "Here, it seems you still haven’t given up on your fussy cleanliness habits."

Sylas took the towel from her hand and wiped his upper body off. Violet felt too upset at her solo moment with Alpha being interrupted to enjoy the mesmerising view in front of her.

"From when you were a child, you used to create a scene when you got a little dirty, and everyone used to roll their eyes at you behind their back, calling you a young lady. Do you remember?" Gabrielle’s tone was teasing.

"I don’t remember these messy things," Sylas spoke out.

Then, Violet noticed the little familiar rabbit in Gabrielle’s hand. Her hands played with the delicate pink ears of the rabbit as the little one obediently rubbed its body against her.

Wasn’t this the rabbit she gifted Alpha?

"The rabbit..." Violet pointed out.

"Oh? This one? I found it in Alpha’s room and thought it was cute," Gabrielle expressed.

Hearing that, Violet suppressed the resentment in her eyes and turned her gaze towards Sylas. A subtle pout formed on her face.

How could he let other women touch what she gifted him?

"By the way, Alpha, from when do you raise pets? I thought you hated these little creatures," Gabrielle voiced out.

"It looked fun," Sylas responded. "Stop the chatter now."

"Right, you have to take your precious bath now. I haven’t met a grown man being so particular yet." Gabrielle shook her head.

Looking at the natural interaction between them gave birth to more bitterness inside Violet. The wall seemed to have only grown thicker.

"Violet, I heard you had a fight with Stella yesterday night. I apologize on her behalf. That girl goes around provoking everyone, and I can’t correct it. Did you get hurt?" Gabrielle politely brought up.

Violet shook her head.

She sighed internally. Gabrielle was a good person. She couldn’t even hate her.

"Why did you fight?" Sylas inquired.

Violet was about to answer when Gabrielle spoke first: "It was all Stella’s fault. She said something bad about Lydia."

"What’s the matter? You are not even enjoying your favorite ice-cream."

Hearing that voice made Violet instantly raise her head. Seeing Sylas standing behind her made her feel pleasantly surprised, and at the same time, all the grievances in her chest wished to explode out.

"Alpha, what are Stella and Gabrielle here for?" Violet asked, hugging the box of ice-cream close to her chest.

"It’s secret business," Sylas gently responded.

Violet bit the spoon in her hand and stared at Alpha pitifully. "Can I really not know?"

As Sylas silently stared at her, she blinked her eyes. Then, he came over to sit down beside her and replied, "There is someone who has been hiding for a long time. He has finally shown his tail after years, and I want to catch him."

"Is it someone who hurt you?" Violet carefully asked.

Sylas nodded.

"Alpha, when are they going back then?" There was nervousness held in Violet’s voice.

"Violet, even if you don’t like them, you can’t act this way," Sylas pointed out. "It is rude."

Violet scooped up some ice-cream and brought it closer to Alpha’s mouth. "Do you like chocolate ice-cream, Alpha?"

"Violet," Sylas enunciated.

"It’s really good, Alpha. This is my favourite brand, and it’s perfectly bittersweet." Violet wore a bright smile on her face, but her eyes wavered.

"Violet," he repeated.

Violet sighed. "Alpha, can’t you spoil me and let me act how ever I want to? I don’t like them, and that’s why, can I not like them?"

Although she expected Sylas wouldn’t respond to her positively, it still made her heart feel heavy. She got down from her couch.

She looked down at the ground and said, "I will get you a spoon, Alpha. The ice-cream really tastes good."

"We are abandoned puppies, Lydia," Violet said, feeling wilted.

As she hugged Lydia from behind, Lydia held on to her hands and asked, "Are you letting your thoughts run wild again?"

"Alpha chose Gabrielle over me, and Lucas is stuck to the hips with that annoying Stella," Violet expressed, "Lydia, we only have each other."

"Don’t bother me here. Isn’t your favourite series releasing an episode today?" Lydia pointed out.

Violet let out a deep sigh. "It got postponed."

"I have work to do. Play by yourself, alright?" Lydia stated.

Violet then stood in front of Lydia, and her eager eyes stared at her. "You’re going to the human land, right? I want to tag along."

"I am going to the laboratory. That is no place for you to go." Lydia immediately turned her down.

"Come on, Lydia. I will be a good girl and won’t disturb you. These days, Mathew has gone into hiding as well, so there is no danger," Violet vocalized, "and I promise to take extra care of myself."

Lydia stared at her doubtfully.

"Also, I will just be heartbroken over everything if I stay here. Didn’t you say the mental state of a pregnant woman matters? Can you really bear to have me depressed?"

Lydia knew she could only give in.

Although Violet was instructed to remain inside the hospital, her curiosity did not let stay put for long. She walked over to the cute bakery she found opposite to the hospital last time and ordered cute pastries.

When she had to pay for the goods, she reached for her wallet. Her eyes widened upon realizing how she forgot to bring money.

Embarrassment crossed her face. As the cashier stared at her, she slowly said, "Can you put them away? I forgot to bring my—"

Before Violet could continue, she felt a weight on top of her head. Then, a masculine voice followed. "I will pay for her. Ring up my card."

Violet turned her head. There was a familiar face in front of her.

"Damian?" she called out in confusion.

"Hey, there, Pipsqueak. I thought you would forget about me," Damian voiced out.

"What are you doing here?" she asked.

"What would I do here at a bakery? It’s a surprise seeing you here. What are you doing here at human land?" Daniel spoke out, grabbing the box of pastries once it was handed over.

"Do you want to eat here?" he asked.

Violet nodded, selecting a seat and going over to sit there. Damian opened the box of pastries for her, revealing the delicate dessert inside, and handed her the fork. He then settled down opposite to her.

"Did you hear what happened?"

Violet’s fork dug into the raspberry cheesecake, and she ate it. The delectable flavours spread across her taste buds, brightening up her mood.

"Few snippets here and there from my dad," Damian vocalized, "I was about to search for you, but then, I learned you’re with the infamous Alpha Sylas and thought you will be safe."

Damian West was the son of her pack’s Beta, Stanley Hudson. Abandoning his father’s surname and title, he vowed to remain on the human lands and live as a normal human.

Although he denied to have any resemblance to his father, both of them were equally profit seeking and indulged in business.

However, unlike Stanley Hudson, even though Damian could be deceiving, Violet trusted him. Growing up, he wasn’t there in the pack often, but all the times he was, he acted like a reliable older brother.

Back when she was a child, her dad found it difficult to juggle between pack activities as an Alpha and raising her. Therefore, Damian acted as her babysitter often, looking after her.

"Your connections are that wide? You even knew that?" Violet was surprised.

"It wasn’t as though Alpha Sylas was actively hiding it. So, it was easy to figure out. But I still haven’t figured out his motives yet," commented Damian.

Violet shrugged her shoulders. "Isn’t it because he is kind and couldn’t look at a damsel in distress? Anyone would do that."

Damian shook his head. "It isn’t that simple. You need to remain wary of him. Although he hasn’t hurt you yet, there is no guaranteeing what he will do in the future.

Simply because someone is nice to you, you don’t owe them trust. How many times do I have to tell you that?"

Violet shook her head.

"You’re being too suspicious, Damian. What could he want from me? I am pregnant, almost a human, and poisoned. If anything, I am taking advantage of him," Violet pointed out.

"That is what it is odd. Give me some time. I will look into it."

"You are thinking too much. I have become a good judge of character now, and I assure you there is nothing wrong with Alpha. Trust me, hmm?"
