The Reincarnated Assassin is a Genius Swordsman -
Chapter 898:
The golden throne embedded in the platform had been completely uprooted and hurled into the air, but only the Light Wind Division and Iron Division witnessed it.
‘Boom!’
Even when the throne crashed to the ground with a thunderous noise, the officials in the audience chamber couldn’t tear their eyes away from Raon.
“Y-You defeated the Demonblade? Alone?”
Serena, leader of the Light Sword Division, trembled, her jaw slightly dropped in disbelief.
“Even if you’ve reached transcendence… to take down one of the Five Divine Order…”
Latein, the former Blade Division leader, also stammered, too shocked to finish her sentence.
“Shut your mouths! My nephew will explain it himself!”
Balder stepped forward, waving a large hand. But he, too, swallowed dryly as if struggling to accept it.
“Ahem…”Glenn let out a cough and flicked his finger, and the fallen throne returned to its original position. However, the impact had dented it so badly that its original form was already lost.
“Raon. No—Light Wind Division Leader. Can you explain how you defeated the Demonblade?”
He covered half his face with his hand, perhaps to hide his flustered expression, and gestured with his chin.
“As I mentioned, the Demonblade recovered his demonic energy through the Black Tower’s sorcery. But he acquired more than he could control, which disrupted his balance. I thought there was a chance and chose to fight rather than flee.”
Raon nodded and began recounting the battle with the Demonblade.
“…By seizing the opening in his swordsmanship, I was able to strike the final blow.”
As he finished, a deep and heavy silence filled the audience chamber.
“If he had been in peak condition, I wouldn’t have won. It was luck.”
Raon shook his head, just as he had told Trevin before—he hadn’t defeated a complete member of the Five Divine Order.
“Don’t talk nonsense!”
Balder stomped so hard the chamber shook.
“Nephew! A win is a win! Whether his balance was broken or his arms were severed, he was still the leader of the Black Lotus, feared across the continent! No one defeats him with luck!”
He stepped forward and placed a large hand on Raon’s shoulder.
“Hold your head high. From today, you’re a swordsman who has defeated a member of the Five Divine Order!”
Balder nodded with conviction, emphasizing the truth of his words.
“The Palace Lord of the Central Martial Palace is right.”
Glenn, now seated on the battered throne, nodded.
“Even if damaged, the one you defeated was still the Demonblade of the Five Divine Order. Be proud.”
He pointed toward the still-stunned officials with a trembling finger.
“If anyone thinks you had it easy, then they’re free to challenge a fully intact member of the Five Divine Order themselves.”
“Wait, what do you mean…?”
Raon raised his chin slightly, looking at Glenn.
“There are rumors that other members of the Five Divine Order have also made contact with the Five Demons. It seems the Order is beginning to fracture.”
Glenn frowned, saying the situation wasn’t good.
“That’s why what you’ve done is significant. If the Demonblade had fully adapted to that demonic energy and joined their side, it would’ve led to massive casualties.”
He nodded, calling Raon’s feat a great achievement.
“Which other members of the Five Divine Order were approached?”
Raon asked, though he already had a guess.
“The Thespian Emperor and the Ghost Spear.”
Glenn clicked his tongue, saying envoys from the Five Demons had likely approached both.
“I figured.”
The Evil Blade Queen would’ve instantly slain anyone from the Five Demons out of pure hatred, so she likely wasn’t approached at all.
“After that, the Ghost Spear disappeared, and the Thespian Emperor made no moves.”
Glenn bit his lip, saying the Ghost Spear had clearly crossed over.
“So it’s come to that.”
Raon let out a short sigh.
‘I suspected as much when the Thespian Emperor never replied.’
After receiving Raon’s warning, he had offered soulstone information—clearly leaning toward the Five Demons—but in the end, made no choice. Judging from now, it must’ve been indecision within his faction.
“Of course, nothing is confirmed, so let’s leave that matter for another time.”
Glenn waved it off for now.
“Iron Division Leader.”
He placed his hand on the throne’s dented armrest and called Trevin.
“Yes, my lord.”
Trevin stepped forward and bowed.
“I heard you said that if the Light Wind Division is promoted to a Palace, you wish to be placed under it. Is that true?”
“Yes.”
Trevin nodded without hesitation.
“It started with the True Martial Palace Lord’s offer, but now it’s entirely our decision to serve under the Light Wind Division.”
He looked Glenn in the eye, stating that it was their own will.
“That’s good.”
Glenn rose from the throne with a serious gaze.
“Not just for this mission, but for all the achievements the Light Wind Division has accumulated—I will hold a promotion ceremony in one week to elevate the Light Wind Division to Light Wind Palace.”
