Chapter 36: Optimistic

Violet nodded.

But the next moment Lucas’s hand extended and he grabbed on to Lydia’s waist. He rubbed his head against her back intimately and contently.

"Don’t leave me," he said.

Violet blinked her eyes. "I will leave you two alone."

She hurriedly placed down the glass of honey water and the pill on the table before wanting to run away in case she saw something inappropriate.

However, Violet gasped as Lydia raised her hand and slapped Lucas on his cheek mercilessly. She touched her cheek subconsciously, feeling a phantom pain.

Lucas’s eyes instantly shot open at the pain. He touched his cheek and stared at Lydia with accusing eyes only to be met with the woman’s cold, irritated gaze.

He could only growl softly.

Violet did not understand whether to be amused or feel pity for Lucas.

"It hurts," he complained while pouting.

Lydia looked at Violet and spoke out, "You take care of him. I am going to bed."

As much as Violet owed Lucas, she did not want to take care of this hot potato.

She yawned. "I am sleepy, Lydia. I can’t keep my eyes open."

Lucas, at the same time, realized how Lydia wanted to get away from his embrace. This only strengthened his resolve to keep her close as he wrapped his legs around her.

"Mine. You can’t go. I won’t allow you to."

The more frustrated Lydia tried to drag herself forward, the further Lucas pulled her backwards.

Violet found it to be a funny scene of tug-of-war.

Even Lydia could become helpless when it came to Lucas.

Although she couldn’t exactly pinpoint it, there was something inexplicable in the air when it came to them. Violet believed she would only be interrupting the delicate moment between them if she stayed.

And her eyelids barely managing to stay open had her walk into her room.

Having being left alone with the trouble did not feel pleasant to Lydia.

"Fine, I won’t go. Let go of me," Lydia said in an exasperated tone.

However, Lucas was like a stubborn mule. Lydia could only sit beside him on the couch, having his arms and legs wrapped around, resembling a giant panda hugging a tree.

Her movements were made with difficulty when her hand stretched out for the packet of pill on the table. She popped one out and handed it to Lucas.

However, Lucas wasn’t willing to release her. He opened his mouth, indicating her to feed him.

The corner of Lydia’s lips twitched.

This might be her retribution for beating him up.

Lydia expressionlessly fed him the pill and fed him the glass of honey water. Giving up struggling, she leaned against the couch and closed her eyes next, wishing for Lucas’s body to metabolize fast in order for his sobriety to return.

Lucas blinked his eyes in a daze before they watered up. "I feel so unwell. It hurts. It hurts a lot here."

Lydia tilted her head to find Lucas grab on to his chest. His face contorted with pain. His discomfort made Lydia sigh. She leaned closer to him and patted on his head.

"It’s all my fault. It’s because of me she died. I couldn’t protect her. It’s all my fault. I don’t deserve to live. How can I be so happy? Why?" Lucas continued.

"It’s not your fault, Lucas. Everything is going to be alright," Lydia softly said, trying to calm Lucas down.

Violet folded her legs on the green grass and sat down. As the bright sun shone upon her, the dizziness made her head feel heavy. However, Violet’s optimistic personality made her ignore that.

Earlier today she scoured around the place and gathered all the beautiful flowers. With Sylas being out on a run, she felt a sense of security and knew that he would come to help her in case of danger.

Violet formed the flowers into beautiful bundles and tied with the thin strips of vines. She then placed them on the basket and smiled at the aesthetic arrangement.

Then, her hand weaved a crown out of the remaining flowers— a delicate handiwork coming alive in her hands. Satisfied with the result, Violet held it up high to get a better view.

That’s when, her bright smile was interrupted by the warmth flowing down her nose. Violet sighed, placing down the flower crown, and touched her nose.

She knew it was bleeding.

At this point, she had gotten used to it and did not panic as much as before.

She grabbed the napkin Sylas had previously handed her, casually wiping her nose away next. She made sure to leave behind no stain.

Violet did not want to worry the rest.

The black spots in her vision and the dizziness prevented her from keeping her head high any longer. Violet fell back down and closed her eyes, trying to get body to feel well.

Violet knew the image she presented everyone made them believe she was carefree about her condition, not caring about the result.

But deep down, Violet was scared, really scared.

She was afraid of dying and gradually the fear grew because she started to love staying here. She didn’t want to lose it all.

She wanted to live, run under the bright sky, learn new things, and make memories with her precious people.

But she didn’t dare hope.

Or let out her concerns.

Everyone was tensed about her situation enough as it was. If they got to know how she truly felt, they would be further burdened.

That’s why, Violet thought it would be better to be a happy-go-lucky fool who lived in the moment and didn’t care about the future.

Violet turned to her left and curled up, feeling increasingly overwhelmed by her emotions.

She repeated in her head she couldn’t feel this way.

Anyone could see her and would be worried about her.

"What’s the matter?"

Violet opened her eyes to find Sylas standing in her vision, staring down at her. The corner of her lips curled up to form her impeccable smile, devoid of the physical and mental pain she went through.

"I was sunbathing. Alpha, you should too. It feels great!" Violet expressed cheerily.

"Under this weather?" Sylas questioned, noticing the bullets of sweat gathered on her pale countenance.

Violet ignored her lightheadedness, standing up straight. The quick movements made her unsteady for a second before she straightened herself, and the pair of hazel eyes stared at Sylas brightly.

"Yeah, it’s best for getting a tan as soon as possible. I look too sickly." Violet frowned.

Even she was amazed at her ability to spout lies.

"You will only be causing yourself skin damage," Sylas commented, "don’t be foolish."

Violet nodded.

After that, she bent down to reach for the flower crown she weaved. Staring at the man in front of her, she thought it would go along well with his refined image.

"Alpha, a little gift for you," she offered wholeheartedly.

Sylas furrowed his brows at her, silently questioning her on what she was thinking.

"I think it will go well with you," Violet commented, not adding how she thought of his as a graceful beauty in her heart.

"You can keep it to yourself," Sylas turned her down immediately.

Violet pouted, a little disappointed, but it was to be expected. Instantly grinning widely, she said, "Alpha, do you have anything new to teach me today? I am all energized up to learn now!"
