The Rogue Alpha's Second Chance
Chapter 43: Conference

Chapter 43: Conference

"Alpha, do you see the chemistry between Lucas and Lydia?" Violet questioned, striding after the man as they walked out the house.

Sylas turned his head to look back at her. Amusement tinted the corner of his eyes. "You can be oddly perceptive in unnecessary situations."

Violet scrunched up her nose.

What was that supposed to mean?

Violet sighed. "It’s sad they are not mates. They complement each other well."

"You little thing, you want more drama, right?" Sylas joked.

Violet cleared her throat at Sylas’s accusation. "Alpha, you’re wronging me here. I just think Lydia cares a lot about Lucas."

"I heard you mention my name. What’s going on?" Lucas popped up from behind, staring at Violet with curious eyes.

Thinking how she was gossiping about Lucas’s love life made her feel slightly guilty. Just as she was about to make an excuse, Lydia drove the car over and Violet slapped on his arm.

"There’s Lydia with the car."

Violet’s detailed inspection report from the last visit in the hospital came out, and Lydia’s mentor curated a treatment plan for her. Therefore, they decided to visit the hospital today to get the tests done.

Although Violet was nervous about how it would go, she beamed with excitement, thinking about how she will get to visit the human land again.

As she rushed forward, about to enter the car, the hurried movements caused her to feel dizzy, and stumbling on her feet, she almost fell forward when Sylas grabbed on to her shoulder, stabilizing her.

"Be careful," Sylas enunciated. At this point, Violet lost count of how many times she had heard the phrase from the man.

"I knew that you would be there to catch me," Violet expressed— her tone revealing her dependency.

Violet paused for a second in front of the shotgun seat before opening the door to the backseat and settling there. Her chest brimmed with anticipation as the Alpha sat beside her.

The scent of the tangy and sweet grape wine reached into her nose.

It comforted her.

As much as Violet wanted to watch outside the window throughout the entire journey, her drowsiness prevented her from peeling her eyes open. Soon enough, she gave in to sleep, leaning against the window.

"She is such a child. One moment she is jumping with all the excitement, and the next instant there is, exhausted and sleeping," Lucas commented.

Violet’s sleep hasn’t faded yet when they were brought to the hospital. A groan left her mouth when Lucas helped her out of the car. She leaned against him, yawning.

"I don’t want to get up." A small whine left her mouth.

Lucas pinched on the bridge of her nose softly and spoke out, "Look at you getting more and more spoiled."

Sylas watched the interaction between them before looking at Lydia and ordering, "Keep an eye on both of them. Don’t let them into trouble."

Lydia nodded. There was no doubt these two were a package of trouble.

Violet blinked her eyes— consciousness entirely returning to her. Her lips were pulled into a subtle pout as she asked, "Where are you going, Alpha?"

"Going to do what I promised you. All the best, Violet," Sylas expressed before walking off.

The cryptic answer she received made her stare at Lydia and Lucas in confusion.

"There is a meeting between the packs here and the council. The Alpha will present your case and seek justice for you," Lydia said.

It would have been nice if she could tag along.

Following that, Violet was guided into the hospital. When she met Lydia’s mentor, Peter, he greeted her.

"How are you feeling recently, Violet?" he questioned.

Although she had been feeling under the weather, Violet believed she had been holding up well. "I suppose I feel fine."

Lydia then followed it up by reporting the symptoms she currently had— mentioning the heartaches, chestburn, dizziness, fatigue, loss if consciousness, and few more.

Peter nodded knowingly before turning his attention to her and asking, "Are you nervous for today? You will get a lot more test done on you."

Violet gulped. "A tad bit."

"You’re a strong child. I know you can go through it. Keep up the spirit, alright?"

Violet nodded her head, feeling empowered.

After that, Peter took her to a room, and various scans were done on her. Then, Violet’s memory was hazy as she felt the needles poke her veins at multiple places, extracting her blood and introducing chemicals into her.

Hours of treatment later, Violet finally had a clearer head. She laid on the bed weakly, turning her head sideways. The long gone nausea was back within her, and her hands were sore from all the needles.

"I don’t feel well," Violet expressed— tears accumulating in her eyes.

Lucas patted on her head comfortingly and spoke out, "It will be all over soon, hmm? You will be healthy and running around in no time."

Violet’s phone then rang, notifying her how she received a message. The text read ’Alpha Mathew arrived at the Moonshine Hotel.’

It was from Jason.

°°°

The Alpha’s volatile temper kept the entire pack on toes for the past few days. No one dared to show up in front of him, in fear of touching the wrong button and getting implicated.

Although no deaths were caused yet, a couple pack members were taken to the medical center with condition no worse than that. Since there was a meeting with the council today, Mathew was further agitated.

Mathew entered the car and slammed the door shut.

"I am sure that those senile, old retards and those Alpha fuckers want to see a bastard like me make a fool of himself at the meeting today. Those fucking assholes! This is my pack, my mines, my everything— HOW DARE THEY TRY TO TAKE CONTROL!?" Mathew raised his voice, slamming his hand on the steering wheel.

Bella sitting beside him flinched at the intensity. Her hand subconsciously went towards her neck, recalling the pain when he strangled her last night.

Mathew continued to curse on, using the filthiest language he could. Bella could only sit beside him silently and timidly, listening to all he had to say.

When they reached the hotel, Mathew knew that he couldn’t throw his temper around here. He fixed his facial expression to a more amiable one, hiding the exploding rage within him— something that he has been used for years now.

Mathew then stepped out the car, walked towards where rest of the Alphas were and greeted them with his own enthusiasm. Bella, who was left behind, looked at his flattery and rolled her eyes.

However, just as Mathew, once she left the car, she had a pleasant smile on her face while she caught up to Mathew and grabbed his hand.

As they walked towards the conference room, the whispers reached into Mathew’s ears.

"Look at how he is ass-licking."

"Indeed that’s a bastard. He knows he is a lowly one and belongs beneath everyone."

"I am worried he is going to look at me and choose me as the next target."

"That’s disgusting. That fucking son of a whore should stay away from us."

Mathew clenched his hand into a tight fist, trying to subdue his anger. He mentally reminded himself how he was prepared for the insults.

A chuckle left the mouth of the Alpha he was chatting with.

"I apologize, Alpha Mathew, but they were too funny."

Mathew’s smile did not falter.

"Everyone is bound to have different opinions. The responsibility of the pack is way beneath my status and capabilities— I am well-aware of that. I have a lot to learn.

But since fate has assigned my mate to be someone with Alpha blood, there is nothing I can do but take the position of Alpha now that my pack is in troubled times. Therefore, I am looking forward to your guidance," Mathew vocalized.

"He sure as a smooth tongue." Someone scoffed from the side.

The sound of clearing throat was heard, indicating the members of the council were already there. Everyone settled into their own position in the room.

The members of the council were well-respected retired Alphas. Their presence itself carried immense power. Along with the fact most in the room were Alpha, Mathew felt the natural suppression.

When Violet was his mate, he could ignore this phenomenon, but now that he broke the bond between them, he was reduced to his usual werewolf self. It took everything in him to not meekly look down.

"The meeting has begun," announced a werewolf from the side once all the members of the council sat in their seats.
