Chapter 84: Spend at Will
Chapter 84: Chapter 84: Spend at Will
Late at night, Long Chen left Zhao Churan’s house.
He quietly arrived outside Li Yuechan’s bedroom without alerting anyone else.
For Long Chen, accomplishing this was effortless.
Then, he reached out and gently knocked on the door.
After a long while, Li Yuechan opened the door, yawning, her eyes half-closed and her face unhappy: "Mom, what’s wrong now?"
"It’s me."
Long Chen spoke softly.
Li Yuechan instantly shook off her drowsiness, her beautiful eyes widening.
Then, Li Yuechan quickly pulled Long Chen into the room and closed the door.
"You... why have you come back?"
Li Yuechan fought back tears, staring at Long Chen.
"If I hadn’t come back, you would have married someone else."
Long Chen said.
"I’m sorry, it’s my fault."
Li Yuechan lowered her head.
"Tell me what happened. I don’t believe you married him because you fell in love with that man."
Long Chen said.
"How can you be so confident? You left for three years, three whole years. How many periods of three years does a woman have?"
Li Yuechan clenched her jade hands.
"That was indeed my fault," Long Chen said. "So, is that why you planned to marry someone else?"
"I..."
Li Yuechan opened her mouth but couldn’t find the words.
"Yuechan, from your eyes, I can tell you still love me. No matter what has happened, tell me. All problems can be solved with me here."
Long Chen spoke softly.
"There’s no problem, it’s just that, I fell in love with Zhou Haiyang. It’s that simple."
Li Yuechan said through clenched teeth.
Long Chen’s expression stiffened: "Are you serious?"
"Serious. You should leave, and don’t come looking for me again. Our fate has ended.
Keep running your medical clinic and be with Zhao Churan."
Li Yuechan turned away, her back facing Long Chen.
"Fine."
Long Chen turned and left, showing no hesitation.
Li Yuechan hurried to the window, wanting to catch a glimpse of Long Chen’s departing figure.
But Long Chen had already disappeared into the night in another direction.
Li Yuechan lay on her bed, her heart wrenching with pain.
How could she have fallen for Zhou Haiyang? She just didn’t want to hurt Long Chen, that was all.
"Yuechan, who were you just talking to?"
Han Min’s voice came from the door.
"Mom, it was... nobody."
Li Yuechan hurriedly wiped her tears.
"Why is the door open?" Han Min walked into Li Yuechan’s room.
Seeing Li Yuechan’s red-rimmed eyes, Han Min’s face turned stern: "My child, did you change your mind again?"
"Long Chen came back."
Li Yuechan said.
Hearing this, Han Min’s expression tightened: "Li Yuechan, I warn you, don’t be indecisive. And remember, although Long Chen is capable, he’s no match for the Zhou Family. If Zhou Haiyang finds out about Long Chen’s existence, whether Long Chen can stay alive is uncertain. You know what you should do, right?"
"Why does fate have to mock me like this? Why?"
Li Yuechan was on the edge of a breakdown.
"You foolish daughter, can’t you think like this: wait until you’ve solidified your position in the Zhou Family and slowly taken power, then you can come back and secretly reconnect with Long Chen. Wouldn’t that make up for the regrets? Also, you..."
"Stop!" Li Yuechan could not help interrupting Han Min: "Mom, what you’re saying is utterly preposterous."
"Anyway, think it over yourself, whether you want Long Chen to stay alive or risk your so-called love. It doesn’t matter what your dad and I say anymore. It’s up to the Zhou Family now. Didn’t you see that even your grandfather can’t do anything about the Zhou Family? Better go to sleep early."
Han Min then left.
Li Yuechan felt hopeless, unsure of what to do.
But one thing was clear, she couldn’t let anything happen to Long Chen.
...
After leaving the Li Family, Long Chen looked somewhat grim.
Li Yuechan said she had already fallen in love with Zhou Haiyang, but he didn’t believe her at all.
The reason must stem from enormous pressure from the Zhou Family.
Pressure so great that it made Li Yuechan fearful and hesitant to resist.
But Long Chen was unafraid.
He even felt somewhat fortunate that he had arrived in time.
Had he come back a month later, he might have truly lost Li Yuechan.
But such an event, Long Chen would never allow to happen.
