The Return Of His Ex Wife -
Chapter 30: A Big Mistake
Chapter 30: A Big Mistake
Melissa’s POV.
"The sex was good, dude. But now I need answers." I got dressed quickly as I’d gotten undressed when I first arrived here.
"Baby? Were going another round soon, so take off those bras right now--"
"Donovan! Get a hold of yourself, tell me what I need to know right now!" I demanded. Deep down, I enjoyed the sex but I was mainly here because I needed to know more about Tara. "What do you mean by she’s richer now?"
Donovan shook his head slowly, "tsk tsk tsk. I just remember that you didn’t use to be one of the brightest back in high school. I wasn’t surprised when I heard you dropped out too."
Through gritted teeth, I snapped. "Donovan! Tell me everything I need to know right now or–"
"--Google will tell you everything. Just type her name on your phone and read. Can you still read, or you want me to do that for you as well?"
I rolled my eyes and ignored him. Donovan was shit! I didn’t even know why I still loved him. After a while, I’d gotten more information than I could possibly need. Checking out her Instagram posts and videos, seeing her company page and how much she had grown, I understand Donovan now. Tara was a freaking goddess!
"I need her to pay for all she has done. Do you understand me?" I reminded him.
Donovan sighed. "You keep sounding like you’re speaking English, honey. But I don’t understand. What do you want from me exactly?"
"I want you to make Tara pay for her crimes. How? We need her to become publicly ashamed!"
He frowned slightly. "So how do you propose for this to happen?"
"It’s simple. Kidnap her and find some dudes to drug, rape and record her while it’s happening. I need an embarrassing video of her so I can threaten her and make sure she pays for her crimes!" I felt proud spewing this plan. "All I just have to do is to post her videos if anything ever happens out of the ordinary."
Donovan’s face was real now, like he actually thought about what I’d just said. "It’s possible. But you do know this, if shit goes sideways, you will be spending the rest of your life in jail trying to explain to the judge how you planned to set up our city’s influential business person.
"Then why do you think I’m telling you this??" I shot him a warning glance. "I’m telling you just so you know that nothing must come back pointing at me. You’re smart to realize that!"
"Whatever you say, my love. Now, I’ve been meaning to ask you though. How’s my baby girl doing?"
I hated when he did this! I flared up, showing all of my anger. "You know this isn’t funny. The more you do this the more you put yourself in danger. What do you think will happen to you once Derek ever finds out that I’m still hooking up with you, much less when he hears your nonsense talk that you’re the father of Nina?? What do you think will happen to you then, huh! Will he take your useless words over his dearest wife, me?"
He gave it a thought, then chuckled after a while. "Honey, all he has to do is to go do a DNA fucking test. Now tell me, what do you think will happen when the test says he isn’t the father? What will his family say about you? How do you think you’d be punished?"
I swallowed, fidgeting right on that spot and praying my legs wouldn’t fail me and allow me to trip. Donovan looked proud there that he just put on his clothes and walked out of the room. Once I was done with Tara, I would have to silence Donovan too, no matter how much I loved him.
Tara’s POV
"You’re alright, do you understand me?" I heard Arlo’s voice from over the phone. He said he was already at the hospital and was coming my way.
"It’s alright, I’m fine now. I promise. I’ve told you not to bother coming!" I said again, but something in me knew it was already too late. I felt bad dragging his ass down here at such an early time. I mean, I knew he had his own life going on! I just panicked, but I really was fine now.
"Tara?" His voice sounded again, but this time much more closer and further from the phone. He’d hung up after seeing me.
I looked around until I sighted a tall handsome man with worry written all over his face. At first, I wanted to be a boss lady, the powerful single mother that I was. But then again, seeing Arlo was the most wonderful thing to have happened! I sauntered forward, wrapping myself in his spread arms. It felt warm, like I’d just signed a contract saying ’everything would be alright!’. He smelled nice, just his scent putting me at ease. I didn’t want to let go, but I knew I had to.
"Are you alright? Where’s Richard though?" Arlo asked the moment I pulled free from his embrace. His big hands reached for my face caressing my cheeks warmly. "You’re alright, okay?"
I sniffed in, breaking free from his gaze. "Yea, thank you. Um, Richard he’s...he’s fine. The doctor confirmed that just now, which was why I said not to worry anymore."
"Then why are you here and not in his room?" He shot me a frowning gaze.
I sighed miserably. "I’m such a coward. I’m not fit to be his mother, Arlo."
He pulled me over to a bench so we’d both sit down. Arlo’s gaze never left mine. "Tara, I don’t think anyone is ever a good mom. Or a parent. We’re all shitty, but do you know what saves us all? Love. You love Richard more than anything in this world, and that’s enough. Because you’re willing to do anything to protect him, even at the expense of your own happiness! Richard loves and cherishes you, you know that, Sunflower?"
I did know that. "I just...you’re right." I nodded to that. "You’re right. He needs me, so I’ll be there for him. Ella is the only one there with him." That was when I noticed. He had on a dark shirt and some jeans...jeans?? Arlo had never left his house looking so undressed!
I decided I would try and make up for stressing him like this. "You should get going."
He shot me an arched brow. "You don’t want me to see Richard?"
"No, of course not! I just thought you’d need to hurry back home and prepare for your day or something."
"I’m here now, and that’s all that matters. I’d want to see him before I leave, if that’s okay with you."
I nodded. "Yes, of course." We went to Richard’s room together and as soon as Ella sighted us coming, she heaved a deep breath of relief.
"Thank goodness you’re here! Richard has been hungry and shouting he wants to see you." She exclaimed.
I sat down beside Richard, reaching for a hug. "My baby,"
"I’m really starving, mom." Richard complained.
"Then name your ideal meal, right now and I’ll get it ready for you." Arlo said and it seemed that Richard was just seeing him for the first time because he screeched his name out. "That’s right, buddy. I’m here."
I watched the two of them laughing and chatting loudly like they were pals, and my heart ached. Derek was the one who was supposed to be here.
Time had passed and I was out there with the doctor, talking about Richard’s condition. I smiled hearing his conclusion, just at the same time that Ella came towards my side.
"He’s asleep, by the way. I just needed to stretch my legs, madam Margaret is in there with him." She said.
"The doctor says he can get discharged tonight. Or probably as soon as he wakes up I guess." We sat down together on a bench nearby.
Ella studied my face for a while, "you don’t seem happy as you’re supposed to be. Richard is fine, you got to see Arlo today! I mean, did you see how ordinary he was dressed? He must have rushed down here when you called him! You have that much influence over his life."
"That’s not a good thing, Ella. At least not for him."
Ella frowned. "Okay...I don’t think Arlo’s complaining though. He’s doing this because he wants to, and he can."
"It doesn’t matter! I made a huge mistake, Ella." I confessed."In fact, I feel so embarrassed making this confession."
"Whoa, are you okay? What happened? Honestly, I don’t think Arlo was bothered at all T, but if you want to make it up to him you can--"
"--I called Derek first!" I spat out. "Although he didn’t pick up, but can you just imagine what would have happened if he did? I was so overwhelmed that I would have said everything, and more like maybe I still miss him sometimes. And that I wished he were here with Richard instead of some other guy..." I forced myself to stop and take a look at Ella’s reaction. She did not look happy at all.
"You called Derek?"