Standing at the edge of the platform, he formally declared Raon as the Palace Master and the Light Wind Division as the newly promoted Light Wind Palace.
“If anyone has objections, raise your hand.”
Glenn looked down from the platform, but with Karoon and Denier absent, no hands went up this time.
“In fact, it wouldn’t have been strange if they’d been promoted much earlier.”
“Yes. If anything, this is overdue.”
“To become a Palace Master at that age… it still feels like a missed opportunity. We should’ve chosen him during the selection process…”
Balder, Serena, and Latein nodded, saying it was the obvious outcome. The other officials clapped in agreement. The situation had drastically changed compared to when achievements used to draw suspicion.
“Light Wind Division Leader and Iron Division Leader, make the necessary preparations.”
“Yes.”
“Understood!”
Raon and Trevin bowed simultaneously.
“That’s all for today.”
Glenn waved them off.
“My lord.”
Raon stepped forward and addressed him again.
“This is the village chief of Bodri Village. They’ve lost their land and have nowhere to go, but they have strong expertise in dairy farming. I’d like to request we entrust them with the pastureland we recently acquired.”
He bowed in request.
“I am Chaepran, village chief of Bodri.”
Chaepran bowed calmly—unlike the first time he saw Glenn.
“As the Division Leader said, I’m confident in our skills. If given the chance, we would like to live and work for Zieghart.”
Knowing that Glenn was just a grandfather who treasured his grandson, Chaepran felt less intimidated.
“Very well.”
Glenn stared deeply into Chaepran’s eyes and nodded.
“Don’t worry about taxes or anything else for now. Just focus on rebuilding the village.”
He lowered his hand, indicating that Zieghart would handle the rest.
“Th-Thank you!”
Chaepran cried out, saying he’d repay this favor for life, and pressed his forehead to the floor.
“…”
Glenn closed and opened his eyes with indifference and sat down on the broken throne.
“To break through the wall of the Five Divine Order…”
“Insane. That’s all I can say.”
“No one’s going to believe this even if we tell them.”
“Of course not. I heard it straight from him, and I still don’t believe it.”
The officials chatted in disbelief as they exited the audience chamber.
“…”
Once everyone had left, Raon personally closed the door and approached Glenn.
“Is there something else?”
Glenn asked with a hopeful look.
– “Food!”
Wrath jumped and shouted.
– “Tell him to hold a feast! Make a waterfall of ice cream!”
He licked his lips, listing off his demands.
‘Later.’
Raon brushed him aside.
‘There’s something more important first.’
He let out a short sigh and looked up at Glenn.
“There’s one more thing I must tell you.”
“Ahem. Go ahead.”
Glenn nodded, willing to listen.
“Before I killed the Demonblade, he told me something.”
“Something he said before dying?”
“Yes. He offered me a deal…”
Raon explained how the Demonblade revealed the location of the Black Tower.
“Montiro…”
Glenn furrowed his brow at the name.
“It was classified, so I couldn’t say anything earlier.”
“Good. You were right to wait.”
Glenn nodded, now understanding why Raon withheld the report.
“Montiro is on the southern border—a large city and tourist hub. Hard to believe the Black Tower would be there.”
“I thought the same, but the Demonblade swore on his soul. Even if the Black Tower itself isn’t there, there may be a lead.”
Raon clenched his fist, saying he wanted to gather intel at least.
“Yes. That must be done.”
“However, it’s a dangerous and delicate task, so…”
“Don’t worry.”
Glenn pointed at Roenn, who stood below the platform.
“Hohoho, I haven’t seen the sea in a while.”
Roenn placed his hand on his chest, asking to be trusted.
“No arguments there.”
Raon let out a laugh and shook his head.
‘Roenn’s far more suited than I am.’
Roenn, known as the King of Killers, was an assassin with skills even superior to Raon’s past life. He was perfect for covert missions like this.
“Then I’ll leave it to you.”
“Wait.”
Just as Raon bowed and was about to leave, Glenn raised his hand.
“I have one question for you.”
Glenn looked at him with calm, steady eyes.
“Why did you bring the people of Bodri Village? They weren’t going to starve—they could’ve settled elsewhere.”
He tilted his chin, wondering why Raon brought them all the way here.
“Because I want Zieghart to grow stronger.”
Raon placed a hand on the hilt of the Heavenly Drive.
“Not just martial force—people themselves are the strength of a faction. For Zieghart to rise higher, we’ll need more people. The villagers are skilled in dairy farming. Even if it’s a loss now, I believe they’ll become a great asset.”
He bowed after stating the reasoning behind his decision.
“I see…”
A subtle smile curled on Glenn’s lips, his red eyes filled with joy.