Unless Li Yuechan truly and willingly wanted to marry Zhou Haiyang, Long Chen would definitely stop it.
Soon after, Long Chen returned to Zhao Churan’s house and quietly slipped into bed.
Zhao Churan turned over, nestled into Long Chen’s arms, and mumbled unclearly, "Why are you back so soon? I thought you were going to spend the night at Yuechan’s place."
"She doesn’t need me there, so I came back. You wouldn’t refuse to take me in, would you?"
Long Chen joked.
"Huh?"
Zhao Churan suddenly woke up and sat up, "What do you mean? Has Yuechan completely drawn a line with you? Long Chen, I think it’s because of force majeure; the Zhou Family must have put enormous pressure on her family. You can’t misunderstand her."
"I plan to let her go."
Long Chen pretended to be serious.
Zhao Churan was startled, "Just... just because she’s marrying Zhou Haiyang, you don’t even want to know the truth?"
"Yes."
"Long Chen, you can’t do this," Zhao Churan was getting anxious, "Yuechan is so pitiful and desperate. During these three toughest years, it was me and her together, talking about you, slowly getting through it. She could have ended up like me, finally waiting for you. But who knew the Zhou Family would suddenly intervene? Yuechan must have been afraid of involving you, which is why she said things you didn’t want to hear. Regardless, I won’t allow you to let her down; you must treat her well, treat us well."
"Don’t worry." Long Chen quickly embraced Zhao Churan, "I was just joking. How could I possibly let her go?"
"You gave me a scare. Don’t make such jokes in the future, or I’ll really get angry."
Zhao Churan glared at Long Chen but then snuggled back into his arms and softly asked, "So what do you plan to do?"
"I plan to disrupt the wedding on the day, and bring the Zhou Family to its knees. It’s that simple and crude,"
Long Chen said with a smile.
"Can we not be so reckless?" Zhao Churan hurriedly said, "The Zhou Family is not just rich and simple. Otherwise, Yuechan wouldn’t feel so desperate. I heard that the Zhou Family in the Imperial City has an immense background, and it’s very frightening."
"Even if the Zhou Family were the son of the Heavenly Emperor, I’d make them pay."
Long Chen said sternly.
"Alright, if you have this confidence, then I’ll help you at all costs. I’ll go back home tomorrow and ask my father to intervene. Although my father isn’t a big shot, he still has some connections. The more people we have, the more strength we’ll have," Zhao Churan said.
"Speaking of your parents, I haven’t visited them in three years; I really should pay a visit."
Long Chen said with a smile.
"Hey, just as I talk about asking my dad to help, you decide to visit them? You tricky little thing, huh."
Zhao Churan pinched Long Chen.
"Don’t misunderstand," Long Chen said. "Visiting your parents isn’t to ask for their help. Also, it’s better not to let them know about Yuechan and you both wanting to marry me. Otherwise, who knows what they might stir up, considering their traditional views of not accepting that Yuechan and you both marry me."
"That’s true. So what do we do?"
Zhao Churan was quite troubled.
"Trust me, I’m confident. And visiting your parents is out of respect, since I’ve eloped with their daughter after all; they should at least know who took her."
Long Chen grinned.
"What do you mean eloped? I clearly brought you into my heart, hmm, so let’s go home and visit tomorrow," Zhao Churan said happily.
It had been a long time since she visited home because every time she went there, she was nagged endlessly.
"Churan, one more thing, my cell phone service is cut off. Help me pay the bill."
"Huh?" Zhao Churan was dumbfounded.
"Cough, I don’t have a single penny."
Long Chen gave a dry laugh.
In the Northern Territory all these years, he really hadn’t used money for anything except not being able to contact his relatives with his cell phone; otherwise, he got whatever he wanted.
Zhao Churan stared at Long Chen for several seconds and, confirming he wasn’t joking, she burst into laughter.
Long Chen scratched his head, "Will you pay it or not?"
"Sure, say ’sweetheart.’"
Zhao Churan blinked.
"Sweetheart."
"Say ’wife’."
"Wife."
"Mm, haha, good boy, just wait a minute."
Zhao Churan turned over, rummaged through the bedside bag, and after a search, handed a card to Long Chen, "Here, there are three million inside. Honey, spend as you wish."