“I asked you once before—do you have any interest in becoming the Lord of Zieghart?”
“The Lord…”
Raon brushed the hair from his forehead and smacked his lips.
“To be honest, I had no thoughts about it before. But now, I feel… a little intrigued.”
“Why?”
“Because I want those I care about—and those I brought here—to live happier lives.”
“I see. So that’s how you’ve grown…”
Glenn sighed and closed his eyes as if deep in thought.
“You’ve done well. A separate reward will be issued for this mission. Wait for it.”
“Yes. Then…”
Raon bowed to Glenn and Roenn and exited the audience chamber.
“A king… possessing both the qualities of a conqueror and a wise ruler.”
Glenn slowly raised his gaze and smiled.
“Talents fit for both chaos and peace.”
He nodded, clearly anticipating Raon’s future.
“I agree.”
Roenn chuckled and nodded.
“I don’t even know when he grew so much.”
He smiled softly, remembering Raon as a child.
“For someone like him, I’ll do a proper investigation.”
He rolled his shoulders, saying it had been a while since he moved like this.
“Be careful. If the Black Tower’s base really is in Montiro, even you could be in danger.”
“Of course. I’ll prioritize my safety.”
Roenn nodded and was about to leave—
“Wait.”
Glenn raised his hand.
“M-Montiro is in the south, right?”
“Yes.”
“Well, since you’ll be in disguise anyway…”
He swallowed and lowered his voice.
“Could you… maybe spread a rumor on the way? That Raon defeated the Demonblade…” (T/N: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Gramps, you are too cute. ROFL)
“Hohohohoho!”
This time, Roenn laughed genuinely with joy and nodded.
“Of course. I’ll make sure the whole continent hears it.”
He waved reassuringly and left.
“…”
Glenn slowly stood and looked out the window. Watching the green leaves flutter in the breeze, he gently trembled.
“Rimmer. I guess you really did have the better eye.”
He smiled softly, remembering how Rimmer used to barge into the audience chamber and demand Raon be made Lord.
* * *
“Phew…”
Trevin lowered his sword and exhaled deeply.
“Light Wind Division’s training really is something else. Now I get how you all grew so fast.”
Even he, a Grandmaster, was exhausted.
“Truly.”
“This is way tougher than our training…”
“To think they’ve done this daily…”
The Iron Division swordsmen, who had trained from dawn to dusk with the Light Wind Division, raised their thumbs in admiration.
“It’s already dinner time. Finally, we can rest.”
Trevin sheathed his sword, gazing at the darkening sky, just as Raon stepped down from the platform.
“Follow me. I’ll lead you to where you can eat.”
Raon gestured and left the fifth training hall—but instead of leading them to the mess hall, he took them to Northgaze Mountain.
“Isn’t this Northgaze Mountain? Why are we here…”
Trevin tilted his head, confused.
“After returning from a mission, the Light Wind Division always does field training on Northgaze Mountain. Now that the Iron Division is with us, I’d like you to join.”
Raon smiled gently, suggesting joint training.
“What’s the method?”
“Just endure on that mountain until dawn.”
“Endure? That’s it?”
“Yes. That’s all.”
He handed each swordsman a Nadine Bread.
“That sounds simple.”
“Right? We even have rations. Just eat and relax.”
“Sounds fun. Let’s chat.”
The Iron Division nodded, thinking it’d be easy training.
“Uhh…”
“No, no, not again…”
“It’s here. He’s here. He’s really here…”
Meanwhile, the Light Wind Division looked pale, like they’d stuck their heads into a tiger’s mouth.
“Then let’s begin.”
At Raon’s clap, the Light Wind Division sprinted up the mountain like madmen.
“They’re fast climbers. Let’s go too.”
Trevin gave the order, and the Iron Division followed them up.
“The Light Wind Division really does train differently. Now I see why they’re so strong in real combat.”
Trevin chatted with a few swordsmen as they climbed—when suddenly…
‘Kyaaaak!’
‘Uaaagh!’
Screams echoed from halfway up the mountain—like someone was dying.
“W-What the hell?!”
Trevin flinched and turned.
“Screams…?”
“Isn’t this basically a monster ambush?!”
“Those were death screams!”
Even the Iron Division swordsmen trembled in shock.
“Ehehehe, it’s coming…”
Dorian peeked out from behind a rock with a twisted grin.
“What’s coming?!”
Trevin grabbed his shoulders.
“What else? The filthy demon bastard…”
Dorian raised his glassy eyes.
“Welcome to hell.”
As he uttered that final word, a pair of red eyes pierced through the darkness and descended upon them.
‘Wham!’
(T/N: This is gold. HAHAHAHA)
